ð¼ð ðð´ð ðð»ð¸ ð¹ð¼ð ðð real game of the season and Beacon Hills was ready to go. The bleachers were filled with students and loved ones, including Lydia and Jolene. Allison accompanied them, but she brought her dad along too. Jolene was a little anxious around Mr. Argent since she's aware that he's a werewolf hunter and was actively trying to kill Scott, but she didn't make that known. Truthfully, Jolene would be fine if most of the werewolves died. After all, that's exactly what they did to the sirens. But Scott has sort of, not really become her kind of friend, so he was the exception.
Jolene was still worried that Scott was going to shift on the field or not be capable of controlling his animalistic instincts. It wasn't as if she could do anything to stop it. She wasn't willing to make herself known to the whole world and she couldn't get into Scott's mind without being near him anyway.
Speaking of whom, Scott and Stiles were walking over to the team's bench when suddenly, Jolene put her forehead on Lydia's shoulder. The ginger girl furrowed her eyebrows, concerned for her friend. She lightly patted Jolene's thigh, worrying, "Jolene, you okay?"
"He's so hot it's painful." Lydia laughed and rolled her eyes as Jolene sat back up. Lydia did get up from the bleachers and started to make her way down to Scott while Allison was talking with her dad. She hadn't even noticed that Lydia left while Jolene was confused. She didn't know what Lydia would want with Scott, why she would be speaking to him, that she even knew he existed, but Jolene assumed it was for lacrosse reasons. The hilarious thing was that Lydia doesn't even care about lacrosse. She only cares if Jackson looks good.
Stiles was currently fixing something on his lacrosse stick when he looked up into the bleachers and caught Jolene's eyes. Because of earlier today and her small freak-out, he was concerned that she wasn't doing too well. This whole situation with Scott was stressing her out a lot more than he previously thought. He mouthed, "Are you okay?"
Jolene nodded her head as she zipped up her sweater a little more. Stiles sent her a reassuring smile to show he cared, anything to make her feel better before he turned back to what he needed to prepare for the game. Jolene's lips turned into a smile that she tried to hide by biting the inside of her cheek. It didn't work since Allison saw it. She nudged her friend's arm and teased, "What are you so happy about?"
"It should be inhuman for someone to be that perfect." Allison looked over at Stiles, aware that that's who Jolene was referring to. She watched as Stiles was trying to put on his glove while still holding his lacrosse stick. He lost grip of his lacrosse stick and tried to catch it, but that resulted in him dropping his gloves too and scrambling to grab everything without someone noticing. Allison raised her eyebrows, shocked that anyone could find such a clutz attractive, but Jolene admired that about him. She thought it was beautiful how Stiles held so many imperfections from his clumsiness to his moles, his breathless ramblings to his inability to sit still. It all made Stiles, Stiles.
The referee suddenly blew his whistle, signalling for the teams to get on the field. Lydia walked back up to the stands and sat down between Jolene and Allison. The teams got to their feet as the crowd cheered for Beacon Hills, the players running onto the field. Not shockingly, Stiles was still on the bench. Come to think of it, Jolene had never really seen Stiles play in a real game, but she assumed he was good since he was on the team. Stiles was happy about his spot on the bench, he didn't have to back up his lie.
Jolene did notice that Sheriff Stilinski was there, so she tried to avoid eye contact when he turned back around to sit on the bench after speaking with his son. He did see her very obviously trying to hide her face. He let out a tired breath. "Hi, Jolene."
Jolene's head shot up as she tried to play off the fact she had noticed him earlier. She wasn't fooling anyone. "Hey, Sheriff! I didn't know you were here."
"Right."
"Nose is lookin' very pointy today. Congrats!" Sheriff Stilinski sighed and continued on to find his seat. Jolene scrunched nose and pushed her hair in front of her face, loathing every moment of her existence. Allison had witnessed the entire ordeal and couldn't help but let out a small laugh. "So, are you just painfully awkward around everybody?"
"He doesn't like me very much." Jolene admitted. "He sees too much of me."
"What, in jail?"
Jolene quirked her head. "More or less."
Allison wasn't sure what to make of that, but Jolene wasn't going to elaborate any more than she already had. Lydia knew about the issues she had with her father and now, so did Stiles, which she did not like. Jolene didn't hate her dad for his alcoholism, she didn't hate that she had to take care of him when it should have been the other way around, but she still didn't want people knowing about it. She and Allison weren't quite close enough yet.
