ð½ðð¿ð¸ðð¸ ðð´ð ððð´ðð¼ððº ð¿ð´ðð¸ after school for about an hour so she could work on an art assignment due tomorrow. She had spoken to Coach, who agreed to lock the door once she was gone. Coach knows Jolene well from her being an involved audience member for lacrosse games, so he was fine to lock up for her.
Jolene was putting far too much detail into her artwork than necessary, but her art teacher knew that this was normal. Jolene found a passion and safety within art, it kept her going in the chaos that surrounded her life.
Jolene had never had a showcase or sold a painting, but her art teacher has seen great promise within her talent. Her dedication alone was unmatched. The issue was that Jolene received many compliments from her teacher, which did her no good. Jolene strives when people doubt her.
In spite of everyone, Jolene pushes herself to be better. She looked at her art objectively and corrects what needs to be corrected. She's tough on herself to the point of pain. Thus the story of a tortured artist.
Jolene was working on her assignment. She was doing a hand study where she made sure to show every single detail. It had taken her far longer than normal, but hands were Jolene's weakness.
Jolene was finishing up the details on one of the ring fingers. Jolene's hair was tousled as usual since she has this horrid habit of twirling and playing with her hair while she's thinking. She was knocked out of her artistic trance when she heard, "Holy shit."
Jolene looked to the side to see Stiles staring at her painting with awe. She wanted to throw her painting out the window, throw it face down on the ground so he couldn't see it, but the paint was still wet. Jolene let out a small and nervous laugh. "What are you doing here?"
"Did you do this?" Stiles ignored her question, still hyper-fixated on her art. Jolene nodded her head as her cheeks turned red. She put her paintbrush down on the easel's shelf. "Yeah, it's for art class, but I'm gonna use it for my portfolio."
"Well, whatever a portfolio is, it's gonna look amazing if that's what this is for. I didn't know you were so good at painting." Stiles complimented. Jolene looked down at her hands, trying her hardest not to let her cheeks turn red and her smile become too wide. It didn't work. Stiles admiring her passion made her stomach do somersaults.
Stiles has never had an artistic mind, he's always been more analytical. He could appreciate quality art, however. And Jolene's was breathtaking...her mind was breathtaking.
"So, um, are you coming to practice?" Stiles got back to why he was actually visiting her and kept trying to tear his eyes away from the painting, but he struggled to. Jolene turned on the stool she was sitting on and shrugged her shoulders. "I don't know. I don't really feel like seeing Jackson's face and I know Danny will make the team. I don't think people care if I'm there anyway."
"I want you there." Jolene's heart skipped a beat, unable to formulate any kind of words. Stiles desperately wanted to be with her every second of every day, but he knew that that was nothing more than a dream. It didn't help that Stiles couldn't seem to keep his discretion around her. He very quickly tried to save himself, "To make sure Scott doesn't wolf-out or anything."
"Well, I guess I could watch for a bit. I'm basically done this anyway." Jolene complied as she grabbed her palette and paintbrushes. It was her own supplies, but she brought them over to the sink to clean quickly.
Stiles joked, "I've heard some of the guys like flirt with you and stuff. I get that can kinda suck, but just try to distract yourself from those assholes. Focus on being my personal cheerleader."
"Isn't that for girlfriends?" Jolene laughed. The sole idea of getting to date Jolene made Stiles' cheeks flush and his anxiety peaked. He laughed and waved her off as Jolene began to put everything away in her bag, walking back to he and her belongings. "Pff- no. Nuh, uh. Nope. You can- you can still, you know, enjoy cheering and being...you know, like...like a whatever, you know?"
Jolene nodded her head with a small smile as she put her bag over her shoulder, heading on her way out, Stiles following her. She figured she would go since Stiles asked. She wasn't going to turn down the opportunity to see him more. Neither was Stiles.
Stiles and Jolene began to walk through the school, making their way to the locker rooms as Stiles very suddenly asked, "So, would you want to hang out after this?"
"You mean to talk about Scott?" Jolene sent him a suspicious look, never thinking she would get the opportunity to spend time with Stiles as friends or acquaintances. She didn't think Stiles would ever look at her that way, not with Lydia constantly next to her.
Stiles, however, shook his head. "No, just to hang out. You know, Scott and Allison are like kind of a thing so we might have to hang out anyway. Plus, the whole...teen wolf thing."
Jolene had to bite the inside of her cheek to keep herself from smiling too much. She knew that Stiles was doing this as more of a strategic and tactical move all because of their friend's dating, but still, Jolene could feel the butterflies swarming throughout her entire body. "Then, yeah. I think that could be fun. I might make you watch a horror movie, it could save your life."
