Chapter 310 Jase, Clifford and Jeremiah were talking in the living room of the Chavez residence.
Jase took a sip of coffee and looked at Clifford, who was impeccably dressed and had just hosted the visiting Ybaulla delegation as the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Jase asked. âHow did it go?â
Clifford rubbed his forehead and assured Jase, âItâs alright. Iâve dealt with Kyle before, and I can handle the situation.â
At the mention of âKyle,â Jaseâs expression darkened, and he reminded Clifford, âBe cautious. The instruction from above is that our interests in the trade agreement are not to be compromised.â
Clifford nodded and said, âI understand, Dad. Donât worry.â
Jase emphasized. âEnsuring Kyleâs safety is the top priority, particularly if anything should go wrong with the agreement. Kyleâs visit amid political uncertainty in Ybaulla makes the higher authority suspicious of his motives. Ybaulla will take action if anything happens to Kyle in Clusia. Itâs absolute security or nothing.â
Jeremiah crossed his legs and lifted his gaze, exuding an effortless elegance with his neat hair, keen eyes, straight nose and chiseled jawline.
Jeremiah nodded and thought, âHmm, Kyle would be digging his own grave if he were to use us against his enemies.
The meeting concluded and Jeremiah was about to leave, when Aurora entered the living room, surprised to see all three of them. She wondered, âWhat kind of chance has brought them here?
They are usually too busy to have a family gathering.
It must be major political affairs; otherwise, they would have handled it through phone conversations.â
Aurora asked, âJase, have you had dinner yet?â
jase nodded and said, âYes, and youâve gone shopping with Yvette?â
It took Aurora aback a bit to find that Jase Chavez, who was typically preoccupied with state affairs, showed interest in such a trivial matter.
Jeremiah saw Aurora delighted and asked, âHave you been enjoying yourselves?â
Aurora took on a mysterious air and sat on the couch to face them, her chin slightly raised. She found it thrilling to keep a secret from them and boasted with a smirk, âThereâs a prize for guessing what Iâve got.â
As Auroraâs husband, Clifford tried first and asked, âUm, you just won the lottery?â
Aurora snorted and said, âBoring. Whatâs so exciting about that? Try harder.â
âAmazing outfits?â Jeremiah asked, glancing at his watch, as if talking to himself.
Aurora pursed her lips, turning to Jase.
Tapping his cane, Jase asked, âYvette has given you a gift?â
Auroraâs eyes sparkled. She had to admit that shrewdness grew with age, as Jase nailed it halfway with just one guess. Aurora declared, âJase, youâre the epitome of wisdom.â
Then, Aurora clapped her hands. The servants opened the door behind her and en the room, each carrying a large bag.
They lined up and unzipped the bags, and there it was, a bewildering array of couture gowns.
Clifford instantly knew that those were luxuries. He exclaimed, âWhat? Have you bought a store?â
Jeremiah looked at the gowns, impressed by the scene.
Jase, however, sipped his coffee calmly. He knew that Yvette had owned a large fashion brand, which now seemed no longer a secret.
Aurora bragged, âSee, Yvetteâs gifts for me. Arenât they beautiful Clifford frowned, thinking, âEven though Yvette is a famous painter, she could not afford to spend it all like that. This wonât do.â
Meanwhile, Jeremiah just fiddled with his phone indifferently.
Jase pecked at Jeremiah, who was strangely calm about Yvette spending such a fortune.
âThese gifts must have costed Yvette,â Jase remarked with pretended astonishment.
Jeremiah slipped the phone into his pocket and said with a faint smile, âYvetteâs got the money and Iâve got the honey.â
Jase was choked with the irony that the lionhearted men of the Chavez family were all sweetheart husbands at home.
Still, Clifford voiced his concerns, saying, âHoney, Yvette needs the money, and we both know it doesnât grow on trees. Letâs write her a check.â
Aurora could not help laughing at Cliffordâs worried look. He had been so unaware of Yvetteâs wealth that his acts of kindness came across as condescending.
Auroraâs reaction confounded Clifford. He asked, âAre you all right? Youâve been acting weird today.â
âDo you remember Vibe, my favorite clothing brand?â Aurora asked, giving Clifford a hint.
Clifford nodded and said, âOf course. You always say you love their designs, and that each client can order only one gown. But why are you bringing this up now?â
Aurora said, âThen you can guess the brand of the gowns.â
Clifford said casually, âItâs Vibe?â
Clifford was correct, which spoiled Auroraâs fun. âYes,â she admitted.
Clifford had not expected that what he had said randomly turned out to be true. He adjusted his glasses and asked, âEach client can order one couture gown only, but now there are some twenty items. So theyâve given up on that policy?â
So far, Jeremiah had observed the gowns. He smiled, such an understanding smile. Jeremiah thought, âIt must be Yvette, my angel, dazzling us again with one of her secret identities.
Aurora cleared her throat and explained, âNo, their policy remains unchanged. Itâs just that Vibe was founded by Yvette as hobby in her teens.â
Clifford was utterly dumbfounded while Aurora smirked. Clifford turned to Jeremiah and Jase, who were seated on the sofa,. and realized that everyone, except for him, had been aware of the entire situation. Clifford asked in frustration, âDad, do you and Jeremiah already know about this?â
âNot long ago,â Jase said, nodding yes, while Jeremiah added, âJust now.â
Still finding it hard to believe, Clifford asked, âYouâre telling me Yvette owns your favorite fashion brand? Are you serious?â
Aurora pinched Cliffordâs arm and said, âWake up. Of course I mean it. Who else would be so generous?â
âOw!â Clifford yelped and said, âYou win. Iâm just curious. He had never imagined Yvette achieving such success, founding and growing major businesses as a teenager.
Jase stood up, looked around, and concluded, âLife is full of surprises, which isnât surprising.â
