Chapter 11: Promise Me

Jungkook panted heavily as he wiped at his face with his towel before taking a big gulp of water. He and the other members were taking a short break from their dance practice. They had started from early in the morning. It was now close to lunch time. The boys were dancing hard. They were all dripping with sweat that was rolling down their faces and running through their shirts.

"Good job boys, we're all done for now. Go and have your lunch. We'll meet back down here at 2:00 pm," the dance instructor insisted as he gave a satisfied smile to the boys. The boys all sighed in relief as they walked out of the dance studio and headed up the stairs. They walked down the hallway to their dorm.

"I'm so hungry!" Taehyung whined as he rubbed his belly hungrily and pouted cutely. The others nodded in agreement. "What are we making? I want japchae."

"I'm going to order something because I don't feel like making anything," Seokjin announced as he took out his phone and tapped on the takeout app before looking at the others, "Who else wants to order take out. Tell me now before I order my stuff."

"Hm, can you get me japchae then?" Taehyung asked with pleading eyes. Seokjin nodded in response.

"I'll get something with meat," Namjoon voiced with a shrug.

"Ok, I'll add another lobster then," Seokjin responded with a grin.

"No, I want meat," Namjoon corrected with a hard look at Seokjin, who rolled his eyes, but gave a nod as he put in the orders of Taehyung and Namjoon before looking at the others.

"I'll have some meat too," Yoongi said as he yawned and ruffled his hair, "I want something different than Namjoon though and make sure it's not spicy." Seokjin nodded, putting in the order then glancing at Jimin, Hoseok, and Jungkook.

"Kimchi please!" Hoseok exclaimed with a cheerful smile as he took a sip of his water. They entered their dorm and started heading to their rooms.

"I'll have chicken I think. Oh and some rice too," Jimin mentioned as he peered over Seokjin's phone, who was adding in the order.

"Um... sushi. Wait no pork! With bread or rice," Jungkook added as he corrected himself while thinking. Seokjin nodded as he added in all of the orders before pressing the checkout button.

"Who's paying?" He asked as he looked up and glanced around at the others.

"Everyone touch noses in 3... 2... 1!" Jimin exclaimed as he and the others all went to touch their index fingers on their noses. Yoongi was the last one to touch his nose with his finger making him sigh while the others laughed in amusement.

"Sigh, I always lose at these kinds of things...," he grumbled with a heavy sigh as he rolled his eyes, "Let me grab my wallet first, hang on." He walked off to his room and grabbed his wallet before coming back out. He opened his wallet and took out his card. He paid for the takeout order quickly. "Alright, I'm going to be in my room. Let me know when the food arrives."

With that, Yoongi walked off to his room and laid down on his bed. Namjoon headed to the living room and sat on a chair while opening up a book to read.

"Should we do a live today while we're eating?" Taehyung asked curiously as he plopped down on the couch.

"Yeah, we haven't done a live all together for a bit, so let's do it," Jimin agreed with a smile and a nod before his smile faded, "Somebody's going to have to go get Yoongi though and if he's sleeping then one of us will have to deal with his wrath."

"Not it!" Jungkook called out as he placed his finger on his nose. Quickly, the others started touching their noses until finally Namjoon was last, but that was simply because he was too busy reading to notice. The maknae line, Seokjin, and Hoseok all glanced at Namjoon, who didn't seem to notice their stares. "Rapmon hyung, can you go get Yoongi for the live?"

"Huh? We're doing a live?" Namjoon asked in confusion as he glanced up at the others, not understanding why his name was being said.

"Can you go get Yoongi?" Hoseok asked with pleading eyes. Namjoon sighed at that before giving a nod as he closed his book and placed it to the side before standing up. He walked off down the hallway towards Yoongi's room, leaving the others there waiting. The others all gathered in the living room. Taehyung, Jungkook, and Seokjin squished on the couch while Jimin and Hoseok sat on the ground in front of the large table in the middle.

They could hear a persistent Namjoon telling a groaning Yoongi to come out to the living room and they all were thankful that none of them were there. Just as Yoongi and Namjoon appeared in the living room, there was a knock at the dorm.

