And for your ease, now we are getting to know story from Ehan's pov. Chapters in italic texts are his past. Others chapters are after their marriage but before Mehr left his home.
My life was moving just as I wanted and wished for. I graduated with a flying GPA. After that I took admission in the master's at the same university. Some of my classmates also joined me in the master's classes. One of them was Rahma.
Her eyes kept following me.
She never moved behind. Not even a step until I took a step towards her. She finally succeeded in getting my attention.
She was a nice girl. I never heard anything bad about her nor did I ever saw anything wrong in her. She was different from others and I finally realized that she was the one for me.
Who could love me more than her?
I considered it to be a sin to break someone's heart.
And I didn't want to break her heart so I never behaved harshly with her and finally with over time my heart developed a soft corner for her.
For me this was an entirely different experience. I have never had a female friend before. My boys wished me to get my happy ending. They believed we will get to the end.
I thought my master's was about to over. Hopefully I get a better job than the one I was doing. We will get married and get our happy ending.
It's simple. Isn't?
My degree got completed and I got a better job. I talked to my parents about her. I always found my parents supporting me in everything. My father had different intentions for me but he never once rejected Rahma when I told him that I liked her. He valued my happiness more than anything. He didn't try to force me even for once.
Getting the green signal from my parents I overjoyed thinking about the future, which never existed.
Rahma's parents didn't approve of me.
"What do you mean by not sending my parents at your place?" I asked her seriously.
It was lunch break in the office. I went to see her in a nearby cafe. I was exhausted from work and she made me mad with her words.
"My family won't marry me to you" She broke the news to me.
"Why? What's the matter? They haven't met my parents yet. They haven't seen me. How can they decide it without seeing us?" I asked shockingly.
"I don't know" She muttered.
"They are your parents. How you don't know" I couldn't keep my calm anymore.
"They want me to get married to my khala's son" She spilled the beans.
I looked at her silently. She looked sad and disturbed.
"Tell them that you love me" I said.
"I did. They said it didn't matter. They scolded me so badly" She started crying.
"I will send my parents. They will talk to your parents" I suggested.
"No. My family won't like it. They have strictly forbidden me to send anyone. They asked me to never see you again" She covered her face with her hands.
"And you will listen to them now?" I asked and she said nothing. She chose silence.
"Did you know about your parents interest in your khala's son?" I inquired after being silent for a few minutes.
She looked up at me but said nothing.
"I am asking something" I emphasized on my words.
She nodded her head silently.
"You always knew about that yet you still decided to approach me" I asked her harshly this time.
"Ehan! I-I" She stuttered.
"What? Rahma What? Everyone knows about their family dynamics. I knew about mine..and you still decided to tag me along when you always knew your nineteenth century parents wouldn't marry you off to me" I was angry at what she did to me.
She had nothing to say.
"Why did you start everything when you don't have the courage to make it to the end?"
"I love you Ehan!" She whispered.
"Then what? Are you getting married to me now? If not then it doesn't matter if you love me" I sneered.
"I does matter" She replied.
"I am amazed Rahma. First you kept running behind me for years and when I finally proposed you. You started making excuses. If you knew you wouldn't be able to marry me then why did you even give me hope of a future together" I wanted to yell at her for her wrongdoings.
"I told you I loved you. I couldn't lose you"
"And what now? Wouldn't you lose me now?" I stared at her.
"I know it's-a mess. I will try to convince them" She said.
"You better Rahma. You can't leave me in the middle.
I was shocked at what just happened to me. She gave me hope and then rubbed it on my face.
She knew about her family. Their ego and believe yet she still approached me. For what?
I never wanted a haram relationship with her nor I will ever make any. I wanted to get married to her as simple as that.
It was a common problem in society. First, Men or women, they approach someone and when it's time to get married. They back off making excuses on their families names.
Their families always remained like that. Every person knows what his family is capable off. It should be a crime to lead someone on knowing that you will leave that person in future on your family's name.
If you don't have the ability to convince them just don't make someone else's life miserable.
I believed I made a fool out of myself. I was going straight on the path and I turned away. It was my mistake to trust her. Not everyone is worthy of your trust.
Her parents weren't in the mood to be convinced and they didn't at the end. Like always she kept approaching me even after her parent's refusal.
And when I asked her for court marriage. She didn't agree for that as well. I don't understand what she wanted. Instead of convincing her parents she kept running behind me.
"What do you want Rahma? I can't understand you" I asked calmly.
"I want you Ehan!" She mumbled.
"If you can leave your parents or convince them then get married to me. The choice is yours. What else do you want from me? Your parents said clearly no to my parents. I can't get along with you like that" I explained her.
I chose to distant myself from her. If I had no future with her, I wasn't ready to sacrifice my time and life for her.
I could never understand what these youngsters were doing on the name of love. Like wasting someone's time and emotions isn't a big deal.
If this was love then I won't ever need it.
Ehan isn't a green flag neither I am portraying him like that. He had committed mistakes as we have seen in the present times and he will pay for that.
