"Hyung! You can't do that! That's cheating!" Jungkook protested in annoyance to Taehyung, who sat beside him grinning like an idiot. The two of them were busy playing video games as usual. They were the gamer boys of the group.
The members had nothing to do as they had another day off today, so they decided to just lounge around for the day. Plus, the weather wasn't doing so well outside. It was cloudy outside and drizzling. Today wasn't a good day to go anywhere. It was too bad that they didn't have a BTS Run Episode scheduled to run today.
"No, it's not," Taehyung responded snickering as he continued pressing the buttons on his controller. Jungkook groaned beside him, making him try to do his best to not show any hint of amusement, but it was difficult.
"Hey hyung! Why did you kill me?! We're on the same team!" Jungkook hollered in annoyance as he smacked his hyung on the arm playfully. Taehyung groaned in slight pain and rubbed his arm. He glared at the younger one with a displeased look. Jungkook smirked as he took this chance kill Taehyung's character in the video game. "Oops-, sorry, but not sorry hyung."
"Wha-?! Jungkook!" Taehyung yelled in frustration and disbelief as he sent Jungkook another glare. Jungkook grinned devilishly at that as he nudged his hyung, who nudged him back playfully. The two continued nudging each other while pressing quickly on their game controllers until finally the game ended and they let out exasperated sighs. "Ah... even when I distract you or cheat, you still manage to win."
"Of course hyung. I'm good at everything. They don't call me the Golden Maknae for nothing," Jungkook replied proudly as he snickered and patted his hyung on the shoulder, "Don't be too sad hyung. Maybe one of these days I'll let you win."
"Really?" Taehyung asked in surprise as his eyes went wide.
"Pft, no, I was kidding! I will never let you win," Jungkook answered with a mischievous grin as he reached up and messed up his hyung's hair before standing up. He heard his hyung groan in annoyance making him chuckle. He stretched out his arms and shook them out since they were beginning to cramp up. He wasn't big on losing. He loved winning, which made sense since he was really competitive. If he lost then it would make him upset, but he always did his best not to show it.
"Well, I'm hungry, do we have anything interesting to eat?" Taehyung asked curiously as he stood up as well and started walking to the kitchen. Jungkook followed after him. Taehyung opened up the fridge while Jungkook opened up the pantry. "See anything?"
"Nope, nothing from where I'm standing. How about you?" Jungkook asked as he closed the pantry door. Taehyung shook his head in response, making them both sigh heavily. "I swear, we just went shopping."
"Actually, no we didn't. The last time we went shopping was a week and a half ago," Taehyung corrected with a neutral expression, "Your sense of time is a bit off. Have you been getting enough sleep lately?"
"What?! That's not true!" Jungkook exclaimed angrily as he shook his head vigorously. Taehyung shrugged in response to that. "Aish, whatever, I'm going out to buy some food. You coming or staying?"
"I'll come," Taehyung said as he followed after the younger one who was already heading towards the door. They both slipped on their shoes and grabbed their wallets before heading to the door. "We should probably let the others know where we're going, so that they know." Jungkook nodded as he took his phone out and messaged the others where they were headed before placing his phone back in his pocket. "Or we can do that too I guess..."
With that, the two youngest ones walked out the door. They grabbed a single umbrella along with their raincoats and walked down the street. The rain seemed to be settling down a little bit. They probably didn't really need the umbrella, but still they carried it with them anyways just in case.
When they reached the store, they removed their hoods and wiped their boots off then started walking down the isles of food. They pushed a cart in front of them and tossed in food. The food was mostly stuff that they liked, not too much stuff that the others liked. They could already picture the others complaining about only getting stuff that they liked.
Once they were done, they placed their things next to the check-out counter. They paid for all of their food and carried their bags. Jungkook carried two bags per hand while Taehyung carried two bags in one hand and the umbrella in the other hand.
Together, they walked out of the store, but to their surprise the rain that had previously seemed to get lighter had become heavier during their time in the store. It was a literal downfall. The rain was pounding down onto the ground. People who were in the parking lot were all rushing to get to their cars. The two hungry band mates stood there debating on whether or not they should wait until the rain is done or if they should just do their best to get home.
