Life in the Fast Lane

Lucas wanted nothing more than to be far away from the club. He could still smell her on him, even after he showered.

“What a slow ass night,” Billy said as they stood outside, checking IDs and tossing drunks to the wayside.

“Yeah, let’s start a brawl and get the fuck outta here,” Lucas said only half-jokingly.

Billy chuckled. “You doing okay?”

Lucas crossed his arms over his chest and frowned. “Why do you ask?”

He knew why. Billy knew why. That stupid anniversary was coming up.

“I’ve got some coping mechanisms up my sleeve.” Lucas grinned mischievously, thinking about Layla grinding on his cock. It only took a moment for him to calm down as he remembered her scent, the sound of her voice.

“Pussy does that to a man.” Billy chuckled, shoving a guy away who was trying to sneak by.

Lucas nodded in agreement. Hell, all he wanted to do was get back to his house and throw a tantrum so Layla would come relax him.

Now that she was barely a mile down the road from his house, there was no way he wouldn’t take advantage of her sponsorship.

“Going to the Post party Friday?”

“Yep.” Lucas grabbed a guy who was about to throw up, pulling him over to a nearby trash can to do his business. “You?”

“I don’t know.” Billy shrugged. “Wife doesn’t wanna go. You got a date?”

“I think I just might.”

Layla was restless.

So much had happened just in the last few weeks that her mind was racing and she was in overdrive.

She still couldn’t wrap her head around the fact that she was sleeping with Lucas and that he made her feel so damn good.

Gretchen was so worried. She’d heard the stories for years of other women, other crazy outbursts, violent tendencies.

Why her? What made her so special that Lucas was using her for his outlet? Why was she doing the same thing?

She wanted to text him to see if he was okay.

No, no, no. That was not her job. If he didn’t check in with her within the hour that he’d promised her he would, she would—~as his sponsor and friend~—text him. He could take care of himself.

Her parents were a little leery about her being his sponsor. If they knew they were sleeping together, Layla would have had to hide her dad’s shotguns.

Her mom had a pretty good idea though.

“Lucas treating you well?” Shelly asked as they cleaned the dishes after dinner.

“Yeah, he’s just a giant teddy bear.” Layla avoided eye contact with her mother.

“That’s good. He’s hotheaded, ya know?” Shelly looked her daughter up and down. “Your shirt?”

Layla blushed. “It is now.”

Shelly grinned, shaking her head. “Be careful, sweetie.”

“I am,” Layla told her as they both quieted down when Ron walked in.

“Let’s watch a movie!” Ron smiled. “It’s good to have you home, honey,” he said, addressing his daughter.

Layla smiled. Neither one of her parents knew the details of exactly what Paul did to her, and she wasn’t ready to tell them.

“It feels good to be home.”

And now, there she was, barely concentrating on her studies and thinking more and more about what Lucas was going to do to her next.

She decided to iron her uniform, do some yoga, meditate, take a nice warm bath, and sure enough, within the hour, Lucas messaged her with a picture of himself and Billy.

“What the heck?” She felt butterflies in her stomach, and that concerned her. No butterflies over Lucas Foster!

“Now I need a drink…”

Layla wasn’t a big drinker—far from it. She was a lush when she did drink, but it was something she wanted now.

Finding her parents asleep, she crept into the kitchen and grabbed a beer. She wasn’t keen on the taste of beer, but it was all they had at the moment.

“Bleh…,” she said, trying to down the beverage as quickly as she could to get a little tipsy and a little tired so she could sleep.

Another message popped up, and it was Lucas asking if she wanted to go to a party on Friday night with her. It would be at one of the Post’s in Dallas, and she graciously accepted.

“We’re not dating, Layla. We just enjoy each other’s company…,” she said as the one beer kicked in and she yawned her way into slumber.

Lucas was elated. He knew she’d say yes, but he was going to show her off. He needed people to see her, to know what he had—this gorgeous, beautiful little hippie who had yet to give up on him.

The next morning, he decided to hit up the gym at Layla’s university before heading out to work. The pipsqueak was there, but it didn’t bother Lucas as much this time. They kept their distance from each other.

After a good hour, he watched Paul rush through the front doors and knew he was giving hell to someone out on the sidewalk. Paul’s arms were flailing, and the person he must have been talking to was easily hidden by his body.

“Layla! You didn’t give me all the rent,” Paul accused. “I fucking need the rest of it.”

“I sent you a picture, Paul. I didn’t take your money or cheat you. It’s all there.”

“You want to make my life difficult.”

“Why don’t you ask Lauren where your money is?”

He grabbed her arm. “Now you’re pinning your faults on her?”

“Let me go, Paul!”

Lucas had stopped the press and was glaring at Paul’s back until the pipsqueak jerked her to the side and he saw who Paul was manhandling.