"I'll get," Jimin said excitedly as he stood up and walked over to the door. He opened the door and greeted the delivery man with a smile. "Hello, thank you for the food." The delivery man smiled and bowed in response before handing Jimin the bags containing the food then departed. Jimin closed the door and walked back over to the living room with the food. "Alright, let's eat! Who wants to start the live?"

"I'll do it," Jungkook said as he took his phone and got the live ready. He pressed the live button. Soon, so many ARMYs were watching the live and commenting. "Ok, we're live now. Anyways, hi ARMY~!"

"Hi~!" The others all greeted the fans who were watching by smiling and waving before setting up their food on the table. The fans all begin to comment greetings to them along with heart emojis and smiling face emojis or smiling heart eyes emojis.

"We hope you're all doing well. We miss all of you a lot!" Hoseok mentioned as he showed the finger hearts with his index fingers and thumbs. The members all began to dig into their food.

"Mhm, this is so good," Seokjin commented with a blissful smile as he shoved a piece of chicken into his mouth. The others members all smiled as they ate, signalling to the fans that their food was delicious.

"One fan asked how the video edit is going Jungkook," Namjoon stated as he looked through the comments. When he said this, the others all glanced at Jungkook while the younger one choked on his food. He started coughing and looked away from the camera.

"Aish, Jungkook, you ok?" Taehyung asked as he pat the younger one's back to help with the coughing. Once Jungkook had stopped coughing, he gave a small nod then turned back to the camera.

"How does ARMY know about that?" He asked his hyungs as he glanced at them with a suspicious look.

"I mentioned it the last time I went live. I'm sorry Jungkookie if I wasn't supposed to," Jimin apologized with an awkward look. Jungkook looked at Jimin before giving a small nod and then looking back at the camera.

"The video edit is still coming along. I still have some more content that I want to add to it before going into music and sound effects, so pretty much I still have lots to do," Jungkook voiced with a small smile as he took a sip of his banana milk, "But don't worry ARMY. I'm really working hard on it, so I hope that when it comes out on BangtanTV that you will all like it."

He smiled when he read the comments that were flowing in. Some read that they were excited to see the finished video edit while some read that they'll love it. Comments like these always encouraged him to do well.

"Do you want to tell them what the video edit is about? Don't worry, I didn't mention what the video edit was about," Jimin reassured the younger one, who shook his head.

"No, sorry ARMY. I want it to be a surprise," he vocalized as he winked while placed his finger over his mouth and letting out a hushed sound. The other members all chuckled at that.

"Ah Jungkook, such a tease," Hoseok claimed as he sent the younger one a knowing look. Jungkook grinned back at his hyung. The live continued as they ate; the members discussing and telling their fans about their day so far and what they've been up to. As they were drawing near a close to their live, a comment caught their eyes.

"Ooh... an ARMY is asking about your locket necklace Jungkook," Yoongi mentioned as he and the others glanced at Jungkook, who paused midway of bringing food to his mouth. His body tensed up a bit as he placed his utensils back down and glanced down at his necklace that was in plain view.

"I got it from Namjoon hyung," Jungkook began as he clutched the locket in his hand to hide it from view of the fans, "It's not that special."

"Oh sure it is. It glows in the dark," Taehyung recalled as he smiled and raised his eyebrows.

"Hyung...!" Jungkook whispered/yelled under his breath as he sent his hyung a small glare. His hyung shrugged and sent him a confused look. The others also raised their eyebrows and gave Jungkook strange glances. He bit his lip nervously and looked away from his hyungs' deep gazes. "Yeah, it glows in the dark, but other than that, it's not that special."

As he placed his locket necklace back inside of his shirt, he noticed that Taehyung was about to say something. Fearing that his hyung was about to mention the fact that he kept a scale in the locket, he sent his hyung a hard look, making his hyung close his mouth.

"Well, anyways, this is the end of the live since we're all done now. We hope you had fun watching us and seeing us. We love you so much and we'll see you all in our next live," Namjoon finished off the live with a smile as the others joined in on smiling and waving. Then, Jungkook reached over the ended the live and turned off his phone. The others all glanced at Jungkook, suspicious about his sudden, strange outburst at Taehyung, but Jungkook avoided their gazes and stood up.