"Sigh, I don't want to get wet, but I don't want to just stay here," Jungkook murmured with a sigh as he placed his bags down and took his phone out. There were a few messages. He read all of them and they were from his hyungs asking him if he and Taehyung could pick up certain things, all things that he and Taehyung didn't pick up because he didn't see the messages until now. He shrugged thinking that it was too late now to go back inside and buy those things.
"We should go. The others might get worried if we take too long," Taehyung insisted with a wary look as he took a step out into the rain with the umbrella.
"Hyung wait up!" Jungkook yelled as he picked up the bags and rushed to get under the umbrella with his hyung. He let out a sigh of relief that he didn't get too wet or the bags too wet. Carefully, they walked side by side under the umbrella, doing their best to not get any of the bags wet. The cloudy sky became darker as they walked. It was starting to get harder to see what was ahead of them.
"We should get someone to come get us. We still have some ways to go and it's getting harder to see what's ahead of me," Taehyung voiced as he tripped over the curb, "See? Or at least get your phone out and turn on the flashlight." Jungkook nodded as he was about to take his phone out, but stopped when he noticed bright light coming from inside his shirt. He reached in and took out the locket necklace that was hanging around his neck. The scale that he had chosen to put inside the locket glowed bright and purple. "Whoa, where did you get that?"
"I... Namjoon gave me the necklace," Jungkook answered uneasily. He was about to spill the beans about the scale. He hoped that Taehyung wouldn't ask him anything more about it, but his hyung was awed by the purple light since his favourite colour was purple. "Hyung, stop staring at it. It's just a necklace. Now let's get home before the others wonder where we are and before it gets any darker. Plus, I'm hungry."
"Alright alright, but when we get back can I see it?" Taehyung asked with pleading eyes. Jungkook stared at his hyung for a moment, giving it a thought. He was uneasy about letting his hyung fully see it as it contained something precious, but also secret. If his hyung had discovered that there was a scale in the locket then no doubt there would be questions. Sighing, he simply shook his head and walked on off ahead. "Hey Jungkook!" Taehyung rushed after him until he was walking beside him.
"Sorry hyung, but I don't want you to break it," he replied dismissively. Taehyung scoffed at that as he raised an eyebrow.
"I'm not going to break it," Taehyung retorted as he glanced out of the corner of his eye at the younger one's necklace that continued to shine and light their way back to the dorms. As they arrived at the dorms, Jungkook stopped in front of the door. He glanced at the sea while clutching onto the locket. He hadn't seen Y/N for a day and a half now. He knew that he probably would tomorrow, but he wasn't too keen on waiting. "You alright Jungkookie?"
Jungkook glanced at his hyung and bit his lip nervously. He knew better than to spill everything to his hyung, but he also trusted his hyung with his life. He and the others were practically his family, brothers even. He sighed heavily as he looked at his hyung with a serious expression.
"Hyung, can you keep a secret?" He asked softly. Taehyung furrowed his eyebrows in confusion before giving a small nod. Jungkook nodded back as he entered the dorms carrying the bags. Taehyung raised an eyebrow in curiosity.
"So, are you going to tell me?" The older one asked as he followed after the younger one.
"I will. Just not now. I'll tell you later," the younger one murmured as he sent his hyung a knowing smile. His hyung gave a small and slow nod of understanding as they brought the grocery bags into the kitchen. "Hyungs! Groceries are here! Can you come help us put the stuff away?!"
"Alright, we're coming!" Seokjin called out as he rushed out of his room and towards the kitchen. Soon after, Jimin came out of his room and walked to the kitchen to help as well. Hoseok was the last to come out to help.
"Hey guys, Namjoon is busy in his studio. I knocked several times, but he couldn't hear me through his headphones. And Suga is sleeping. I tried to get him up, but he only told me to let him sleep, so I'm letting him sleep," Hoseok said with a small sigh and shrug as he started helping to put the groceries away.
"It's fine. We don't need everyone's help to put the groceries away," Taehyung voiced as he closed the fridge, "So, what are we having and who's cooking?" They all looked at each other, all not too keen on being the one to cook. "Rock, paper, scissors then."
Sighing, they all placed their hands together and started playing 'rock, paper, scissors' game. In the end, it was Jimin and Hoseok who cooked dinner. Seokjin, Taehyung, and Jungkook all sat down on the couch wondering what they could do to pass the time.