On the field, the referee set the ball down on the grass between Jackson and one of the players on the other team, ordering them to get in position. Jackson was still a little sore, but he was well enough to play. Lydia was a little worried about him; Jolene didn't care.
Jackson and the other player crouched down with their lacrosse sticks in the ready position, both of them preparing themselves. Scott was a few feet behind them in his own position just as the whistle blew. The players started the game, Jackson swiftly scooping up the ball and rushing down the field with Scott and his other teammates following him. Scott ran quickly, far faster than everyone else, indicating to Jackson that he was open for a pass, but Jackson ignored him and sent it to someone else. Lydia was only focused on Jackson, but Allison and Jolene did think it was weird Scott was deliberately ignored when the guy who was passed to wasn't open.
That same guy who was passed to ignored Scott once again and instead tried to pass to another player who was much better guarded. The player ended up missing the ball and the opposing team got a hold of it, rushing down the opposite end of the field, leaving Scott and the rest of the team frustrated. They were lucky that a goal didn't occur since the Beacon Hills Cyclones were able to get the ball again. It got tossed back to Jackson, who got side-tackled hard, causing the ball to fall out of the net. This time, Scott actually had the opportunity to get the ball. However, Jackson had seen it as well. It was a race to see who could get the glory.
Both boys ran for it, trying to reach the ball. Jackson shoved Scott aside so that he could regain possession of the ball, but this made Scott hit the ground hard. Melissa, Scott's mother, gasped at the impact and Allison clearly looked worried.
"What the hell are they doing?" Jolene muttered under her breath, confused by why Scott was being targeted by his own team, but that competitive spark within her was also angry. She wanted Beacon Hills to win.
Jackson was able to get the ball in the net, scoring the first goal of the game. The crowd in the bleachers stood up and cheered, but Jolene didn't join in. She crossed her arms in front of her chest and bit the inside of her cheek. Coach was quite thrilled and so was the rest of the team. It was only Stiles, Jolene, Melissa, and Allison who had caught on to what was happening. Allison was urged to stand up and clap by Lydia and so was Jolene, but she still didn't move. Melissa was reluctant, but was much kinder than Jolene. Stiles too was quite nervous about what was going on.
Jackson celebrated with his other teammates and only taunted Scott by sending him arrogant smirks. Stiles and Jolene both saw the small interaction, which worried them a little, but what was worse was when Lydia picked up her sign she had made before they arrived and urged Allison and Jolene, "Guys, help me with the sign."
Jolene didn't move, she just shook her head and let out a breath, but Allison did help out. She stood up with Lydia and held up the sign that read, "WE LUV U JACKSON!" in bold lettering. Jolene knew that it wasn't going to be easy for Scott to see that considering how much he truly cares for Allison, and she was only proven right when he stomped back onto the field.
In the middle, Jackson, Danny, and several other players were huddled together whispering something. Jolene was curious, so she did something she doesn't often do. She didn't silence the voices in her head. She could hear what all of the players were thinking and in some cases saying since one has to think of the words as they say it. It was all a big jumble of different voices since there were about five players and her powers weren't that concentrated, but she could make out that Jackson only wanted players to pass to him and deliberately avoid Scott.
The players began to scatter to their various positions on the field while Scott was still standing several yards away from them. He was crouched with his head down, not really in position. The referee did stop by him to see if he was okay, but Scott simply nodded his head. The referee let him be and went to the centre of the field. What was incredibly disturbing was watching a player from the other team slowly back away from him.
"Which one is Scott again?" Argent suddenly asked from the other side of Allison. She was going to answer, but Lydia wanted to be snarky. "Number eleven--otherwise known as the only one who hasn't caught a single ball this entire game."
Allison let out a breath, worried for him since she knew he was a better player than this. "I hope he's okay."
"He's probably just not on steroids anymore." Jolene tried to comfort, wanting to avert any potential attention that he would be a werewolf, especially diverting Argent. Everyone looked over at her, Argent concerned, Allison even more afraid, and Lydia sending her a scolding glare. Jolene quickly corrected herself. "I mean, whaaaat? Scott's not on steroids, he's just...s...sparkly..."