Stiles stopped walking for a moment, having reached the locker rooms as Jolene kept walking. "Wait, save my life? What, you're not like an axe murderer or anything?"
"I'd be a pretty bad axe murderer if I told you that." Jolene smiled as she turned around, walking backwards. His face dropped a moment, concerned. "Wait...you're joking, right?"
Jolene, who kept walking to go to the field, shrugged her shoulders with a smile. Jolene turned back around and kept walking. Stiles watched her a second as that recurring smile appeared on his lips. That small interaction was everything to him.
Stiles adored the traits Jolene seemed to carry. She was eccentric, creative, fierce, confident, yet still was slightly introverted, awkward, and artistic. Stiles couldn't get a read on her. He didn't know what it was about Jolene that drew him in, but he loved it.
Jolene had gone out to the lacrosse field where the team came out just a few minutes later. Jolene sat with Lydia and Allison, as per usual. When Stiles got out to the field, he sent her a small smile, to which she returned. This did, however, make her heart beat a million times faster.
Jolene watched as the players ran around the field, passing back to each other and shoulder-checking opponents to try and score a goal. Jolene wanted to watch Stiles, but was more focused on Scott, who had run towards Jackson holding the long-stick, and was very easily tackled to the ground, falling flat on his back onto the grassy field. Jolene was worried that Scott's anger might get the best of him.
Coach was talking to him, most likely not helping the situation, but within time, both Jackson and Scott got back to their positions. Scott returned to the front of the line-up for the one-on-ones. Jolene could practically sense his anger all the way from the stands.
Scott ran full-speed at Jackson, gripping his lacrosse stick with all his might as he crashed into Jackson. He hit Jackson right in the collarbone, sending him falling backwards. He fell flat on his back as Scott had earlier, but Jackson clutched his right shoulder in pain, screaming and groaning in pain.
Stiles panicked and ran over to Scott as everyone else rushed to Jackson. Scott's fangs had come out, his eyes were glowing a bright gold, and he was down on his knees, desperately trying to keep himself from turning.
Stiles helped Scott to his feet and quickly began to rush him towards the school. Stiles motioned for Jolene to join them, which didn't go unnoticed by Lydia.
Stiles was worried that he wouldn't be able to handle this on his own and Jolene seemed to have some sort of experience with this. Jolene helped Stiles get Scott into the locker room. They pushed him through the door, Scott falling to his knees next to one of the sinks. They needed him contained and away from everyone. However, Jolene immediately faffed as soon as she walked into the boys' locker room. "Dear god! I didn't know smells could be this bad!"
"Is this really what's important right now?!" Stiles stressed, but Jolene was hugging her arms in fear. "Yes! It's so gross in here!"
All of a sudden, Scott jumped up on top of the lockers, his face covered in fur and his eyes glowing. The two teenagers jumped at the sudden movement.
Scott looked down at the two of them, tracking the two of them as they moved around the locker room to avoid Scott. He was stalking them like prey. Scott did jump down to attack them, but luckily, Jolene had experience with werewolves. A new one on his second shift was nothing.
Like something out of a horror movie, Jolene's eyes turned black. She caught Scott by her hand going straight into his skull, fazing through his skin. His legs went limp and his eyes flickered white. He began to shift back into a normal human being, Jolene taking over his mind and silencing that part of his mind that was forcing the shift.
Jolene dropped Scott onto the ground, letting him groan in pain as Stiles stared at her with a mixture of awe and fear. Within a moment, Jolene had gone from supernatural to her normal self -- to her tousled hair, to her pale skin, to her hazel eyes, to Jolene.
"You're really annoying, Scott." Jolene insulted as he slowly looked back up at her, terrified. Stiles, from behind her, asked, "What the hell was that?"
Jolene looked back at Stiles for a moment, going to say something, but she couldn't. Jolene had no idea what to say. How was she supposed to explain what she is? Instead, Jolene turned back to Scott and held out her hand for him to take. He did with hesitation, so Jolene helped him to his feet as she rushed through the question, "Nothing. I'm...I'm a siren- it doesn't matter! I stopped him from killing us, so it's a good thing."
"I tried to kill you guys?" Scott breathed out, not fully recalling what had just happened. He had a horribly guilty look on his face as Jolene backed up, leaning against one of the sinks. Stiles looked over at her for a moment, still wary of the fact that the girl he's been infatuated with since the third grade was a supernatural creature.
"Your anger rising, your pulse rising -- it's a trigger." Stiles explained.
"How's he supposed to not get angry in lacrosse? It's violent. He'd have to never play." Jolene pointed out, but Scott immediately shook his head. "No! No, that isn't an option. I'm first line."
"Not anymore. You can't play Saturday since you could kill someone on that field...you have to give this up..."
