ðð¶ððð ð»ð´ð· ðµð¸ð¸ð ð´ð¶ðð¼ððº strange, far weirder than normal. After he had, allegedly, been bitten by a wolf in the woods, he had been hearing things, seeing things, had been far more agile. Scott knew something had to be wrong.
At the lacrosse tryouts, Scott actually seemed talented, which was what set off his suspicions, he and Stiles, his best friend, were walking through the forest to find the dead body they were searching for and Scott's inhaler. He too needed to ask his only friend if he knew what was going on. Scott needed some sort of reassurance.
"I-I don't know what it was. It was like I had all the time in the world to catch the ball. And that's not the only weird thing. I-I can hear stuff I shouldn't be able to hear. Smell things." Scott explained as best he could as he and Stiles moved across the creek, referring to the lacrosse tryouts and his incredible skill that was non-existent a few days ago.
"Smell things? Like what?" Stiles furrowed his eyebrows, that being quite the odd symptom. Scott motioned to his friend as he elaborated, "Like the mint mojito gum in your pocket."
"I don't even have any mint mojito-" Stiles checked his inner breast pocket of his sweater that he believed to be empty, but much to his surprise, he found a single folded-up piece of mint mojito gum, just as Scott guessed. Stiles looked up at his friend, considering the coincidence before he continued, "So all this started with the bite?"
Stiles was somewhat intrigued while the boy himself, Scott, was far more concerned, manifesting every possible and horrific scenario. "What if it's like an infection? Like my body's flooding with adrenaline before I go into shock or something?"
Stiles smirked for a moment, recognising the familiarity of some of the symptoms. He did try to compose himself and appear as serious as possible as he suggested, "You know what? I actually think I've heard of this -- it's a specific kind of infection."
"Are you serious?"
"Yeah. Yeah, I think it's called lycanthropy." Scott, having not caught onto the fact that Stiles was messing with him, panicked since that was far too big of a word for him to comprehend. He may have been faster and stronger, but the bite did not make him smarter. He worried, "What's that? Is that bad?"
"Oh, yeah. It's the worst. But only once a month. On the night of the full moon." Stiles fake-howled like a wolf to taunt his friend. Scott, annoyed, shoved him away, which only earned a chuckle in amusement and a defence, "Hey, you're the one who heard a wolf howling!"
"Hey, there could be something seriously wrong with me!"
"I know! You're a werewolf!" Scott was not impressed or amused by the joke.
Stiles wasn't serious, of course, they both knew werewolves weren't real. "Okay, obviously I'm kidding. But Jolene's into like horror and stuff, she can probably tell you what kind of bite that is."
"Yeah, as if she'd talk to us." Scott spoke sarcastically.
"The day that Jolene Dalton looks in my direction will be the day that I can die a happy man." Stiles was now only half joking. Jolene might believe that he had deep feelings for her best friend, but it was wildly misinterpreted. Stiles has been infatuated with Jolene ever since he's known her. He knew she was out of his league, but that didn't stop his heart.
Stiles thought she was the most beautiful girl that has ever lived from her freckles to her tousled hair, her brown eyes to her skin that was constantly drawn on. Not only was the an angel in human form, but Stiles couldn't get enough of her humour, her charm, her effortless confidence. Being in the same room as her was a dream come true for Stiles. He didn't think he'd be lucky enough to live in the same time and place as a girl as perfect as she.
"I could have sworn this was it." Scott expressed as he had stopped walking, kneeling down on the ground and looking through the leaves for his inhaler. There was no body and no inhaler, so Stiles guessed, "Maybe the killer moved the body?"
"If he did, I hope he left my inhaler. Those things are like eighty bucks."
All of a sudden, Stiles wacked his friend's shoulder, getting him to stand up. None other than Jolene had seemingly appeared out of thin air. Stiles could have sworn she wasn't standing there a second ago, but she's always been sneaky. Unfortunately for her own sanity, she hadn't heard their conversation beforehand.
"This is private property." Jolene informed, but that brought forth a valid wondering from Stiles, who was shocked he was actually able to speak in full sentences around her. "Then why are you here?"
"I know the guy that lives here. He hates me." Jolene laughed out, she too baffled that she hadn't said something idiotic or turned into a melting pile of fluster and admiration.
"So, shouldn't you not be on his property?" Stiles asked, beginning a small battle of wits as Jolene was holding the strap of her bag that was filled with paints, brushes, and her very used paint palette.
"Well, I was planning on painting naked Renaissance men all over his house."
"Why?"
"Why not?" Jolene shrugged her shoulders before she pushed some hair behind her ear, not entirely sure what to do with her hands. Just being near Stiles made her heart beat faster than ever before. Jolene's attention did suddenly switch to Scott, whom she heard a mindful whisper from. It was internal, but she could tell he was thinking about a bite, one that marked his skin.
Scott had stood up from his knelt down spot on the ground, uneasy about Jolene, a girl he never thought he'd ever speak to, and her glare on him as she made an incredible and impossible observation, "You're hurt. An animal bit you."
