Chapter 13: Night Exploration

His Secret Mermaid ✓3,652 words~19 min read

"I can't believe you got all of this footage," Jimin said in amazement as he and the others were all looking through Jungkook's pictures and videos. Jungkook was currently going through all of it and asking his hyungs for some input on what to put in and what to leave out of the video that he was still working on.

"I know. I think I've really been getting lucky every time I go out," he commented with a cute smile as he clicked on a picture to make it bigger. He smiled when he saw the picture up close. He remembered the day he took it. It was a picture from the very first time he went under the water with Y/N. She had been playing with the dolphins and eventually brought them over to him to swim with as well. He remembered how he felt slightly envious that she was able to swim with dolphins and swim in the beautiful underwater scenery everyday.

It had been two weeks since the very first time she had given him the chance to explore the depths of the ocean. Every single time, she kissed him and every time he had to do his best not to enjoy it or show that he enjoyed it.

Every time when he would leave the beach, Y/N always reminded him of the promise that he made her, so that he wouldn't forget. Still, it was hard, considering the fact that she had kissed him more than 10 times and he had enjoyed every single one of them.

"How did you manage to get all of those dolphins to swim around you?" Taehyung asked in surprise and curiosity.

"I... well, dolphins are friendly creatures. They like being around humans," Jungkook answered with uncertainty. Taehyung seemed to buy that and nodded in understanding. "Honestly, I don't think I really did anything. I think I was just lucky."

"Well, you certainly have been. I think you have enough footage though now. You probably don't need to go to the beach anymore," Namjoon stated with a knowing look. Jungkook tensed up at that. He bit his lip nervously and worriedly. That's right. He knew what would happen if he showed them all the footage that he had. He knew that they had all seen that he had enough footage then they would find it suspicious if he still went to the beach. He could also tell that Namjoon was fishing for something. His hyung had been the most suspicious about him going to the beach so much.

"Yeah, maybe you're right," he responded doing his best not to show any signs of disappointment. It appeared that he would have to go back to going at times when his hyungs would be least suspicious. "You guys should have been there though. The underwater scenery is just beautiful and seeing it in person is so much better."

"Well, next time we'll go with you," Seokjin mentioned with a smile. The younger one gave a small nod at that as he continued to bite his lip nervously. It was getting harder and harder for him to go see Y/N. He had no more reason to go there or no reason to tell his hyungs without letting the truth spill out.

"Oh! Maybe we should do our next BTS Run Episode exploring the ocean," Hoseok suggested with a wide smile. The others all nodded in agreement to that. Jungkook gave a small nod and smile at that, but underneath he was worried. If the hyungs spotted Y/N or if she ended up on a BTS Run Episode then things would not end well for her. He had to prevent that from happening at any cost. When he was certain of when they would film the BTS Run Episode then he would alert her in advance, so that she would remain hidden from the camera.

"Anyways, let's stop talking about this. Hyungs told me that they were going to help me," Jungkook said trying to change the subject. When he said this, the others all nodded in remembrance as they continued to go through all the footage. As he pressed on a video, his eyes widened when he noticed that part of Y/N's tail was in the video.

"Whoa! What's that?!" Yoongi asked as he pointed to the screen at Y/N's tail. The others all looked, but Jungkook quickly exited from the video and placed it in the trash on his computer.

"Oh nothing, it's bad quality anyways," he claimed quickly as he went onto the next video. He gulped nervously as he hoped that his hyungs wouldn't notice his eagerness to not let them see the video. He sighed as he looked through all of the footage, casually getting feedback from his hyungs. Eventually, he managed to pick out all of the pictures and videos that he wanted to use for his video.

"Alright, well, we're going to go start making some dinner now. You should take a break, you've been working all day on this," Seokjin insisted as he patted the younger one's shoulder.

"Ok hyung, hang on a sec," he answered with a nod as he saved everything before closing everything. He followed his hyungs out of his studio before closing the door and locking it. He walked with his hyungs to the kitchen where they started making a huge thing of ramen and meat.