Taehyung was curious as to what Jungkook wanted to tell him, but as he glanced at the younger one, he already knew that he was going to have to wait a little bit more before receiving this secret. He felt happy though that Jungkook was entrusting him with this secret. He wondered what the secret could be. He had a feeling though that it had to do with the beautiful necklace that he had been wearing around his neck. The glow from it seemed mystical and unreal.
He glanced over at the younger one's necklace once again. It was still slightly glowing, but not as bright as before. It seemed to only really light up brightly when it was in full view of darkness. Right now, it wasn't dark in the dorms and all of the lights were on, so the light from the locket was dim.
Jungkook noticed his hyung staring at the locket and quickly shoved it down his shirt and out of his hyung's eyesight, which earned a small pout of disappointment from Taehyung, who had been admiring it. Jungkook could tell that his hyung was getting impatient with waiting, but he couldn't say anything with his other hyungs in the room. He wasn't even supposed to be saying anything to any of them, but he knew Taehyung and he knew that he wouldn't stop bugging him about the necklace until finally he would give in.
"You two ok? You've been staring at one another with these nervous glances," Seokjin commented with a questioning look as he had been observing the two younger ones closely. The two younger ones looked at each other one more time then back at Seokjin before nodding their heads slowly. The eldest one raised an eyebrow, not quite believing them, but decided to let it go.
"Hey, one of you go check on Yoongi and Namjoon. The dinner is almost ready," Hoseok insisted as he tapped the three sitting on the couch.
"Alright, I'll go," Jungkook volunteered as he stood up quickly and started heading down the hallway towards Namjoon and Yoongi's rooms. He knocked on Yoongi's door first, but there was no answer. He sighed as he slowly twisted the knob and opened the door a crack. He peeked his head in to see Yoongi fast asleep in his bed. Yoongi was always super scary whenever someone woke him up from his sleep, but Jungkook fought through the fear and crept over to Yoongi's side. "Hyung? It's dinner time. You need to wake up now."
"Ugh, five more minutes...," Yoongi replied sleepily and grumpily as he rolled over, so that his back was facing the younger one, who let out an exasperated sigh.
"Aish, hyung, I'm going to go check on Namjoon hyung and when I come back you need to be standing up or I'm going to start jumping on your bed," he warned carefully before leaving the room in a rush, just in case if Yoongi got mad at him. He then departed to Namjoon's studio and knocked on the door. He could hear his hyung humming something within the room, so he knew that his hyung was in there, but he wasn't sure if his hyung could hear the knocking sounds. "Hyung? I'm coming in, ok?"
Without waiting for a response, he pushed the door open and walked in. Namjoon was bobbing his head slightly to music in his headphones as he was mumbling random lyrics that were too quiet to be completely heard. Jungkook sighed as he walked up to his hyung and tapped on his shoulder. At the feeling of the tap, Namjoon took his headphones off and looked up at Jungkook with a questioning look.
"Oh, Jungkook, how long were you standing there for?" He asked the younger one as he placed his headphones on his desk.
"Not too long. I just wanted to let you know that dinner is going to be ready soon, so take a break and come eat with us," Jungkook urged with a small sigh. Namjoon smiled and nodded back as he stood up and followed the younger one out of his studio. He noticed Jungkook heading to Yoongi's room and raised an eyebrow. "Hyung? Are you awake now?"
All that could be heard was a groan from Yoongi's room. Jungkook frowned at that. It looked like he was going to have to go jump on his hyung's bed to wake him up. He took a deep breath as he raced into the room and started bouncing on Yoongi's bed. Yoongi let out a loud groan of annoyance and tried to push the younger one off of his bed, but the younger one continued to jump up and down. He noticed Namjoon standing there with an amused grin.
"Aish, I'm getting up! Now get off!" Yoongi yelled in frustration as he glared at Jungkook, who quickly jumped off of the bed and zipped out of the room, pushing past Namjoon. "That kid is so annoying sometimes."
"True, but if you had gotten up when he asked you to get up then he probably wouldn't have had to do that. Now, come on, get up and come eat with us," Namjoon ushered as he helped Yoongi out of bed and head down to the kitchen. Once they were all in the kitchen, they got out plates, utensils, and drinks before sitting down at the dining room table and eating the dinner made by Hoseok and Jimin.
