Cyrus.
My day has been long as hell, but the last three moons without my sunshine have been even longer.
I am thankful that it has come to an end today. I'm moments away from reuniting with Embry. I'm home.
Embry is my home. She has no idea that I've returned to our Kingdom, and the thought of surprising her fills me with joy. Imagining her expression when she sees me makes my fangs itch. It will feel incredible to hold her in my arms again, where she belongs, and to finally feel whole again.
The chaos outside seems distant and irrelevant as I focus on the impending reunion with Embry. Despite the relentless riots and protests sparked by Claire's absurd declaration, and the media's endless frenzy over every single thing, it has driven me to the brink of insanity. However, none of it concerns me now.
All that matters is that soon I will hold my beloved in my arms, and the world outside can wait.
Just as I savor the thought of reuniting with Embry, my phone rings, snapping me back to the harsh reality I momentarily escaped from.
Ruq's name slides across the screen, and my stress levels spike instantly.
The mere thought of that Ruq hunter mate that I should have just killed hurts my head, reminding me of yet another problem that refuses to fade.
It's just my luck that Embry's brother is mated to the very human I forced Forrest Banks into bonding with, complicating an already tangled web.
If Embry ever discovers the truth about what I did to her brother's mate, there will be hell to pay for. The bond between siblings is sacred, and I shudder to think of the wrath she would unleash upon learning of my betrayal.
It's a terrifying prospect, as I might actually face a fate worse than deathâbecause Embry, in her righteous fury, might just send me to hell herself.
I take a deep breath, attempting to calm the storm raging inside me, and steady my nerves before answering the call. "Didn't I just get rid of you?" I say, trying to keep my voice even despite the irritation bubbling beneath the surface. "What do you want?"
Ruq laughs, clearly unbothered by my annoyance, and responds, "Relax, man, you're moments away from being laid. Damn, my sister really has you whipped." His nonchalant attitude grates on my nerves, but I can't deny the truth in his words. Embry does have a hold on me, one that I willingly submit to, and the thought of being with her again makes everything else seem trivial.
I smirk, letting his teasing roll off me, and reply, "You're absolutely right, Ruq. I'm seconds away from having your pretty little sister moan my name to the top of her lungs."
There's a brief silence on the line before Ruq growsls in response, clearly not amused by my retort. This time, it's my turn to burst out laughing, the tension easing as I revel in getting under his skin. It's cool when he does it. It's a problem when I do it. Fuck him.
I let out a loud, hearty laugh, the sound echoing in the car and lifting the weight off my shoulders, if only for a moment. "Alright, Ruq, enough of the games," I say, still chuckling. "What do you really want?"
He pauses before responding, his tone serious. "Dinner at the Eastern Pack House tomorrow night at 7 p.m. sharp. Don't be lateâI'm introducing Bailey to the family."
The thought of spending an evening with his mate sends a wave of annoyance through me. Bailey always falls apart whenever I'm nearby, her eyes darting around nervously searching for an escape. I'm certain Embry will notice her distress and won't rest until she uncovers the root of it, which spells trouble for me. If Embry starts digging, it won't take her long to connect the dots, and that could unravel everything.
Fuck, I curse under my breath, wishing I had eliminated her when I had the chance. "Fine, I'll be there," I reply begrudgingly, eager to end the call. As I hang up, I take another deep breath, trying to quell the lingering irritation. This is just as the car pulls up to the house where Embry has been staying.
As I step out of the car, my frustration grows as I see the dilapidated mansion looming before me. Its Gothic architecture and overgrown garden give it an eerie, almost haunted vibe, far from the kind of place worthy of Embry's presence.
She could have chosen one of our luxurious homes, but her stubborn insistence on staying within the pack's territory led her here. The faint stench of dogs clings to the air, mingling with the musty scent of decay. I can't help but grimace at the thought of my queen residing in such a place.