“Lyle, don’t even fucking stop me!”

Lucas barreled out the doors, pushing Paul to the ground.

“I’d say fight someone your own size, but I’m a beast compared to you!” Lucas bellowed, ready to kill this man before him.

“Lucas…” Layla put her hand on his shoulder. “Don’t hurt him. He’s not worth it.”

“He’s got to stop hurting you, Layla.” Lucas didn’t even turn around. “Or I’ll fucking kill him.”

Lyle stepped outside, having seen the whole thing. “Paul, don’t come back. This is ridiculous.” Lyle was livid.

“Me? What about this fuck?”

“This fuck isn’t assaulting women in front of my establishment,” Lyle scolded. “Get your shit and get out.”

“Did he hurt you?” Lucas turned to Layla, who was shaking her head.

“No, he didn’t.”

Lucas watched as Paul grabbed his bag and left the premises.

“I cannot stand back and watch him hurt you. I won’t fucking do it.” He pulled her into the gym. “Eyes off!” he yelled at the men and a few women watching them.

Gazes were immediately averted.

“Lucas, I have to get to class.”

“I’m walking you.” Lucas grabbed his bag and thermos, still holding onto her arm. “Let’s go.”

They walked out, Layla guiding him as he still held her. It wasn’t a tight hold. It was a protective grip.

“Where to?”

“The medical building.”

“Are you sure you’re okay?”

Layla stopped. She wasn’t okay. “I-I think so.”

Lucas turned to face her, peering down at the little woman before him.

“Didn’t you tell me it’s okay not to be okay?” he whispered softly.

Layla trembled. “I don’t… I am. I am okay.”

“You’re a terrible liar. What did he want?” Lucas asked as they continued walking.

“He thinks I took the money.” Layla shrugged. “I didn’t. I gave all of it to him.”

Lucas growled. He knew that asshole was up to something. “So, when do you get out?”

“Later on today,” she answered as they stood in front of the med building. “I have to work, and then I work at the center tonight.”

Lucas frowned. He had to work too. “I’m going to call up my friend—”

“Lucas, stop.” Layla’s shoulders sagged. “I have to go. Let me know if you need me. I promise I’ll be fine.”

Lucas was dumbfounded. He was going to get her security, and she didn’t want it. Why would she not?

“Stop trying to be strong here, Layla.”

“Stop trying to be strong for me, Lucas.” She stood on her tiptoes and kissed him on the cheek. “Thank you.”

He watched as she walked off into the building, mesmerized by her gentle lips on his flesh. This didn’t stop him from calling Billy and telling him what had happened.

“Yeah, I just need a guy or two for a few weeks,” Lucas said as he walked back to his truck. “I won’t sleep if I know she’s in danger.”

They didn’t see each other much throughout the week.

Lucas and Layla had to work hard to get the time off they needed, and Layla was rarely home. He would try to take his time on the equipment so he could wait for her, but she would pull in right as he was headed out.

She did scold him when his breath smelled like whiskey one night when she got home.

“You weren’t here for me to talk to,” Lucas told her.

“Talk or screw?” Layla mused.

“We talk while we screw.” Lucas winked as he headed out.

Paul didn’t approach her again. She said she’d take the money directly to the manager of the building, but he told her to forget about it. Either he’d found the money or realized he’d been misled—or he was scared of Lucas.

Either way, she was grateful to have him off her back.

Friday night rolled around, and she was excited to go to the party with Lucas. She decided on some tight black jeans, her red halter top, and some black boots.

“I’ll be back later!” she called as Lucas pulled into the driveway.

Layla had her purse draped over her shoulder and a small blazer in her hand as Lucas helped her into the truck.

Lucas’s hair was slicked back, and his blue flannel was tucked into his denims, held up with a big black leather belt with a decorative buckle adorned with the Texas flag.

“You look nice,” she told him as they headed out.

“You look like I’m going to fuck you later.”

Layla rolled her eyes, but she wasn’t complaining, and she certainly wasn’t going to stop him.

They drove awhile, not talking too much. The wind was whipping up outside, and he said a storm might be headed their way. Layla wasn’t a big fan of storms. They always woke her up, and she couldn’t get back to sleep after.

“Maybe you’re just not sleeping next to the right person,” Lucas teased.

“I mean, if you count a scared dog…”

Lucas mentioned getting a mutt for the yard.

“You don’t need a mutt for the yard.” Layla laughed. “You need one for your house—a furry companion.”

“Maybe…”

They pulled into the lot of the Post and were warmly greeted by many people as they exited the truck, Lucas holding her hand as they made conversation with a few of the men and women there.

“Who is this lovely little lady?” Billy looked Layla up and down.