"Alright, I'm heading down to the beach for a little bit," he announced as he brought his garbage to the disposal then walked down the hallway to his room, leaving the others still sitting in the living room and glancing at each other in confusion.

When he reached his room, he quickly packed up his things. He noticed that the snorkeling gear was still in his bag from last time he went to go visit Y/N, but he never used it. As he packed, he found himself regretting telling Taehyung about his necklace and about the mermaid scale that he kept safe within his locket, but it was too late to take it back now. He just hoped that his hyung would take his hard looks during the live as sign that he shouldn't say anything more.

Once he was done packing, he headed to the door. His hyungs were cleaning stuff up, so he slipped past them and left the dorm. He headed down to the beach and walked along the shore, heading straight to the place where he saw Y/N. He plopped himself down on the sand and set his things to the side of him then waited for Y/N to show up.

He waited for a few moments before he noticed a shimmering shape swimming towards him at a fast pace. His eyes lit up and a smile spread across his face when he recognized the colour of the shimmer. It was Y/N's gorgeous tale.

Soon, a head surfaced from the water, but not fully only half of Y/N's head came out. Her chin remained touching the surface of the water. He smiled wider when he saw her, but then it slowly faded when he saw that her expression held a sense of seriousness. He furrowed his eyebrows in worry at that.

"Y/N... are you ok?" He asked worriedly and curiously as he scooched closer to the water as she was further away from him. She hadn't come as close to the shore as she usually did. She kept a distance between them.

"Were you waiting long?" She asked suddenly. Her expression was serious, but her voice was soft. She avoided his question and stared right at him. He was a little bit surprised by her sudden question, but then shook his head in response. She gave a small nod at that. It was silent. Neither of them said anything, which concerned him.

"Y/N, what's wrong?" He asked again as he scooched forward. He pouted when he noticed her back up a bit, which made him sigh heavily. He tried to scooch forward again, but she backed up again, so he stayed in place. He couldn't understand why Y/N was being so distant with him, but then he recalled yesterday. When he had mentioned that he was lying to his hyungs, so that he would have an excuse to go and visit her, her mood had changed and she looked sad. He didn't have a chance to ask her yesterday because she left before he could. He wondered if she would answer him if he asked.

"Please don't ask about yesterday," she pleaded in a quiet tone as her expression grew strained. Her eyes held a hint of sadness in them. Jungkook sat there wide eyed. He didn't know if Y/N had read his mind or if he had said his thoughts out loud.

"I... did I say something though yesterday that upset you? Because if I did then I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you mad or make you sad," he said with an apologetic look as he scooched forward again until he was in the water, but to his surprise, this time, she didn't back away from him.

"Jungkook... you just... you can't have feelings for me," she murmured as she glanced to the side to avoid his eyes.

"I-I know and I don't... at least not now...," he said trailing off a bit as an unsure expression took over his face. Y/N looked back at him and slowly swam towards him. She stopped swimming when she was right in front of him. Her right hand came up and touched his cheek gently.

"I'm not talking about now Jungkook. I'm talking about later. You can't have feelings for me," she repeated, adding more detail to her words as she caressed his cheek softly, her eyes saddening as she spoke. Jungkook's eyes widened a bit at her words. He wasn't sure what to say.

"Y/N... I...," he started to say, but then trailed off as he couldn't make out any words to say. As he stared into her eyes, he had the urge to ask why, but in a way he already knew that if he asked he probably wouldn't get an answer.

"Promise me Jungkook. Promise me that you won't have those types of feelings for me. If you promise me then we can continue seeing each other," she said her voice ringing with a pleading tone. Jungkook's eyes widened at her request and he stared at her for a moment, letting her words sink into his mind, before giving a small nod. He didn't understand why she was making such a request, but still that was something that he wouldn't get an answer to, so he had no choice but to promise if he wanted to continue seeing her.

"I promise that I won't have those types of feelings for you," he promised with a wary look as his hand came up and he placed it over Y/N's hand that was on his cheek. He stared into her eyes and gave a reassuring smile on his lips. She held his gaze and gave back pained smile before pulling her hand away.