"What else should we make?" Jimin asked in wonder as he looked through the fridge, "We should probably finish these leftovers too." He took out a container that contained leftovers from previous meals.

"We can throw that in with the meat or the ramen," Namjoon stated as he took the leftovers from Jimin's hands and walked over to Seokjin who was busy getting the meat ready. He opened the container and tossed in the meat.

"Hey! Namjoon! The meat isn't even cooked yet!" Seokjin complained as he shot Namjoon a glare.

"Eh, it's fine. It's going to be cooked anyways," Namjoon responded with a shrug as he placed the container in the sink.

"At least wash the container hyung," Taehyung insisted as he shook his head disapproving. Namjoon sighed as he pulled up his sleeves and started running the water. He grabbed the sponge and squirted some dish soap on it before beginning to wash the container.

"Hyung, are we putting this sauce or this sauce?" Jungkook asked as he took out to bottles of different sauces. Seokjin turned to look at him and looked between the bottles before pointing at the one in his left hand. Jungkook nodded as he put the other sauce bottle away then handed the sauce bottle left to his hyung. "Can we do a movie marathon tonight?"

"Yeah! What genre should we do?" Taehyung asked with an excited look.

"Let's do Harry Potter," Namjoon suggested with hopeful eyes.

"No, we've done that one way too many times," Yoongi stated as he shook his head, "Let's do one that we haven't done yet. Like horror."

"Nooooo! I'm going to be up all night if we do that," Hoseok mentioned with a nervous look, "Let's do comedy or something funny."

"What about adventure? Let's do Ironman!" Jungkook exclaimed with a twinkle in his eyes.

"So.... Marvel then?" Namjoon asked with a raised eyebrow. Jungkook nodded in response as the others all glanced at each other before shrugging and giving nods. Jungkook clapped his hands excitedly as he rushed into the living room and started setting up the tv. He set up Disney Plus on the tv and started scrolling through the Marvel movies.

Pretty soon Taehyung, Yoongi, Hoseok, and Namjoon all joined him in the living room. They sat on the couches and watched Jungkook scroll through the Marvel movies until he finally got to Ironman. They all knew how much Jungkook loved Ironman.

"Is the food almost ready?" He asked curiously as he glanced at the others.

"I don't know. Go ask Jin," Yoongi responded with a shrug. The younger one sighed as he stood up and walked into the kitchen.

"Hyungs is the food ready?" He asked as he stomach growled hungrily.

"No, it would go faster though if you and the others helped," Jimin stated with a knowing look. Jungkook sighed as he nodded in understanding. He walked back into the living room and pulled the others up to standing positions. He ignored their complaints and protests and pushed them back into the kitchen to help with the food. Together, they cooked the food and grabbed drinks before heading back into the living room.

"Finally, I'm starving," Taehyung commented as he immediately began to dig into his food. The others didn't say it, but the fact that they were all doing the exact same thing made it clear that they were all starving as well. Jungkook started the movie. They sat and ate while watching the movie. Jungkook was quoting the whole movie as he had seen the movie so many times that he practically knew the whole movie by heart. It made his hyungs laugh.

Even once they were done their dinners, they continued on with the Marvel movie marathon. Jungkook was the only one who hadn't fallen asleep and that was on purpose. He made sure to stay awake, so that he could slip out when the others were all asleep. He smiled when he noticed the others had all fallen asleep. He quietly turned the volume down on the tv, but continued to let the movies run while he got ready to go down to the beach.

He walked out of the building and his eyes widened when he saw how dark it was. He sighed knowing that this was how it was going to have to be from now on whenever he wanted to visit Y/N. He pulled out his necklace to help him guide his way to the beach. This time, since he had enough footage, he didn't take his camera. He only took a towel and his phone that was in a waterproof case.

He walked along the beach until he reached the spot. He smiled when he spotted Y/N there. She looked like she had been sitting there for a long time. He felt bad. He approached her slowly and sat down in the water beside her.

