Chapter 914: Mindful

Camille's expression grew heavy; she had an indescribable feeling.

Meeting Ayan's gaze, she replied in a soft, low voice, “Fortunately.”

"Good thing there's a reason behind it, or else this sudden change

would make me feel like our previous relationship was all for naught.”

Although she only said one word, Ayan understood its meaning.

He smiled faintly, “Then don't think about this matter anymore. As for

Mrs. Bell's message, you've completely fulfilled your promise by

relaying it to me. I'll personally handle the next steps and contact Mr.

and Mrs. Bell."

Ayan didn't want Camille to do anything that might affect her mood. He

knew Camille's soft-hearted nature and her sense of loyalty. Sometimes

certain things inadvertently stirred her emotions, leaving her unsettled

for a while.

As for Mr. and Mrs. Bell's relationship and the difficulty of dealing with

Mr. Mikkola, those were issues he could easily handle and resolve.

After discussing Mrs. Bell's matters, the atmosphere fell into silence

again.

His eyes were fixed on her, unblinking, and his straightforward

expression made her uncomfortable.

Camille averted her gaze but her posture on the couch seemed

awkward. She subtly bit her lip and said impassively, "There's nothing

else. I'm leaving."

Camille intended to walk past Ayan on her way out of the office.

However, he grabbed her wrist. His deep voice was low as he asked,

"Nothing else to say?"

Camille pretended not to understand, "No."

He chuckled, "Really?"

"Yes."

"So distant with me?" He stood up as well, closing the distance

between them until they were almost touching. He said, "Are you sure

you don't want to come back to the Simpson's mansion with me? If

Grandpa and my parents see us going separate ways, they'll surely

start nagging me again.”

Considering their low status within the Simpson family, he sounded

somewhat aggrieved. Camille's heart softened, and her lips twitched

slightly.

But recalling last night's events, Camille suppressed the rising curve of

her lips and returned to her impassive demeanor.

She said, "Returning to the Simpson's mansion is something for later

tonight. It's still early now.”

Not refusing, not agreeing.

Ayan chuckled, then released her wrist to hold her tightly in his arms.

His gaze was tender as he looked into her eyes, his voice husky as he

asked, "Why such a strong reaction? Can't I even hold your hand?"

She hesitated for a moment, her eyes rolling, a faint stiffness in her

expression. Then she looked at Ayan and asked, "Did you find out?"

Ayan didn't speak, but the subtle, shallow smile at the corner of his

mouth was answer enough.

Camille didn't want to continue hiding, releasing her grip on the hair.

The hair in her palm was the same shade as Eileen's.

She said directly, "I want to find out if she really is Preston's sister.

What's her relationship with Preston?"

Ayan had speculated about their relationship before, but Eileen and

Preston were in separate locations at that time, both highly cautious

due to the incident involving Austin. So, Ayan couldn't carry out his

initial plan.

His suggested action was not inaction.

He smiled faintly, watching Camille reveal the truth, realizing that even

if he wanted to deceive her, he wouldn't have had the opportunity to

coordinate with Kian beforehand. After all, she had just taken the hair

from Eileen, and she wasn't even sure if she would succeed. After

Eileen left, she would be out of reach. The two of them were always

together.

He chuckled softly, observing Camille's inability to hide her displeasure

as she spoke candidly. "Give me the hair, hmm?"

Camille immediately closed her palm. "I told you not because you

sensed any reservations. I simply didn't want to keep it from you. After

all, it's something that will come out sooner or later. There's no need to

hide it, right?"

“I'm not trying to stop you, but are you sure you can get Preston's hair

smoothly? He's currently in Flento City. Even if you were to go there,

can you really get it from him without any trouble? Preston is suspicious

and cautious. One small mistake, and not only will you fail to obtain

what you want, but you might also arouse his suspicion. If he starts

suspecting in that direction, we won't have any chances of success in

the future.”

Ayan's expression turned stern as he spoke, his brows furrowing. He

wasn't trying to deceive or threaten Camille. Everything he said had a

strong possibility of being true.

If things reached that point, it would be difficult for them to exert any

control over Preston in this matter. Even if they could, it would require a

significant amount of resources.

Ayan glanced at Camille and purposefully maintained a distance of one

step from her. He said, "I know what worries you. You're afraid I'll

protect Eileen, and you're worried I won't follow your plan. Though I

won't act in that manner, I understand that assurance is something

intangible. I won't force you into decisions you're uncomfortable with.

What I can tell you is this: I can arrange this matter faster and more

effectively than if you were to handle it personally.”

To show his sincerity, Ayan walked up to his desk and dialed the

internal line. "Kian, come in."

Kian responded, "Of course, Mr. Simpson."

In less than a minute, Kian knocked and entered the room.

Seeing Camille in the office didn't surprise him. His assistant had

already given him a brief rundown of what had happened. He nodded

slightly in acknowledgment upon seeing Camille.

Kian approached Ayan and whispered, "Mr. Simpson, what can I do for

you?"

Ayan's tone was calm as he instructed, "Show her what Zoie retrieved

from Preston.”

Kian hesitated briefly before nodding and promptly turned to leave. He

returned within a few minutes, holding a small box resembling a piece

of jewelry. He gently opened it and extended it toward Camille. Inside

was a lock of hair, its texture and length indicating that it belonged to a

man.

Kian explained, "Madam, this is hair that our team obtained from

Preston. Originally, we intended to use Preston's hair for a blood

relation test with Eileen.”

Camille was well aware that Ayan wouldn't have had the opportunity to

coordinate this with Kian in advance, even if he had wanted to deceive

her. She had just acquired Eileen's hair herself, and Eileen didn't even

know if it would work before she left. There wouldn't have been a

chance afterward, especially since they had been together the entire

time.

Camille didn't speak, her expression growing more serious. Ayan

looked at Kian, and Kian left the room.

It was now just Camille and Ayan left in the office. Ayan leaned against

the desk, his expression devoid of any unnecessary emotions or

reactions to the situation.

Camille asked, "You really don't mind at all?"

"Why should I mind?"

He raised his eyes to meet Camille's, a faint smile in their depths. This

smile seemed to say, "I'm not so bored as to waste time on insignificant

matters like this."

Camille pursed her lips, her expression warm and gentle. She said,

"Can we get the results by tomorrow?"

Her question was clear, and she was only a step away from saying she

agreed.

Understanding her intent, Ayan raised his hands to prop them on the

desk. He then stood up and approached her, taking her hand gently. He

placed the hair into the box and said, "Let's go to the testing center

together.”

He acted immediately, leaving his work behind and taking Camille with

him.

He had a friend at the testing center, and he had already contacted him

on the way. When they arrived, the friend was waiting for them.

Ayan didn't mention the wet hair, and the friend didn't ask a redundant

question. Ayan went straight to the point, "We need the results by

tomorrow morning. Should I bring them to you, or would you prefer to

pick them up?"