"Also, I know you're curious about me and I know you've probably been itching to ask me lots of questions. There are things that you don't know about me or about my past, but please know that I'm not not telling you these things to be mean. I'm not telling you because you knowing these things could put you in danger and I don't want you to be in danger," she explained, her voice quivering a bit as she looked down, to avoid his beautiful eyes. Jungkook sighed, but nodded in understanding as he reached out and placed his hand gently on top of her head. This surprised her and she lifted her head up a bit to look at him, but he didn't remove his hand.

"Thank you for thinking of my safety Y/N. I didn't realize that you were feeling that way. I won't ask you to reveal anything else to me if you don't want to," he uttered in a gentle tone as he smiled at her with a kind smile, reassuring her that he was sincere with his words. She smiled back at him in response to that. "Can I ask one thing in return though?"

"I don't know if I have anything to give you though," she voice with a worried expression making Jungkook stifle a laugh.

"I just want to see you smile again," he whispered as his voice and expression gentle and warm. Y/N's eyes widened in shock at this before a beaming, bright smile spread across her face. When he saw her smile, Jungkook smiled wider then removed his hand from her head. "That's better. I don't like seeing you gloomy."

"Sorry...," Y/N apologized as she gave an apologetic look to him before smiling again cutely. He giggled a bit at that.

"Oh! By the way, I have something for you to help cheer you up," he announced with a mischievous grin. Y/N's eyes widened a bit and they filled with curiosity and wonder. Jungkook snickered at her reaction as he walked out of the water and sat on the shore, just letting his legs remain in the water. Y/N swam after him and sat beside him on the shore with her tail still remaining in the water.

Once they were both seated, he grabbed his bag and placed it on his lap. He opened it and dug through it before taking out a bag of chocolate balls that was an extra for yesterday when he visited Y/N. He handed her the bag, making her gasp in surprise before a wide smile formed on her lips.

"The sweet, poop balls!" She exclaimed in happiness as she clapped her hands in excitement and took the bag from Jungkook's hands. He raised an eyebrow as a weird expression took over his face. He mouthed the words 'poop balls' in silence, trying to recall if he had called the snack by its actual name yesterday or not.

"No, it's the sweet chocolate balls," he corrected as he couldn't recall if he had said their actual name or not. Y/N shrugged in response as she struggled once again to open the bag. "Do you want me to open the bag again?" She was about to agree to that, but then an idea popped into her head, making her shake her head. She placed the bag of chocolate balls then separated her hands and in one swift motion, she clapped her hands against the bag making it burst open. The bag made a loud sound when it opened and this made Jungkook place his hands over his ears.

"Yay! It worked!" She declared with a proud smile as she reached into the bag and took out a chocolate ball. She licked her lips hungrily and brought the chocolate ball up to her lips before taking a bite. She smiled happily as she let the chocolate and sweet taste fill her mouth.

"Y/N, I could have just opened it for you," Jungkook mentioned as he removed his hands from his ears and watched her with a strange look, "I mean, it would have been a lot less loud than how you did it."

"It's ok. I wanted to open it myself this time," Y/N answered with a small smile and she continued to eat the chocolate balls with a blissful expression on her face. Jungkook shrugged in response to that as he reached over and took a chocolate ball, popping it into his mouth. "Hey! My sweet, poop ball!"

"It's a chocolate ball, not a poop ball and it's technically mine. I just gave it to you so that you wouldn't be gloomy anymore," he pointed out with a cocky grin. Y/N pouted a bit as she reached her hand into the sea water and scooping up some water, she tossed it at Jungkook. "H-Hey Y/N!"

She giggled to his reaction and grinned at him. He smirked as he scooped up some water in both of his hands and splashed it at her. She gasped in shock when the water hit her face and she playfully glare at him while he snickered in response. She huffed as she finished her last chocolate ball and placed the bag to the side before looking at him with narrowed eyes.

"I'm the queen of splash wars, so you better be prepared Jeon Jungkook," she warned with a teasing grin. Jungkook's eyes widened at that and he did his best to prepare himself for the splash war that was about to begin.

Jungkook left around an hour later, so that he could make it back for the dance practice that would be held at 2:00 pm. He didn't take any pictures, but his hyungs didn't know that. His little rendezvous with Y/N boosted his spirits throughout the rest of the day.