"Hi~," he greeted her with a smile. She glance at him and smiled in relief when she saw him. Unexpectedly, she threw her arms around him and hugged him tightly. He chuckled when he toppled over in the water, making a loud splash. He hugged her back firmly. "Missed me?"

"Of course I did and why are you here so late?! I was literally sitting here all day!" She exclaimed in anger as she glared at him.

"Aw, I'm sorry Y/N. I had to come later. The hyungs would have been suspicious if I came earlier. I had to come when they were all asleep," he explained briefly as he sat up and stopped hugging her. He reached up and stroked her cheek gently, trying to ease her anger with him. She sighed a bit as she stared into his eyes before pouting.

"Hm, ok, so I should assume that you'll be coming around this time now?" She asked with a small look of disappointment. He found it rather cute and couldn't help but smile.

"Yeah, I'll try to come earlier, but I think this is around the time that I'll be coming to visit," he said with a shrug, "Oh, that reminds me, the hyungs and I are going to be recording something here at the beach. I just want to let you know because if we end up going into the water then there will be cameras everywhere and I don't you to end up being caught on film."

"Oh ok, thanks for letting me know, but why are they filming something here? You didn't tell them, did you?" She asked with a suspicious look. He shook his head at that. She sighed in relief at that.

"It's just that I showed them all of the footage I took and they really want to see it in person too," he claimed as he scratched the back of his head nervously.

"I see... well, I guess I'll have to be careful then," she vocalized as she smiled gently, "It's ok though. The underwater scenery changes so much at night time anyway, so you can see so many different things." Jungkook's eyes widened at that in surprise. "I don't think you'll be able to take any footage though cause it's too dark. You'd need a camera that can take pictures in the dark."

"A night vision camera, but your tail literally shines in the dark though, so I wouldn't need a night vision camera," he pointed out with an unsure look.

"Yeah, but even so, the quality still probably wouldn't turn out well," she answered with a shrug as she took his hand and turned towards the ocean, "Still, it's something worth seeing, I promise." Jungkook was hesitant at first. He wasn't too sure about going into the depths of the ocean at night, especially if he couldn't see anything coming from far away, but then again if he stayed near Y/N then he would be able to see if anything was approaching him.

After a few moments of thinking, he nodded, earning a warm smile from her. She soon pressed her lips to his and gave him a gentle kiss. He fought the urge to want to wrap his arms around her waist and deepen the kiss. He breathed a sigh of relief when she pulled away.

"Y/N, you do realize that's getting harder and harder for me to not have some sort of feelings whenever you kiss me?" He asked with a shy expression. She looked at him for a moment before grinning teasingly.

"Haha, sorry. You can always bring a snorkel then I wouldn't have to kiss you," she suggested with a wink. He responded back with a small pout making her stifle a laugh. "Anyways, come on."

He nodded as she pulled him under the water. He stuck close to her while she swam deeper into the water. Slowly, he could see and breathe in the water. He took in his surroundings. He was bewildered and amazed at how much it had changed from how it was during the day. So many neat fishes were swimming about and corals were swaying in the motion of the waves. Y/N's tail was making the area around him easier to see. He could see all the little critters running around on the sand below.

He gestured to her that he wanted to go further down, but she refused, shaking her head vigorously. He gave her a questioning look and she responded with a fearful look and tried to show something with her hands, but he didn't seem to get it. Still, he was curious, so he let go of her hand and started swimming down. He wasn't afraid of not being able to breathe because Y/N had kissed him, so he would be able to breathe underwater for 24 hours.

As he swam down, he could hear Y/N's panicked voice calling out to him to stop, but he was only going to be quick. He swam as fast as he could until he finally reached the bottom. He glanced around, his eyes twinkling with fascination, but it was harder to see since Y/N wasn't as close to him. In fact, he hadn't even noticed that Y/N was farther far from him. He could see the glow of her tail, but he couldn't see much of the area around him. It was then that he began to be fearful, especially when he saw a dark shadow loom over him.