My driver steps out first, swiftly scanning the surroundings as my men discreetly fan out to ensure the area is secure. Once they're satisfied, he walks over to my side of the car and opens the door with a respectful nod. I step out, casting a disdainful glance around. I know that every precaution must be taken when dealing with such a delicate matter as a pack of untrained dogs. I really don't want to deal with Embry's fury if I kill one of them for looking at me wrong.
In a blur, I dash towards the mansion, my enhanced speed ensuring that no one catches a glimpse of me. Her intoxicating scent guides me like a beacon, mingling with the damp air and drawing me closer with each breath. As I approach the door, her wildflower aroma grows stronger, and I pause for a moment, captivated by the sound of her voice praying softly, "Please Goddess deliver me from hell and return him to me."
I open the door slowly, careful not to make a sound. As I step inside, I'm momentarily blinded by the sunlight and there she stands, Embry, the very embodiment of sunlight herself.
Her fair skin glows with a radiance that seems kissed by the sun, highlighting her tall, slender frame. Her long lashes flutter gently against her cheeks as she prays. Her thick eyebrows frame her closed eyes perfectly, adding to her enchanting beauty.
Her dark, luxurious hair falls down her back in glossy waves, reaching its full length and adding to her rare, untamed beauty.
The tresses frame her face like a midnight halo, enhancing the ethereal glow emanating from within her.
She stands before me in a long silk beige slip gown that clings to her delicate form, the fabric flowing like liquid gold over her skin. The gown's sheen catches the moonlight with every slight movement, accentuating her graceful silhouette and making her appear like a goddess descended from the heavens.
I watched her in complete awe. Then suddenly her brilliant hazel eyes flutter open, revealing a mesmerizing blend of green and gold. This blend seems to shift like the changing leaves of autumn. They catch the moonlight in such a way that they appear almost luminescent, drawing me in with their depth and warmth.
Her gaze locks onto mine, and in that instant, I feel like I'm peering into a universe filled with secrets and stories untold. This is a place where time stands still and only we exist.
"Cyrus," she says. Her voice is a symphony of longing and relief that resonates deep within my soul, making time flow again. As I close the distance between us and pull her into my arms, it's as if a thousand electric shocks ignite beneath my skin, setting off a blazing inferno that I missed so dearly.
I lift her effortlessly, spinning her around the room. Our laughter mingles with the crackling energy in the air, reminding me of the unparalleled connection we share.
With her nestled in my arms, I softly sing, "You Are My Sunshine, my only sunshine," into her ear, each note carrying the warmth and tenderness I feel for her.
Joyous and melodic laughter fills the room with a peaceful happiness.
"Oh, the ruthless vampire king sings now," she teases playfully, her eyes sparkling with mischief.
"Only to you, my she-wolf queen," I reply, my voice a soft promise as I hold her close, cherishing the bond that ties us irrevocably together. Fuck. I miss her so much.
Embry's hazel eyes glow with a vibrant golden hue that signals her wolf's presence is fully present. "I've missed you so much, my fierce queen," I whisper, as her eyes lock onto mine with an intensity that sends shivers down my spine.
She licks her lips slowly, a predatory gleam in her gaze, before crashing her lips into mine with a fervor that leaves me breathless.
Her lips taste like sweet, forbidden candy, a tantalizing mix of wild berries and honey that intoxicates my senses. In a whirlwind of passion, she pushes me to the floor, her claws shredding my pants. Before I know it, we're lost in a primal dance of desire, where nothing else matters but the wild, unyielding connection we share.
To be quite honest, she begins to fuck the fuck out of me.
Fuck.
*************
As we lie tangled in the sheets, the moonlight casting gentle shadows across the room, I can't help but smile at the warmth of her body next to mine. Our whispered conversation is punctuated by the slow, steady rhythm of our breathing, the intimacy of the night wrapping around us like a comforting blanket. It's moments like these, in the quiet aftermath of passion, that make everything else fade away.
"Oh, my goddess, Luscious had a daughter all this time?"
I reply softly, "Yes, and she's adorable, just as adorable as Jenkins. His baby mama, on the other hand, is a nuisance. She's Nicklaus's and Xander's cousin, and that adds a whole teen-age layer of complexity to the situation."