“Layla Potter.” She extended her hand and Billy shook it, introducing her to his wife, Wanda. “So nice to meet both of you.”

“And you!” Wanda winked at Lucas. “So this is Layla?”

Layla looked at Lucas, who was clearly embarrassed that he’d been found out.

“Talking about me?”

“Why wouldn’t I?”

“I thought I’d be your dirty little secret.”

“No, you’re just a dirty girl.” His voice was hot with lust as they continued inside.

“Lucas!”

A woman’s voice called to him as Shawna came rushing over, wrapping her arms around his neck and giving him a big kiss on the cheek.

“Glad you decided to show up. Tim’s around here somewhere—” She stopped when Layla appeared from behind Lucas. “Oh…”

“Hi!” Layla waved, shaking Shawna’s hand. “Are you Shawna?”

“I am.” Shawna nodded.

“I’m Layla!” Layla grinned. “It’s nice to meet you. Lucas says you’re pretty close to him.”

Shawna could hear the tinge of shade in Layla’s voice, and she was living for it. Looking at Lucas and back to Layla, Shawna smiled.

“I’ve heard a few things about you.” Shawna nodded. “Very good things.”

Lucas did blush this time as he recalled calling out Layla’s name when he was plowing into Shawna.

“Lucas, go get some drinks and let us talk!” Shawna shooed him away, and Layla let go of his hand.

Lucas felt empty without her next to him, but he got some drinks and continued his rounds. The party was for an older veteran who was moving to Florida to retire, and the place was packed.

“So, you and Lucas go way back?” Layla asked as she and Shawna stood near the bar.

“I’ve known him for a few years,” Shawna told her. “I know you’ve been around, but you’re sponsoring him now?”

“I am.”

“That’s amazing!” Shawna smiled as Lucas came back with some beers. “I think he’ll do great with you by his side.”

Lucas couldn’t take his eyes off of Layla, even when he was chatting it up with other people.

The place never got rowdy out of respect for what it was used for, but Lucas was on high alert because the men would not stop ogling his little hippie.

“Damn.” Colt came up to him when Lucas and Billy had walked outside. “That’s a nice piece of ass in there. Shit.”

With so many women at the Post that night, Lucas chuckled. “Thinking about picking someone up?”

“That chick with Shawna.” Colt nodded, downing his beer. “I’ve got a fucking hard-on for that girl.”

“She’s not here alone, Colt.”

“Oh?” Colt narrowed his eyes. “Lucas, don’t you fucking tell me she’s your girlfriend.”

“She’s not.”

“Then she’s not taken.” Colt laughed drunkenly. “She will be later tonight though.”

“Back the fuck off, Colt.”

Billy stepped in between them.

“Oh, really? She’s just a piece of ass to you, right?” Colt asked, reminding him of all the other women Lucas had had over the years. “Nothing special.”

Lucas decked him. He stepped to the side of Billy and clocked Colt right square in the jaw until the two men were brawling on the ground.

“Fuck!” Billy called for backup, and it took at least five guys to get Lucas off of Colt.

“Not…for…you!” Lucas spit.

“You know the rules, Lucas!” Tim called out. “You gotta go!”

Colt had been picked up and brushed off, flipping Lucas off as he was ushered inside.

Lucas was just about to get Layla when he saw her standing there, staring at him, Shawna’s arm around her. He grabbed her by the hand and walked her to the truck.

Nothing was said. No apologies. No excuses.

They drove for a while before Lucas pulled off to the side of the road and got out, opening Layla’s door as she unbuckled her belt.

He picked her up and placed her against the bed of the truck. He leaned in and kissed her, unbuttoning her jeans and then his, both of them soon naked from the waist down.

She didn’t ask questions, even when he turned her around, placing her hands on the bed of the truck.

“Hold on tight.”

Lucas didn’t waste time plowing into her from behind. Her cries of ecstasy echoed through the countryside. Thunder rolled in the distance as Lucas pushed himself deeper into her channel.

“Lucas…”

“You’re my outlet, Layla,” he grunted between thrusts. “Let me be yours.”

Her moans were not subtle, nor did she want them to be. She didn’t like his outburst at the Post, and that would need to be addressed.

“I’m better when I’m inside of you. I’m not a monster when we’re fucking.” He held her hips, watching her ass jiggle as he glided in and out of her. “I am calm and at peace when I slip inside of this perfect body of yours.”

“I’m close, Lucas!” She groaned as her pussy bit down on him, her body stiffening before a scream escaped her and the release that had been building covered Lucas’s dick.

Her body limp, Layla held onto the truck as Lucas plunged into her two, three, who knows how many more times before his balls tightened, and then he was hit with a heavy orgasm, filling her up with his seed.

“I can’t live a life where I’m not doing this with you, Layla. I don’t think I can. I can’t go back to the way things were before.”
