ð½ðð¿ð¸ðð¸ ð¼ð ððð ð´ party person, but Lydia is, so all their life, Jolene has had to attend every Martin get-together. Jolene always despised parties, she thought they were boring and far too cramped. Not to mention all the annoying guys. She got to the point where she wanted women to hit on her just to shake things up.
A few guys had already approached Jolene, trying to get her to dance, but around Beacon Hills, she was known as very hard-to-get. Jolene has never had a boyfriend, but that wasn't from guys' lack of trying. She's simply been infatuated with Stiles for as long as she could remember and no one came close. Of course, no one but she and her friends knew that.
Allison was with Scott and Lydia with Jackson. Jolene doesn't really have any other friends besides the two girls and Danny, who wasn't able to make it. So really, Jolene had no one else to hang out with.
Jolene was currently keeping busy by walking through the party with Lydia's drink in hand. She was asked to get it, which she didn't mind, but on her way over, some random guy had suddenly put his hand on her waist. "Hey, Jolene."
Jolene swiftly spun around, smoothly getting him off of her. She did put her hand over Lydia's drink just in case. She didn't want to make a snap judgement about this guy, but unfortunately, this is a reflex for women. The guy was pretty disappointed to see Jolene playing her usual game of hard to get. "Aw, come on. Don't make me chase after you like that."
"Then you stay here and I'll run away." Jolene snarked, trying to make an exit. He grabbed her bicep and pulled her back, but it was a bit too close for comfort.
"Jolene, don't be difficult. Let's just-"
"Hey." The sudden voice of Stiles Stilinski interjected, walking right in between the two of them. This let Jolene get free of this boy's grasp, backing up a little and hiding behind Stiles, who stood tall, demanding, "Leave her alone."
"This has nothing to do with you." The boy stressed, trying to move past Stiles, who put a hand on his chest and pushed him back. "I think it does have something to do with me since it's my girlfriend you're hitting on."
Jolene was just as shocked as this other guy to hear that statement. Her eyes went wide and her cheeks turned as red as the dress she was wearing. Even just thinking about what could be, what she wished for, it made her heart swoon. Even for Stiles, addressing Jolene that way, even if it be fake, made his heart beat a million miles a minute.
"You have a boyfriend?" The guy scoffed, the mere idea of Jolene Dalton, the girl notorious for being desperately wanted, but hard to get, actually having a boyfriend was bordering on unbelievable. Jolene knew that it was in her best interest to play along, "Yup. This is my cute little muffinface."
Jolene immediately wanted to slap herself in the fact. She tried to disguise the fact that she was loathing her very existence for being so strange, but it seemed to do the trick. This guy looked back at Stiles, who hadn't moved, still protecting Jolene from disgusting masculinity. He had seen this guy bugging her, so even though he couldn't feel his legs and he was practically blacked out, Stiles was somehow standing his ground.
The guy scoffed and walked off, not seeing Jolene to be worth the effort. With the pest gone, Stiles finally turned around to face Jolene, questioning, "Muffinface?"
"I panicked." Stiles let out a small laugh as she continued, "Thank you. That guy was being an asshole. I just hate men sometimes, you know? And I hate crows, and people, and parties, and the word party, I think it's spelt weird. I hate boats, I hate the shape of air conditioners, I hate the colour teal-"
"Has anyone ever told you that you talk a lot?" Stiles laughed, finding her anxious rambling to be one of the many adorable things about her.
"I'm sorry. I do that when I'm nervous." Jolene admitted, not realizing she had until Stiles questioned, "You're nervous?"
Jolene immediately hated herself even more for what personal information she was giving out and willingly. Jolene never really is nervous, only when Stiles is in the picture. Of course, she was at her worst when she was actually talking to him. She was quick to correct herself, "It's just like a general anxiety."
Stiles nodded his head. "Alright. Well, I need to talk to you, so could we go somewhere a little more priv-"
"Yes!" Jolene very quickly responded with a little too much excitement. Stiles raised his eyebrows, slightly surprised by her sudden response, which she tried to recover from. "I mean- sorry, I cut you off. But, yeah. Yes, we can speak words to each other in a conversation where...we...just follow me."
Jolene had given up on trying to speak like a normal human being to Stiles, so she turned right around and started to walk, Stiles following behind. Jolene scrunched her nose in shame, internally scolding herself for being so awkward. Stiles hadn't noticed she was being so strange, he thought that's just how she was. He loved it.
Jolene led Stiles to the side of the house where they could talk in private, but still see some of the party. They didn't want too much attention drawn to them, especially Stiles, who needed to discuss Scott and his new-found attributes. "Alright, what did you want to talk about?"
"Scott. I mean, how the hell do you know he's a werewolf?" Stiles questioned, still finding it unsettling that this was a serious discussion he was having with someone. Jolene wasn't too keen on the idea of telling Stiles that she was a siren and read his mind to figure it out, so she was very vague with her response, "I interrogated him."
"What, did you beat it out of him?!" Stiles immediately jumped to the worst conclusion, frantically terrified that this girl was partially insane. His panicked state only made her laugh. "No! Jesus. I figured it out. Besides, how do you know he's a werewolf?"