Finishing their meals, they all helped with cleaning things up before some heading to their rooms and others staying in the living room. Taehyung glanced at Jungkook, who was putting the last dish away. He nudged the younger one slightly, earning a curious look from the younger one. He gave Jungkook a knowing look, which he received a small nod of realization. Jungkook glanced at Hoseok, Jimin, and Seokjin who were in the living room watching a movie before gesturing with his head to Taehyung to follow him. Taehyung nodded as he followed Jungkook to his bedroom.
Jungkook closed his bedroom and as he did, his necklace started lighting up brightly since he hadn't turned the light on yet. He sat on his bed and waited for his hyung to sit on the bed as well.
"Alright, spill Jungkookie. What's this secret?" Taehyung asked curiously, his eyes showing hints of anticipation.
"Ok, so you remember when we went to the beach?" Jungkook asked with a neutral expression. Taehyung nodded in response. "And you remember how I didn't come swimming with everyone?" Taehyung nodded again. "Instead I walked along the beach for quite some time until I came to a place that was kind of secluded from the open beach area."
"Right and you found something?" Taehyung asked with an uncertain expression. Jungkook nodded slowly.
"More like discovered something," he murmured as he took his necklace out of his shirt and carefully opened the locket. The gleaming scale shined in their eyes and filled the whole room with a glimmering purple light.
"What is that? The shape is... strange," Taehyung commented with a look of wonder and awe.
"It's a scale," Jungkook answered simply as he let his hyung have a closer look, "Don't touch it though, the edges are kind of sharp." Taehyung pulled his hand away after that, not wanting to cut his hand on this magical scale.
"You just found this while strolling on the beach?" He asked with a suspicious look. Jungkook shook his head at that. "So, it's from a fish then right? Did you find it on a dead fish?" Jungkook shook his head again.
"No hyung, listen, I know this is going to sound crazy and it's going to be really hard to believe, but I swear to you that I'm telling you the truth," he insisted with a serious look. Taehyung stared at the younger one with a surprised expression after seeing such a serious look on the younger one's face. "The scale is... it's a scale from the tail... of a... mermaid." Taehyung stared at Jungkook for a long moment, not even blinking or changing expression, his expression was neutral. "Hyung, say something."
"You're kidding, right? Are you telling me that you let me wait all this time just to tell me that you saw something that isn't even real?" He asked with a look of slight annoyance. Jungkook's eyes widened at that. He figured that if any of his hyungs would believe him then it would be Taehyung, but even he didn't believe him.
"What? No! I'm telling the truth!" Jungkook protested as he continued to hold a serious expression, but Taehyung only shook his head and sighed in exasperation.
"Right and so is Loch Ness Monster real too now?" His hyung asked with a raised eyebrow and scowl spread across his lips. Jungkook didn't respond to that as he let his gaze fall, earning another small sigh from his hyung. "You got it from some dead fish that you saw on the beach, just admit it."
Jungkook said nothing for a moment and just stared at his hyung. There was no point in trying to convince Taehyung as he didn't believe the younger one. He sighed as he gave a small nod in response to that. He wanted to argue more that what he was saying was true, but other than the scale, which he could have very well taken it from a dead fish along the beach, he didn't have any other piece of evidence to support his claim.
"Haha, you're right hyung. I was just kidding," he replied quietly as he forced a small sigh at his hyung, who gave him an irritated look.
"Ok, well, I'm heading to my room," Taehyung said as he turned around and started walking to the door. He opened the door, but glanced over his shoulder at the younger one. "Mermaids, pft." He chuckled in amusement as he left the room, leaving Jungkook sitting there on his bed with a somewhat defeated look.
Jungkook let out a sigh as he stood up. He stared at the place where his hyung had left before turning away and walking towards his window. He stood by his window and stared out. He could see the faint colour of the waves crashing against the shore. He clutched the locket in his hand, making his hand glow. As much as he felt upset that his hyung didn't believe him, he figured that it was probably best that his hyung didn't believe him. He had already gone and done something that he said he wouldn't do.
Tomorrow, he would go visit Y/N and hopefully get the answers that he so longed to ask from since the day he had met her on the beach.