He tried to call out to Y/N, but all that came out were muffles. His heart beat sped up as he tried not to make too much movement, so that whatever large, dark figure that was nearby wouldn't be able to find him. Regardless, he was terrified.

He touched the bottom of the ocean with his feet and crouched down near large corals to hide himself. It wasn't until he noticed that the scale in his necklace was glowing. He breathed a sigh of relief at that. It would help Y/N to locate him and it would help him to see if anything dangerous was coming his way.

He waited, hoping that Y/N would find him and bring him back to the surface. He could hear her calling out his name and asking where he is, but he couldn't respond. He instead tried to make his necklace be in view for her to see, but he immediately put his hand down when he felt something brush his hand quickly. He crouched lower and bit his lip nervously.

He shifted his position and let out muffled shouts when he felt something sharp cut through his leg. He removed his leg from the spot and brought his necklace closer to see what was there. He breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that it was just the coral that he had cut his leg on, but soon felt terror rise inside of him, knowing that the smell of his blood would alert whatever was out there lurking where his location was.

Still, he couldn't stay hidden here either. He would bleed out. Either way, unless Y/N got to him first then he knew that he would die. The real question was, did he want to risk getting eaten, but with the slightest chance that Y/N would see him and bring him to the surface or stay hidden and bleed out but then be eaten anyways? He was debating with himself, but he was soon brought out of his thoughts when he saw a huge figure of a shark racing towards him.

He couldn't move. He was frozen in spot. He didn't know what to do, but all he knew is that his death was seemingly coming to a near. All he could think was how much his hyungs would worry and not know where he is or what happened to him, whether he was alive or not. He worried that he wouldn't get to tell his hyungs everything that he wanted to tell him.

While he was worrying about what to do if he died, he hadn't even noticed that Y/N was nearby until a flash of shine shot by as fast as lightning and she was right in front of him. His eyes were wide in shock, but he soon breathed a huge sigh of relief noticing that the shark had stopped right in front of Y/N, who was blocking it from getting to him.

He watched in confusion as the shark and Y/N seemed to be having some sort of face-off. The shark inched closer, but Y/N managed to make the shark back up. Jungkook reached out to Y/N, who slowly turned to look at him. His eyes widened in shock, disbelief, and slight horror at seeing her face. Scales covered the side of her face, her eyes were glowing a darker shade of purple, and the inside of her mouth had long, sharp teeth sticking out. He had never seen this face before and it scared him because he wondered if this was how Y/N truly looked like.

He noticed though, however, that this new face of hers seemed to scare the shark because it dispersed away quickly. He sighed heavily in relief that the shark was gone, but still glanced at Y/N as she slowly turned back around. He couldn't quite make out her face as he could feel his consciousness slowly evaporating and quickly. He had bled out too much and too fast, he was beginning to fade. The last thing he heard was Y/N telling him to stay awake before he slipped into unconsciousness.

When he woke up, he found himself on the beach, laying on his back. His eyes slowly opened and he sat up, looking around. He didn't see Y/N anywhere in sight, but then recalled what had happened. He let out a small sigh knowing that he was safe and back on the beach, away from hungry sharks.

He peered down at his leg and noticed that the cut was all healed. He smiled knowing that Y/N had healed him, but his mind went back to her face, the scary looking face that she had when she was trying to ward off the shark. Wondering, he thought back to two weeks ago when she had told him that she had lots of secrets, but some she couldn't share with him. He wondered if that face he saw was one of the secrets that she couldn't share with him.

He always viewed mermaids as being sweet and mystical, but perhaps his whole perceptions were wrong. It made him more curious, but would she really share with him why her face changed like that? He already knew the answer to that question. He sighed again, not knowing whether to be completely horrified or be curious. He knew that if he had met her with that face that he would have never visited her again. Seeing that face on her tonight made him begin to wonder if the secrets she held were as scary as the one he witnessed tonight.

He walked back to the dorms without being seen or detected by his hyungs, but he had trouble sleeping. The adrenaline from almost being eaten by a shark and from seeing that scary face on Y/N kept him up all night.