"Are you psychic?" Scott asked, only slightly seriously. He did swallow his pride, however, and his demeanour became more timid as Jolene narrowed her eyes at him. It was incredible how intimidating she was. Jolene ignored his question since she didn't feel she owed him anything. Besides, it would be difficult to explain that she knew of this bite because she read his mind.
Jolene opened her bag and pulled out an inhaler she had found while she was walking. She recognized the name, so she tossed it to Scott. "Here you go, wheezy."
Scott caught it with ease before Jolene continued, "And just ask out Allison. It's annoying to see her fawn over you like a lost puppy."
â¢â.ââ»âââââ ââ¼â.â¦â¦.ââ½ââ»âââââ»â.ââ¢
Scott was at his locker in the empty school hallway with his lacrosse gear. He had his gym bag with the rest of his equipment, but had to retrieve his gloves from his locker. It was nothing out of the ordinary, a regular task. The last thing Scott expected was to get interrogated by someone he had only had a strange interaction with.
As soon as Scott closed his locker door, Jolene Dalton was standing there with her classic glare pointed right at him. Scott jumped, startled by her sudden presence. "Jesus! You scared me."
"Where are you getting your juice, Scott?" Jolene questioned, trying to knock out the more plausible reason for his heightened skill in a sport Scott was notoriously bad at. The brunette boy, however, with his spacey mind, did not catch on whatsoever. "What?"
"I said, where are you getting your juice?" Jolene repeated slowly to mock Scott, emphasising the taunt that he was idiotic. Scott furrowed his eyebrows, still not understanding the question, but he being intimidated and overwhelmed by the Dalton girl was doing him no good.
"My mom does all the grocery shopping." Scott responded, causing Jolene to let out a breath of shame and pinch the bridge of her nose. It was insane to her how empty this boy's mind was.
Seeing as how he was clueless and needed to be handled directly, Jolene grabbed the collar of Scott's jersey and pushed him against his locker, threatening, "If you don't start talking, I'm gonna start ripping out your teeth."
"I don't even know what you're talking about!" Scott expressed hurriedly, disgusted and terrified of her remark. He didn't really want to lose his teeth all because he didn't understand.
"Steroids, you idiot." Jolene breathed out, already tired of talking to this boy. Just from her limited knowledge and research on the supernatural, Jolene knew that werewolves were one of the most common and lowest species out there. Part of that stemmed from her generational grudge. Werewolves didn't stray too far from humans while there were far more powerful and terrifying beings such as sirens, but too banshees, nogitsunes, and hell hounds.
"Steroids? I'm not on steroids!"
"Then what the hell is going on with you?!" Jolene stressed, still trying to push Scott to admit the information she needed before she resorted to plan b.
"You really want to know what's going on with me?! Well, so would I! Because I can see, hear, and smell things that I shouldn't be able to see, hear, and smell. I do things that should be impossible, I'm sleepwalking three miles into the middle of the woods, and I'm pretty much convinced that I'm totally out of my freaking mind!" Scott vented.
Seeing as how he was incredibly overwhelmed by his own issues, but now being pressed to discuss them more, Scott let out a breath as he leaned the back of his head against the locker. Although, his rest wouldn't last long. In fact, his stress was about to be heightened.
Very suddenly, Jolene put her hands over the sides of his head, taking over his mind. Jolene's fingertips looked as though they had fazed into his temples while Scott's eyes turned white and her irises glowed red. it was an elaborate look she took on every time she entered the mindscape of another.
Jolene didn't know why her eyes did such a thing, but she did know that anytime she infiltrated a mind, it was an inconceivable amount of pain for said person to experience.
Jolene was searching Scott's mind for specific supernatural information. Scott clearly didn't consciously know what he was, so she was searching the deep recesses of his brain to find that subconscious part that would tell her what creature Scott had turn into.
When Jolene let go of her grasp on his mind, Scott came out of this trance breathing heavily and holding the sides of his head to protect himself since they were in immense pain. He looked down at Jolene with a horrified look. "What did you do to me?!"
Scott was ignored. Jolene just grabbed his chin and forced him to keep his eyes on her. "Listen to me very carefully, all that shit you've been experiencing -- the seeing, hearing, smelling things you shouldn't be -- if it happens again, you get off the field and I will help you, got it?"
"This is really weird." Scott's words were muffled since she was holding his face tightly to strike more fear into his being. Jolene took her hand away and instead, moved it right next to his head, threatening to enter his mind once more. Scott didn't know what she was doing, but he did know that it was painful, so he flinched and quickly complied, "Yes! Okay, okay! I will, I promise!"
"Good."
Jolene leaned down and grabbed his gym bag, pushing it into his chest, which made Scott flinch. Not once had Jolene spoken a word to him, so it was strange now that she was so involved as soon as Scott's life turned south.
Even after that interrogation, that strange interaction, Jolene said nothing. She simply left Scott be, giving him one last glare. It sent chills down his spine. There was something off and cold about her. Scott could say with full confidence that he could never understand any infatuation or admiration Stiles had for that girl.
