Chapter 51 of 52

Chapter 50 (Epilogue)

Mr. CEO & I2,238 words~12 min read

I searched through my letters in the hopes of receiving good news but all I could see was nothing but bills.

I stopped flicking through my letters when I came across a letter that did not resemble the letters I was used to seeing.

Perhaps it is good news, I told myself as I rushed to rip the envelope open.

I read it only to stop midway. I knew exactly what it was without having to read the rest.

It was a letter to inform me that Mr. Morgan was talking legal action against me.

This was the moment I was fearful of. Miranda had reassured me that I would have immunity from any lawsuits.

I reached for my phone in my pocket and called her. 'The number you are trying to call isn't available at the moment'

I tried again each time more desperate to reach her then the last.

'Pick up Miranda it's urgent'

'The number you are trying to call is not available at the moment'

What am I going to do. Miranda isn't picking her calls. I am facing a serious lawsuit and I don't have a job; my bills are piling up. What am I going to do?

I tried calling her again but to no avail. Desperate for a breakthrough I dialed my mother's number.

'Mum..I can't get in contact with Miranda. I have been trying to call her, but I can't reach her'

'Honey slow down. What's wrong? Why are you trying to call her? Can't you wait for her to see your missed calls then call you back' the elderly woman suggested as she tried reasoning with her only child.

'It's urgent mum, I need her help. It isn't something that can wait'

'Susan, what is going on? Are you in trouble? Why are you so upset?

Susan could hear the alarm bells practically going off in her mother's head. She knew it would be unwise to inform her mum of the trouble she has put herself in.

'It's nothing to be worried about mother. This is a matter only Miranda can fix'

'Susan tell me why you need Miranda. It may be an issue not only Miranda can fix. I am your mother I need to know what is happening. You are my only daughter after all'

Susan's mum exclaimed finding herself more and more curious to the point she was considering leaving her housekeeping job earlier than expected to pay a visit to her seemingly distressed daughter.

'I am okay, I called you to ask for a favor'

'What is it dear'

'Do you still have the number of their lawyers?'

'Now Susan what do you need a lawyer for? You are not in trouble, are you?'

'No mother, I need one to finalize a deal' Susan lies knowing that her mother will not let it rest if she was to tell her the truth.

She didn't want the older woman to be stressed at her age. Her mother had been made redundant by Miranda's family because of the sole fact she was getting old.

They were seeking a 'more vibrant, able body' as they put it.

This had taken a massive toll on her mother. She hasn't reached retirement age yet and did not desire to retire so she had no choice but to seek for a new job.

After months of searching and Susan supporting her financially, she finally found another housekeeping job which didn't pay as well but it was better than nothing.

When working as a receptionist in the Morgan enterprise Susan earned enough money to take care of herself and her mother but did not earn nearly enough to support her family members in her mother's home country.

Her mother unfortunately was the sole provider for her family in the Philippines.

Being the breadwinner, she simply could not afford to be out of work as it did not only affect her, but also those who depend on her.

Now that Susan is out of work and facing a lawsuit everything could only get worse.

She forced herself to hold back tears and the urge to confess to what was happening in her life, but she knew better.

She knew it was better for her mother to assume than for her to know the truth and be even more worried.

'I'm afraid I don't have their lawyers' number'

Taking a deep breath in, Susan exclaimed 'okay I will be in touch later. Talk to you soon'

'Alright. You can talk to me if anything is wrong, you know, that right?'

'Yes, I know. Thank you. Talk soon okay'

'Take care of yourself child'

Those were the last words Susan heard before hanging up the phone.

What do I do now. I need to call Maxwell; he should have gotten this letter too.

As the familiar ringing tone was playing, she waited impatiently for Maxwell to pick up on his side.

'Hello' his voice gruntled through the phone. He sounded as if he had just woken up. Susan turned to the clock on her living room wall to see it was seven minutes past one.

'Maxwell, have you gotten a letter from Mr. Morgan today?' Susan enquires cutting straight to the point.

'I don't know I've only woken up'

'Check through your mails. It is urgent' Susan almost yelled through the phone. She could feel her blood boiling within as she recalls how she had ended up in this position.

She believed it was Maxwell's fault that she was exposed for what she was involved in and got fired.

It had to be his fault. Her plan was almost flawless until he had been introduced to Mr. Morgan and Ava.

If he hadn't been as imprudent as he was, she would still have her job, would be able to pay her rent, assist her mother with remittances for her family in the Philippines and would not be facing a lawsuit.

He put her in this mess.

She could hear him shuffling what she presumed was his letters.

'I think this might be it' he uttered with uncertainty in his voice.

'What are you waiting for open it' Susan replies as her level of patience began to wear thin.

He began to read it out loud stumbling on his words which resulted to Susan rolling her eyes.

'Mr. Morgan is suing us' she informs Maxwell as she had heard enough to know it was the same letter she had received.

'Suing us? What do you mean?'