Embry lifts her head off my chest, her eyes wide with disbelief as she exclaims, "No way!"
I chuckle softly and nod, responding, "Yes, fucking way, and that's not even scratching the surface of their story. Apparently, Beretta Banks, the hunter he's chased his entire life, is also his beloved. She is close friends with that witch bitch that's all over television thanks to Marcellus."
Embry smacks my chest playfully, a soft reprimand in her eyes. "Hey, you need to expand your vocabulary," she says, a teasing yet serious tone in her voice. "We don't call women bitches, no matter how much you dislike them."
Embry flips her long hair over her shoulder, the silken strands catching the moonlight as they cascade down her back.
She places both hands on my chest, resting her head against me with a gentle sigh. "Besides, Esmeralda never did anything to you," she murmurs, her voice softening. "Why so much hostility?"
"Because she's a witch, and Aurora's daughter at that," I reply, my voice firm.
"Witches aren't to be trusted, plain and simple." Embry rolls her eyes, her skepticism clear as she says, "You're so prejudiced."
I shake my head, countering with a wry smile, "No, I'm a realist, and you, my love, are much too gullible."
Embry smacks my chest again, this time with a little more force, her laughter bubbling up as she insists, "I'm not gullible; I'm just a strong believer in not judging a person by their species." Her eyes twinkle mischievously as she adds, "And you should be ashamed of yourself for doing so, Mr. Ettore. You were the same one who used to despise were-people, and now look at you, cuddling with your shewolf queen."
She has a point.
"Well, were-people and witches are different, end of story," I retort, my tone playfully stubborn as I reach for her.
With a swift, gentle motion, I grab her tiny frame and roll her over, positioning
Myself above her. Her laughter echoes in the night, mingling with the rustle of the wind from outside the window. She jokingly protests, "You're impossible, Mr. Ettore!"
"That's Mr. Groveler to you, baby," I reply with a playful grin, leaning down to place gentle pecks all over her body. Her giggles fill the room, and a delightful blush spreads across her cheeks, making her look even more enchanting.
Embry is breathtakingly gorgeous, her skin glowing softly in the moonlight, and her eyes sparkling with warmth and mischief. Our scents mingle in the air, a perfect blend of her sweet, floral scent and my own earthy musk. This creates an intoxicating aroma that feels like heaven to me.
Our bodies move in a slow, harmonious rhythm, each touch and caress echoing our connection. Embry's skin is smooth as silk beneath my fingertips, each curve and contour inviting my adoration. Her laughter, like the sweetest melody, fills the room and resonates within my heart, a testament to our joy. As I finally lay back beside her, I sighed contentedly, my gaze drifting around the dimly lit room.
The room is bathed in the soft glow of moonlight streaming through the open window, casting gentle shadows across the walls. The air is cool and crisp, carrying the faint pine scent from the forest outside. This scent mingles with the warmth of the plush blankets we lay upon. A cozy fire crackles softly in the fireplace, adding comforting warmth to the serene atmosphere. Its gentle light flickering and reflecting in Embry's eyes, and I'm truly at peace.
Her presence alone calms my soul, like waves lapping against the shore. It's as if she carries a serene aura that envelops me, washing away the world's worries. With Embry by my side, even the most turbulent storms seem to quiet down, leaving only her calming love.
Embry turns over to face me, her eyes filled with curiosity and warmth. "Hey, how's Bailey doing?" she asks softly, her voice laced with genuine concern for her brother's mate. On the outside, I smile at her thoughtfulness, knowing how much she cares for her family and those around her.
On the inside, I'm screaming. The fear of her discovering the truth about my past actions with Bailey resurfaces, twisting my stomach in knots. I rarely fear anything, but the thought of hurting Embry in any way terrified me to my core. She is far too kind for me. Her indness and purity are a stark contrast to the shadows within me. I constantly worry that one day she'll see the darkness as a dim to her glowing light.
