Aiden's pov
'Mr. Douglas can you explain to me your relationship with the Heather family?' I asked one of the company's director in front of me.
The private detective called earlier informing me of Mr. Douglas and his involvement with the events that have been happening.
'What do you mean sir?' He asked pretending to be in confusion.
'I have been informed of your involvement in the activities of this cooperation and I want you to explain yourself' I stared directly into the irises of the elderly man.
Mr. Douglas has been in this firm long before I became the MD. He and my father were the same age working with each other since they were young.
To say I was shocked about the information that have resurfaced about him would be an understatement.
I never would have thought someone who had such a respected position in this company would dabble in the things that he did.
To think he tried to overshadow me in the meetings to hide the truth.
'Mr. Douglas' I raised my eyebrows at the man who was close to retirement.
He stared back in a daze as if trying to think of what to say under heated pressure.
'I don't think I have to answer to you'
He shot up as if realizing something.
'Yes, you do. I think you are forgetting that I am the managing director of this company and you answer to me'
'No. We all take a vote when conflicts between directors arise. Or have you forgotten the rules?' he challenged as if thinking he had the upper hand.
'To have a meeting so you can brainwash everyone to agree to your fraudulent behaviour' I stated with clear anger in my voice.
'Mr. Douglas you know from the years and I mean years of experience you have that you cannot run from situations like this'
'I suggest you start speaking and speaking soon or things will not look good at all' I added knowing he will probably pull a fast one on me but in the event that, that happens I will let him for now.
As if my prediction was correct, he replied ' I will not speak until my lawyers are involved'
Mr. Douglas opens the office door and scurried out.
Feeling like I've had enough of today I packed my things from the office. It was eleven in the morning, too early that Ava would know something was wrong.
Nether the less I wanted to go home. I packed my things from the office and made my way out ensuring I locked the door behind me.
Mr. Douglas thinks he can get away with this. He honestly believes he's that powerful to withstand my wrath.
He has another thing coming. I refuse to rest knowing that this is occurring, and to think they can get away with what they did.
As I made my way out of the building, I was glad to see that my personal driver was already parked in front of the building.
I had called him a couple of minutes ago and as the good worker that he is he made sure to be here on time.
As we drove off, an idea came to me. I was hungry and hadn't had much to eat this morning.
'Stop by the cafe over there. I want to pick up a few things' I informed my driver. Upon hearing that he proceeded to do as was instructed.
Once the car was safely parked at the side of the road, I exited it and entered the cafe.
As usual with any cafe the warmth was the first thing to welcome me upon entrance followed by the familiar smell of baked goods.
Since it was still morning this was the perfect delicacy to fill a semi empty stomach.
'Hello sir. How may I help you today' a friendly worker asked as I got nearer to the register.
I looked around not sure of what made my mouth water the most. It was hard enough for me to choose what I wanted talk less of what Ava would like.
I proceeded to explain I wanted something both sweet and salty but not combined.
'Okay sir, you will love this' as she pointed at the buns with what looked like icing on top. She then proceeded to pick more baked goods for me claiming I would love them once I try it.
Not one to object and not having a clue what to get I accepted her help.
Once she was done, she said the price which I paid for and made sure to tip for her generous help.
I left the cafe and was immediately immersed with the slightly cold air.
'Did we get what you wanted sir' my driver, Johnson asked once I was in the car.
'Yes, I did' I reached out into the bag full of cookies and buns. I pulled out a random bun from inside the bag and extended my hand towards him.
'Here try this one'
'Sir that won't be necessary' he declined but I had a feeling he was trying to be modest.
'There is more than what Ava and I can finish. You are doing us a favor by eating some' I tried convincing him to at least try one.
'Thank you sir' he said while taking the bun out of my hold.
Silence shortly fell upon us as we drove towards my destination.
I didn't have the appetite to eat at that moment especially not with a cup of coffee at least. I declined on getting coffee as I had a coffee machine at home which I will admit makes amazing coffee.
I stared out the window not looking or dwelling on anything in particular. I stared as my mind wondered to different places at once.
With this newfound information I could finally take this issue further as I now feel I know everything or if not most of what has been happening and who are involved.
The first thing I would need to do is inform Ava of the newfound information that had been revealed to me not too long ago.
It still baffled me as I didn't see it coming. I would have never suspected Mr. Douglas, a man that has worked closely with my father and I to ever be involved in such shady practices.
To think he was so arrogant instead of being up front and confessing to his wrong doings. Instead he just gaslighted me as if I hadn't a clue of what I was bringing light to.
He must be out of his mind to even think he will get away which such foolishness.
As the car pulled up to the front of my mansion, I saw Ava running towards the car. With what looked like glee in her face.
Her smile spread across her face upon seeing the car.
I got out immediately to hug her.
'I'm extremely happy you came early. I was about to lose my marbles' she exclaimed with obvious exhaustion.
I knew it would be hard for her to stay at home all day especially in an environment she has not fully settled into.
'What is this?' she asked looking down at the bag of pastries I held in my grasp.
'It's just a few things I bought from the cafe' I said with a shrug.
I watched as she eyed the bag as if contemplating whether or not to take one.
'Have some' I encouraged moving the bag towards her.
'Yes' she shrieked as if she had just won the lottery.
She reached in and grabbed the first one she could get her hands on.
She as she took a bite into the donut her eyes immediately lit up once her taste buds kicked in.
I laughed at the look on her face. She looked at me confused as to why I was laughing but I brushed it off.
'Let's go inside' I instructed.
'Why are you here so early?' she asked once we had entered the house and she had finished her donut.
'I found some new information. I think it's the last piece of the puzzle. It explains how it was so clear that you needed to be fired'
'Okay go on, what is it'
I sat down on the couch while Ava took a seat beside me.
'Mr. Douglas was the one behind the forgery of the account statement. He forged it in an attempt to make it look like there was money missing and you are the one that took it since all evidence pointed to you'
'Why would he do that? What have I ever done to him to make him do such a vail thing' Ava asked her voice cracking in the process.
She was finding it difficult to take the news and I haven't finished yet.
'It's not so much what you done to him. You see It has come to my attention that Mr. Douglas has close ties with Miranda's family. In fact, Mr. Douglas was working and might very well still be working for Miranda's family'
'From what I gathered Miranda might have persuaded him or should I say threatened him to do what he did'
'Miranda is the master mind behind these attacks. When will she rest'
'Yes, she is. She won't. I won't let her ruin your life. She thinks she has the upper hand, but she has another thing coming' I said with determination in my voice.
'There was no way I am allowing Miranda to continue to bully Ava in this way. Now that the information is complete, or I assume it is I can now take the next steps'
'How can we be sure the money wasn't actually taken?' Ava asked while in deep thought.
'I double checked the accounts. We have more than one copy. I cross checked everything to ensure there was no money taken out'
'If accountants are under the instructions of Mr. Douglas what makes you think they didn't forge all the documents'
'I have my ways of knowing. I can assure you no money was taken but you did bring my attention to the possibility that there may be accountants involved and if so, they must be fired immediately. I will get the private investigator to look into it'
'Okay do that immediately. Would you like anything to eat? I can cook something quickly'
'You will do no such thing. I brought these' I pointed at the buns in front of me 'so that you don't have to make anything this afternoon'
'I enjoy cooking so it's absolutely no hassle'
'We can cook together in the evening. Now come here'
I held my arms out towards her.
'Not until you remove your suit'
'Okay mum' I teased rising from my seated position.
'You'd make a great mother one day' I said as I walked past her.
'I don't think I want to be one' I faintly heard.
