Chapter 47

Ava's pov

I've never fully given a thought to be a mother. It has always been something I avoided at all cost.

Yesterday when Aiden mentioned it, it got me thinking or should I say overreacting. I have always believed there was nothing I could offer a child.

I had a great childhood up until a certain point. After our tragic loss, I raised my siblings for most of their lives but to have a child would be completely different.

A little helpless being who solely depends on you, unbeknownst to the child if you can provide for their wellbeing or not.

Upon all these conclusions I had made up my mind that it would be best to not bring children into this world.

Thoughts were running wild that I did not realize Aiden had fallen asleep. I reached for the remote and turned off the tv.

I had no interest in the movie we were watching anymore.

Once the television was off, I placed the remote on the coffee table adjacent to myself. Craving comfort I snuggled into Aiden chest more.

I stayed in this position for a while, yet sleep did not come to me. I desired to feel the sensation of falling asleep but to no avail.

There is too much on my mind. If I managed to stop myself from thinking about one thing another would take its place.

It was an endless circle of vicious thoughts. The new one worse than the pervious.

My mind kept wandering back to the incident that occurred which caused me to lose my job.

I also couldn't stop thinking about the fact that Mr. Douglas who I barely knew would do such a thing.

How can someone that is of his caliber abuse his power in such a way.

I wonder what Aiden will do about this. Following his behaviour, he is taking the matter seriously, but I sincerely hope he follows through.

I hope to see the day I get some form of justice. I want every single one of them to get the punishment they deserve.

But I can't lie the most disappointing revelation is Susan. How can someone be so friendly in your face and behind your back they plot such devilish things.

I would have never known it was her if there were no slip ups. What made me consider that she could be behind my misfortunes was when I visited the cafe.

The manger gave me an insight that did not cross my mind beforehand. I was sick to the stomach knowing that there is a strong possibility that Susan tried to poison me.

But even with that possible knowledge I still tried to give her the benefit of the doubt and accept that I may be wrong with my assumptions because there could very much be a better explanation that isn't entirely obvious.

I lifted my head when Aiden started moving around on the couch. He had his eyes closed shut as he changed positions.

Feeling uncomfortable as his body was now in an awkward position. I got up and decided I it would be a good idea to get something to eat as hunger was starting to settle in.

I wrapped my fingers around the fridge door and pulled the fridge open. The lights flicked on to reveal the contents in the American style fridge. The first thing to catch my eye was the cheesecake that I am assuming Aiden bought as it was in a plastic container.

Anticipating the taste of the lemon cheesecake I took it out and placed it gently on the kitchen Island.

With my knife in hand and plate on the table I slowly cut into the cake and placed a slice on the plate. I took a fork from the drawer beside me and cut a small piece off.

Once the cheesecake was in my mouth, I signed savoring the creamy yet sweet taste.

After the first slice had digested, I was hooked and eager for another bite.

I took the fork I held in my head and cut through the cake to take another piece.

'What are you eating?'

I jumped slightly by the sound of Aiden behind me. I turned around to see him standing trying to get a glimpse of what I was eating.

'Cheesecake, I found it in the fridge. Do you want some?'

I took a little piece and put it towards his direction.

'I'm fine. What I do need is water' he said as he walked over to the fridge to retrieve a cold bottle of water.

I watched as he twisted the lid open and swung the bottle towards his mouth.

Upon realizing that I was staring he looked at my direction and gave me a quizzical look.

Feeling flushed I turned back to the cheesecake, I was in the middle of consuming.

As I was about to cut a piece of the once triangle shaped cheesecake Aiden came close to me and wrapped his arms around me.

His body heat radiated off him and instantly made me feel warmer than I once was.

He proceeded to rest his chin on my shoulder. Looking at the slice of cheesecake I was in the middle of eating.

He took the fork from my grasp and cut into the already halved cake. Once he had gotten a piece, he proceeded to feed me.

At first, I refused, I wanted to give him a hard time.

'Open wide' he commanded.

I shook my head 'no' and kept my mouth wide shut. Before I knew what was happening Aiden started tickling me.

I erupted in laughter; I could not for the life of me control my reaction to the tickles.

I attempted to pull his hand away but to no avail. He was after all incredibly strong especially for someone I have never seen step foot in a gym.

'Are you going to open your mouth now?' Aiden asked while he rose an eyebrow at me. I looked into his eyes knowing that he was not giving up anything soon.

Without uttering a word. I opened my mouth.

As he placed the fork full of cheesecake in my mouth, he uttered ' was that so hard?'

I nodded, no and watched as he cut another piece.

Once he was finished feeding me, he placed the empty plate in the dishwasher.

'Aiden' I shrieked as he randomly picked me up and held me in a bridal position.

He laughed as he took strides towards the living area. He sat down on the couch we previously were and placed me on his lap.

'I am going to file a lawsuit against Miranda, Susan, Maxwell and Mr. Douglas' Aiden informed me after a couple minutes of complete silence.

'I have the evidence to back the cases by my private investigator as well as their confessions. I will be calling my lawyer with the information I have so we can proceed' Aiden continued to inform.

'How-'

I was cut off by the sound of my phone ringing. I looked at the screen to see it was an incoming call from Damien.

Curious to know why he was calling I answered and placed it on speakerphone.

'Damien, how are you?' I was the first to speak one the call was answered.

'Ava, I am at the front of your apartment. I've been ringing the bell but I haven't gotten an answer. Are you at home?'

'Ehh..no I'm not at home. I'm at A-'

I turned to Aiden to see him trying to communicate something to me. He was inaudibly moving his lips. In an attempt to read his lips, I said 'I'm away at a family event. I'm not sure when I'll be back'

'Oh okay. I hope everything is alright?' He asked I could hear the concern in his voice as well as what sounded like a hint of disappointment.

'Everything is good, I just needed to get away for a bit and clear my head. I guess somewhat escape everything'

'I understand. I hope you're able to have a bit of peace while you're away'

'Have you by any chance spoken to Aiden? I was supposed to have a short meeting with him today concerning our business, but he wasn't at the office nor is he picking his calls'

'I looked into Aiden's direction briefly. As presumed his face did not give anything thing away.

'He must be busy. You know how he is always knee deep in paperwork' I glanced at Aiden once again 'if I happen to get him on the phone I'll let you know'

'That would be great, thanks'

'Talk to you later' I said to end the call.

'Talk to you soon. Hope you are able to clear your head'

'I'll try, bye now'

I cut the call and placed my phone on the couch. I turned around to Aiden to see he was watching my every move.

'I feel so bad lying to him' I uttered as the feeling of guilt settled in.

'It is for the best at least for now'

Deep down I know Aiden was right. I needed to stay quiet for the time being. Damien may have good intentions, but I still needed to be careful.

I hope this matter is dealt with sooner than later. I crave for my old life back, to be free and not have to look back or be spectacle of everyone and everything.

'Let's play a game' Aiden announces with a smirk on his face.

I agreed feeling excited about doing something instead of wallowing in self-pity I asked, 'what game?'

'I have games in the basement. To be fair I will let you pick which one we play but best believe I'm not letting you win' he winked

I rolled my eyes at his cockiness 'Aiden if you think I need you to let me win then you have another thing coming'