"I figured it out." Stiles responded the same way. Jolene hummed, showing she understood, but she really didn't. Jolene had figured out that Scott was a werewolf by invading his mind and Stiles was answering in the same manner. She didn't know if he meant exactly what she did.
"Look, Scott was at my house earlier and I was trying to tell him about the full moon, and his bloodlust, and his urge to kill, and everything. And he pushed me against the wall and just about ripped my throat out. He cut the back of my chair and it looked like claw marks. I mean, that could've been my neck." Stiles explained.
"Well, it's the full moon, he's going through the shift. He's gonna be crazy and murdery." Jolene spoke as a matter of fact.
"I don't like that you said that sentence so calmly."
"I've said worse." Jolene brushed off. Stiles did furrow his eyebrows since he was confused by what that was supposed to entail. Jolene, whose mouth seemed to move faster than her brain, realizing what she had said and elaborated, "I meant that I watch a lot of horror movies and I make Lydia listen to me talk about them."
Stiles let out a breath, relieved, "I actually don't think I've watched any horror movie ever. Don't think I'd really like them."
"I kind of hate you now." Stiles let out a laugh, not expecting that answer, but finding it amusing. Both of these teenagers were so incredibly nervous around the other, constantly scolding themselves for stuttering over their words or blurting something out that they didn't intend to, but as quickly as their nerves worsened, they felt comfortable. Jolene found that talking with Stiles was a calculated game to play, like she had to completely modify her personality so that he would like her, but with Stiles, he found it so natural. Talking to her was calming.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean that." Jolene matched his laugh. Stiles smiled down at her, her presence being heartwarming. Jolene's heart did skip a beat at his crooked and perfect smile. She had to actually look away and clear her throat, bringing them back to the important subject at hand, "So, um, where is Scott anyway?"
"I don't know. Probably with Allison." Stiles assumed.
Jolene peaked around the corner of the house where she could see Allison talking to Lydia, but no Scott McCall. "Nope. Not with Allison."
Stiles leaned forward a bit to see Allison, but he came closer to Jolene, who practically couldn't breathe. He hummed and stood up straight again. "We should probably go find him. Come on."
Stiles held out his hand and started walking. It was a natural instinct for Jolene to take his hand since they had to navigate through the party. Jolene held the drink close to her chest as her other hand held Stiles', which she noticed were warm. Vice versa, but Jolene's were cold. Either way, it was comforting.
Stiles and Jolene moved through the backyard and through the house, looking everywhere, but they couldn't find Scott anywhere. When the two teenagers got out to the front door, there was basically no one out there except Allison, who they saw get into a car with Derek Hale. Stiles didn't really comprehend that that was bad news, but Jolene knew what Derek was capable of. Unfortunately, Scott may have been more of a danger.
She and Stiles wasted no time in rushing to the McCall house. They were lucky that Stiles had brought his Jeep. The two of them needed to get to Scott as quickly as possible and make sure that he wasn't going to lose his mind or start murdering people left and right because he couldn't control himself.
When they arrived, Scott's mother, Melissa, had let the two teenagers into the house. She was very shocked that Jolene Dalton was in her house since, over the years, she had heard her name many times from Stiles.
Once the two got upstairs, they saw that Scott's door was closed. Stiles tried opening it, but not shockingly, it didn't budge. Stiles knocked on the door repeatedly before asking, "Scott?"
There was no answer. Plus, Jolene is impatient and irritated by werewolves. She was the one to knock this time and pester, "Scott, I'll break down this door if I have to. I've seen the Shining, I know how to do it."
"Go away." Scott spoke through the door in a weak voice, clearly struggling.
"No, Scott. We're not leaving, we can help you." Stiles stressed, but Scott's worries were elsewhere. "No, you have to find Allison."
"What? Scott, she's fine, okay? We saw her get a ride from the party. She's totally fine." Stiles reassured his friend, but Scott had come to a conclusion that neither were aware of yet. "No, I think I know who it is -- it's Derek. Derek Hale is the werewolf, he's the one that bit me, he's the one that killed the girl in the woods."
Jolene was not shocked in the slightest. The Hale family is the reason she despises werewolves so much, Derek being the worst one. Jolene thought Derek's ego was far bigger than his stature, so if he was starting a pack of werewolves, it wouldn't be out of left field for him to pick more obedient, younger people -- people who would listen to him.
"Scott...Derek's the one who drove Allison from the party..."
Jolene was quick to try and soften that blow. "But it's fine, Scott! She's either dead or a werewolf, it could be worse. She could be a red head."
Absolutely nothing could be heard from Scott's side of the door, Stiles assumed from Jolene's incredibly unhelpful comment. The two of them only grew more anxious the less they heard. Stiles knocked on the door once more to see if his friend would answer, but there was nothing. Only silence.
"Do you want me to break down the door?" Jolene offered.
"No, that's crazy...Pick the lock." Stiles didn't even know if she could actually pick a lock, but they seemed to be quite in sync. She actually could.
Jolene pulled up her dress a little on her thigh, which made Stiles immediately glance away, not wanting to overstep a boundary and he might faint if he saw something. Jolene grabbed her pocket knife that was sitting in the top of her thigh high tights and pushed her dress back down. She used the blade to pick the lock, immediately pushing the door open once she could. They two rushed into the room, but much to their dismay, they found nothing. No Scott and an empty window. He had gotten out.