Argent simply looked away, not wanting to speak to or listen to Jolene talk. Allison also returned her focus to the game while Lydia grabbed the sign once more. "We need to win this."
Lydia stood up and held it out for Allison. She nudged her friend a little, who wasn't paying attention, but once she saw that frightening glare from Lydia, she got to her feet. Reluctantly, Allison got to her feet and held up her half of the sign while Lydia did the same. Jolene shook her head, irritated by the sign and Jackson in general, especially since he was pushing Scott to his limit.
The players all got into position again, but it was obvious by his demeanour alone that he had seen the sign. When the referee blew the whistle, the two boys weren't able to push past and grab the ball. The force sent the ball flying into the air, but this was Scott's chance. He lept high into the air, going straight over the heads of two players, and landed lightly on his feet, immediately taking off towards the goal. Scott easily dodged three players from the opposing team, who tried to tackle him, but what he really had to worry about was that Jackson was right behind him. Jolene may not like werewolves or even Scott that much, but she hated Jackson more. Her finger twitched slightly and created an illusion around Jackson. She couldn't control people, but she was able to make a small divot in the ground that made Jackson trip and fall flat on his face.
Lydia flinched, worried for her boyfriend while Jolene got to her feet and yelled to taunt, "Walk much, Whittemore?"
Allison joined her in standing up and cheered for Scott to keep going. She and Jolene together were able to start a chant for Scott, getting everyone in the stands except for Argent and Lydia involved. This encouraged him to weave and spin around other players at an incredible speed. Once he was prepared, he shot the ball right into the goal, making the crowd even crazier. Coach started urging players to pass to Scott, which pissed off Jackson to no extent.
The standoff started up again and the whistle went off. The two players fought for the ball, but the opposing team got it. Unfortunately for that player, he came face to face with Scott, who was horrified to see his eyes glowing gold and fangs growing from his face. He deliberately passed him the ball, which Scott caught with ease and ran towards the goal. Everyone was confused by what just happened, why someone would pass the ball to the other team on purpose, but they were happy to know they were winning.
Once he got to the right end of the field, Scott took his shot, throwing the ball with such force that it broke the net on the goalie's stick, now finally tying the game up in the final quarter. Everyone was cheering on Scott and Beacon Hills. Stiles and Jolene had joined in, but after a while, the girl had stopped since she found this to be a little concerning. Stiles was simply overwhelmed with pride for his friend.
Jackson might have been playing for the Cyclones, but he and the opposing team could agree that there was something wrong with Scott, they assumed steroids of some sort. Jackson and another player crouched down in the stand off position, the latter gaining possession. He ended up accidentally dropping the ball as he was running, which Scott was able to scoop up and run the other way. Everyone watched and cheered him on as he ran down the other end of the field, suddenly freezing in place. Everyone assumed that he was taking his time to shoot properly, but Jolene could hear the bloodlust from the stands. She wanted to help, infiltrate his mind to get him to turn human, but she couldn't do that without physical contact. She simply hoped for the best.
Scott was able to somewhat snap out of it, hearing Allison's quiet encouragement with his supernatural hearing. He put all of his strength into the shot, tossing the ball right towards the goal with such force that the goalie dodged it instead of trying to catch it. The referee blew his whistle, indicating that it was a goal right before the timer ran out, officially declaring that Beacon Hills had won the game.
Everyone in the stands erupted into cheers and celebrated with each other. Everyone began to run onto the field, wanting to congratulate their friends, kids, loved ones, everyone they cared about that was in that game. The only people who stayed on the stands were Jolene and Sheriff Stilinski, Stiles too sitting on the bench. Jolene would have congratulated Danny, but she had gotten distracted.
When Jolene blocks out everyone's thoughts, it's a permanent thing that needs to stay, it takes a lot of effort to hear people's thoughts. So, when it does happen, it takes some time for her to deafen it all out. This resulted in her hearing the mind of Sheriff Stilinski, who was taking in quite a lot of information. Apparently, the medical examiner had gotten the chance to look at the other half of the body that was found on Derek Hale's property and determined that the killed of the girl was animal, not human. Since, to the average eye, Derek Hale is a human and not a werewolf, Derek couldn't have killed her. Derek was let out of jail, but the worst part of it was that the girl who was killed in the woods was Laura Hale; Derek's sister.