'What part of that do you not understand. He is suing us as in taking us to court. We could potentially be in jail'

'I can't go to jail'

'Neither can I. We need to do something. I've been trying to reach Miranda, but I've not gotten a call back'

'I don't know what to do. We need a lawyer to ask advice first. We don't have time to wait for Miranda to call or come back'

'At least for the time being. We need professional advice. Miranda is going to use her legal team. She needs to come back but, in the meantime, we need to do something'

Susan desperately spoke through the phone. Unbeknownst to her Maxwell did not hear a single word she uttered.

His mind kept wondering back to how he could be potentially looking at several years in prison.

'This is all your fault Susan. You dragged me into this. I should have stayed the struggling artist that I was before now-'

'How is this my fault. If it wasn't for your incompetence, we wouldn't be in this situation in the first place' Susan screamed through the phone her anger matching Maxwell's.

'I would still have my job and an income instead of searching or should I say practically begging for a job that is way below the standard I am used to after working in Morgan enterprise'

'This is your fault. I was helping you and your doomed career. Don't you dare blame me for this'

'Don't act like you were doing this for my own benefit. You would gain just as much or perhaps even more' Maxwell sneered.

'Don't pretend that you did not get a sense of satisfaction seeing Ava suffer. You are a sadist'

'A sadist? How dar-' She was cut off my Maxwell ending the call.

'He hung up on me. Maxwell you have the audacity to blame me for your misfortunes then cut the call while I was talking. You have another thing coming'

Meanwhile in Mr. Morgan's residence. Ava and Aiden were celebrating the success of finalizing the lawsuit.

'A toast to new beginnings and one step closer to justice' Aiden announces as he raised his glass in the air.

'A toast to a new start in life' Ava said as she clinked Aiden glass causing the champagne to spill a little.

'Ava'

'Sorry, I'm so clumsy' Ava apologies as she felt heat rise to her face

Aiden proceeded to grab napkins and wipe the area the champagne had poured.

'What happens after this?' Ava asked curious to know what is to become of the lawsuit.

'We will wait for a court date. It is nothing to worry or bother your mind about. The people that need to be worried are the four involved'

'Okay, do I have to be in court?' Ava asked

'Yes. You will. Unfortunately, you will have to face those wretched people again, but it will all be worth it' he leaned in to kiss Ava's forehead.

'I don't know if I should smile or cry'

'Do both' Aiden suggested

'Ahaha, I can't do both' she held Aiden's hand into hers.

'It is beyond me how human beings can act the way they did. People who wouldn't have crossed or even say as much as a sentence to each would plot and find common interests which was to destroy another'

'That is humans for you. Willing to do anything for the right price be it actual money or not'

'It's still baffling yet I can't help but feel sympathetic. If Susan wasn't driven by jealousy we would have been great friends, if Maxwell wasn't so desperate we would probably get along, if Mr. Douglas wasn't as greedy as he was he would have been such a respected elder in the company to me and as for Miranda well I really don't know'

'She is a hard one to figure out trust me I would know. Spoilt and ever so entitled prefect mixed for a rich girl' Aiden expressed with distaste.

'Sometimes I forget you two were together'

'Sometimes I too forget, but then the tabloids bring it up and all the memories start coming back'

'Did you love her?'

'No. I cared for her as a fellow human being should but love, no. It was a relationship of benefits. Societal one. I can't imagine myself ever being in such a situation again not after I've experienced what this feels like'

'What feels like' Ava enquires having a hunch of what he was implying.

'This between us. It's slowly blooming but it's more than I've ever felt'

'Aiden' Ava gasped out leaning closer to him.

'Sir there is somebody at the door'

One of the security guard announces stopping Aiden and Ava from going any further.

'Who is it?'

'I am unsure sir. They refused to disclose. They asked of you'

Curious to know who seek his presence but did not reveal their identity. Aiden strides towards the direction of the front door. Wondering who could possibly be looking for him.

Once he appeared on the door, he unlocked it without checking the keyhole beforehand.

Once the door was open, he was able to see who stood before him.

Surprised he asked, 'what are you doing here?'

Hello everyone, this is the moment you have all been waiting for. The end of 'Mr. CEO & I' I finally have this book completed and I couldn't be happier. It has taken me so long to get the motivation to finish this book, but we are finally here. Thank you to everyone who has read, voted, commented, shared and followed. I appreciate every single one of you and your contribution to this book. The very FIRST book of the series, yay. I can't even start to express through words how I am feeling right now writing this. Thank you for all the support during the years. I can't waitto share more of the series with you and other books. I know I am not the best writer, but you all have stuck through this book(first draft) and that right there is real support. I have a serious amount of work to do with writing this book especially the first twenty chapters as those are the chapters I need to fix heavily. There won't be much of a story change but the way I deliver the words and chapters will be improved. There will be a second book, but it will be available on patreon. I look forward to seeing you all there too but if you can't there is no pressure. I will be sharing some books here such as 'love is for the books' which can be found on my profile. I look forward to a future in writing. I will keep trying to improve always. Stay blessed and thank you for all your support.
