Chapter 32

Aiden point of view

We had finally made it to the closest grocery store from Ava. I parked my car in the parking space and turned off the engine.

I noticed Ava immediately getting out as if she did not want to spend another moment in the car with me.

I got out in a much slower pace than she did and walked over to her side while putting my phone in my pocket.

'Why do you always leave the car so abruptly' I asked out of curiosity than anything else.

She turned around to me as if she had been caught red handed ' I... I just don't want you to open the door for me'

'If it makes you uncomfortable then I won't but it is really no bother to me' I spoke wholeheartedly.

I really don't see why it would be an issue for me to open the door for her. If it makes her uncomfortable and she prefers if I don't, of course I will stop and not continue.

She just smiled and didn't respond. She turned around slowly making her way towards the Shopping Centre.

I walked closely behind not wanting to lose her in the store.

As we walked towards the entrance the automatic doors opened to let us in. Ava picked a basket from the pile that were stacked beside door.

'To the frozen section?' She asked turning around to face me for approval.

I nodded my head yes. I looked around the place and was grateful there wasn't many people in the store.

Most people were busy with their shopping to pay us any mind. It then dawned on me that there was someone following us and taking pictures for the media.

I kept my eyes around to see if there was any suspicious behavior or if there was anyone who looked out of place.

Upon my observation I did not see anyone that stood out to me.

I made it to where Ava stood. She had a cookie dough Ben and Jerry's ice-cream in her hand.

'Which one is your favorite?' She asked looking from the ice in her hand to me.

I smiled knowing what to say 'minter wonderland'

I almost burst out laughing by her reaction. Her face immediately turned to one of disgust, she looked at me as if I had lost my mind.

'All the flavors, you pick that one?' She asked with utter disbelief. I looked at her with nothing but amusement.

'That smirk, you must be trying to annoy me' she looked up at me.

'My favorite flavor is 'cookie dough' i spoke truthfully.

'Same here' her face lit up as she placed the ice cream in the basket.

'That's one thing we have in common' I said

'What's your favorite color?' I asked eager to know what else we had in common.

'Purple... depending on my mood red but I would say purple' she answered picking up another ice-cream which looked to be the Netflix and chill'd flavor.

'What's yours? And don't say black' she exclaimed looking at me dead in the eye.

'Calm down it's not black it's actually yellow'

'Why, yellow' she asked looking at me in quizzically.

'It calms my spirit, It reignites something in me, something peaceful and it's a simple color yet so mighty'

'Wow, that was deep. I didn't know you were so poetic' Ava half laughs.

I rolled my eyes playfully.

'What's your favorite movie?' She asked looking away from me and searching the freezer for more goods.

'I really don't have one, there is so many that I can't pick'

'What's yours?'

'Like you I have many too but I would probably say 'bring it on. It's iconic'

'Never watched it' I answered nonchalantly. I couldn't agree with her because I have never seen it.

'You haven't' she asked in utter dismay.

'Neither of them?' She asked still not wanting to believe me.

'Have you lived? So, you are telling me you don't know what I'm talking about right now?' She exclaimed being a tad bit dramatic.

'No, I didn't know it existed nor did I know there was more than one'

'You need to watch at least one. You are going to tonight'

'It's over an hour long so it shouldn't take long to watch' she continues.

'In that case we are going to need more than just ice-cream'

'I'll pick a few more flavors then we can move on to another isle' she replied as she went into the freezer again to pick another flavor.

I went closer to her and picked up a few flavors we don't currently have in the basket. I took the basket from her as it was starting to get heavy as we placed the tubs in.

'Okay, I think that's all. To the next isle' she said as she took my hand and raced to the chocolate isle.

I almost stumbled from her sudden behavior. I've never seen her this carefree before it's as if she was a kid at a candy store.

As we got to the isle, she immediately picked a bar of chocolate and said 'this one is my favorite, which on is yours?'

'I look Cadbury chocolate bars' I answered. Upon hearing this she immediately started looking for Cadbury chocolate bars.

I looked at her slightly amazed by her behavior. This week off is beneficiary to her because she seems to be able to let her hair down a bit.

'I found it' she announced as she grabbed several bars and placed it in the basket.

'Now for the crisps section' she announced making her way over to the crisps section leaving me behind.

I followed suit not wanting to lose her in the shop as she is in a frantic state right now.

As I got there, she was looking around for her favorite flavor I'm assuming. She finally reached out and pulled two bags.

She placed them in the basket and continued looking at the shelves. I reached out and picked a packet of walkers crisps and placing them in the bag.

I looked around and saw Susan coming down this isle. It looked as if she hadn't seen us yet because she was looking down at her phone perhaps texting someone.

Not knowing what to do, I decided it would be best to draw her attention.

'Susan, I didn't expect to see you here' I spoke trying to get her attention. She looked up from her phone.

'Oh, hey sir. I'm just here to do some shopping'

I looked at my watch and saw that there was still an hour left until the company working hours is through.

'Didn't you go back to the office to finish the rest of today's work?' I asked already knowing she didn't go to the office at all.

'I did but I couldn't stay. I was way too overwhelmed' she said as she struggled to look me in the eye.

At this moment Ava's attention was on the both of us. She didn't speak she just watched as both Susan and I interacted.

Not wanting to hear more untruths I decided to drop it. If she had just been honest, I would not be angry at all. She is probably afraid of my reaction that's why she isn't coming clean with the fact that she didn't go back to the office.

And how do I know this? It's because I asked one of my staff that worked in the same floor and they had informed me that Susan left the same time as I did and never showed up after.

That same person had to do her job for her for the rest of the day.

'We will be taking our leave now' I announced wanting to end this encounter.

'I-' I looked at Ava.

'It was nice seeing you again Susan' I exclaimed while looking from Ava to Susan.

Not wanting to wait for her response I walked on. I could hear Ava saying her goodbyes to Susan.

I made it to the counter and placed the basket on the counter.

The cashier eyes lit up as if she recognized me but thankfully she just smiled and proceeded to scan our items.

She called out the price which I paid for by taping my card.

We made our way out of the store.

'Why did I feel like she wasn't being entirely honest' Ava spoke recalling our encounter with Susan.

'I had a feeling that she didn't go to the office also, but I don't understand why she would not be honest'

'I would not be angry if she had honestly confessed to not going back to her job' I continued.

We had made it through the parking space to where my car was parked. Went to the back of the car opening the boot while Ava made herself comfortable in the passenger seat of the car.

I placed the bag in my hand in the boot and closed it. I got into the car and started the engine.

'Why haven't you learned how to drive yet?' I asked as the question popped into my head.

'I just haven't gotten the hang of it just yet. Actually, Damien was teaching me but his schedule had become too tight'

Come to think of it I haven't been seeing him much lately. He must be extremely busy to not have the time to be at the office as he would usually be.