"She's good, I guess," I reply nonchalantly, trying to maintain a casual tone. "I don't see her that often, though. For some reason, she seems a bit scared of me." I shrug, hoping Embry doesn't read too much into my words, while the truth gnaws at the edges of my conscience.
Embry's angelic laughter fills the room, a light, musical sound that eases some of the tension in my chest. "You scare everybody," she teases, her eyes sparkling with affection. She leans in to give me a soft peck on the lips, her touch as reassuring as her words. "Don't worry," she adds softly, "after she sees you for who you truly are instead of who you're rumored to be, she will love you."
I highly doubt that. However, I force a smile and nod, replying with a simple "Sure," hoping my agreement sounds convincing.
Wanting to steer the conversation away from dangerous waters, I seize the opportunity to change the subject. "Speaking of love, how's our favorite little pup Jenkins doing?" I ask, eager to focus on the adorable bundle of energy we both adore.
Embry's eyes light up at the mention of Jenkins. "He's growing so fast," she exclaims, "And he's been super protective of me ever since I had to..."
She trails off, her voice suddenly faltering, leaving an unspoken heaviness hanging in the air. I notice the way her gaze shifts away, as if she's hiding something.
"Ever since you what?" I press gently, trying to catch her eye. She quickly brushes it off with a dismissive wave, forcing a smile.
"Oh, it's nothing," she replies, but the unease in her voice betrays her, lying through the skin of her teeth.
"Embry," I say, my voice firm and unyielding, making it clear that I'm not playing around this time.
Her eyes widen with panic, a flicker of something wild flashing through them before they shift to molten gold. It's not Embry who speaks next, but her wolf, a fierce presence stepping forward to keep it one hundred.
"Ever since I had to put my paws on the eastern pack's old beta," her wolf confessed, the words tinged with a growl. "A few of them were testing Embry, and he was the worst. I made an example out of him."
The fury ignites within me like a wildfire, consuming my thoughts with a singular, burning desire to confront and end him right then and there. My instincts scream for retribution, yet I restrain myself, not wanting to alarm Embry. "Good girl," I murmur calmly, pressing a soft kiss to her lips, masking the storm within me.
"Do I need to take care of him?" I ask, my voice dropping to a dangerous tone, as the monster inside me edges forward, ready to unleash its wrath.
Embry's eyes flicker from gold to hazel with a mix of alarm and determination. "No, it's handled," she insists, her voice steady but her eyes pleading for me to let it go. Yet, as I nod in silent agreement, my mind is resoluteâI'm going to end him anyway.
Her gaze softens, and she hesitates before adding, "That's another thing I wanted to talk to you about. Tomorrow, the pack will gather for Ruq's arrival, and I need you to stay out of the way."
Amusement dances in my eyes as I repeat her words, "Stay out of the way?"
Her expression shifts quickly, a flustered urgency overtaking her features. "No, it's not like that," she rushes to clarify, her voice earnest. "I just don't want the pack matter to go from bad to worse. All I want is for you to allow me to handle things. The wolves are my people; allow me to lead," she pleads, her determination shining through.
Her earnestness makes her look even more adorable, her eyes wide and sincere, and all I can think about is taking her again, hard and fast, before the sun rises.
After a moment, I let her anxiety build before finally saying, "Your wish is my command, my she-wolf queen," with a playful smirk. "I'll let you handle the werewolves, but if even one dog tries to bite you, I'll put him to sleep, permanently," I add, my tone laced with protective promise.
With a sudden burst of energy, she leaps into my arms, her laughter ringing through the air as she crashes her lips against mine. The kiss is a fierce dance of passion and longing, her lips soft yet demanding, igniting a fire between us that rivals any storm. I lose myself in the intoxicating taste of her, the warmth of her body melding perfectly with mine.
When she finally pulls away, breathless and flushed, she looks into my eyes and murmurs, "Thank you, but you have one more time to call a werewolf a dog, and I swear to the goddess herself, you'll find yourself in the dog house."
In a dramatic gesture, I gag, pretending to cower under her fierce gaze, and reply playfully, "Okay, okay, okay, don't bite me."
Together we burst out laughing.
