Chapter 865: Making Do
"No need to change. There are no men's shoes at home," Sienna
replied softly.
"Alright, as you say,â Rex's lips curved into a joyful smile, although
Sienna didn't catch sight of it.
He still held the takeout Sienna had ordered, and the two of them sat
down on the sofa in the living room. The TV was playing the variety
show Sienna had been following recently.
When they were at the doorway earlier, they didn't feel awkward or
embarrassed, but now that they were sitting close on the sofa, they
became aware of a slight uneasiness.
Sienna kept her head down in silence, and Rex took the initiative to
speak, "Aren't you hungry? Let's eat first!"
As he spoke, he reached out to open the takeout box. It was only a
single portion, meant for Sienna.
He pushed the food in front of Sienna and nodded slightly, gesturing for
her to start eating.
Sienna didn't immediately pick up her fork. Instead, she looked at him
and asked, "Have you eaten?"
âI'm not hungry. You go ahead and eat, and I'll have some later,
alright?"
He raised an eyebrow slightly, his handsome face showing a gentle
expression.
Sienna nodded and then began eating with her chopsticks. She was
indeed hungry, as she hadn't eaten lunch. Recently, she had been
staying at home all the time, mostly having two meals a day. Her
routine was completely reversed, and every day felt like aimless
wandering. She hoped that by emptying her mind and adjusting her
emotions, she could figure things out.
Sienna ate quickly. Because Rex was here, she put down her fork after
eating only half the food. Today, she had ordered spicy chicken and
sweet and sour pork, along with a soup and some vegetarian dishes.
She enjoyed eating spicy and sour food, and each dish suited her taste.
If Rex weren't here, she would have finished it all.
After setting down her utensils, she picked up a tissue and wiped her
mouth before preparing to cover the leftovers.
At that moment, Rex's voice broke the silence. He asked, "Are you
full?â
"Yes."
Rex didn't say anything else. He picked up the fork and the takeout box
without hesitation and started eating.
Although everything was clean, and there was no mess from eating,
Sienna was still taken aback by his actions.
Sienna asked, "Why are you eating it?"
"Aren't you full? It's a waste to throw away what's left," he said,
continuing to eat heartily. It took him less than half the time it took
Sienna to finish.
After tidying up the food containers and throwing them in the trash, he
picked up Sienna's glass and drank half of the water.
After completing this, neither of them spoke, and the atmosphere
remained quiet.
They sat quietly like that, aware of each other's presence only in this
peaceful way, for who knew how long. Eventually, the man's low and
hoarse voice broke the silence, "Is there something you want to tell
me?"
Sienna pursed her lips, not knowing what to say.
She took a silent deep breath, her face showing a somewhat tentative
expression as she looked at Rex and asked softly, âDid you come to
Flento just to deliver takeout to me?"
"Of course not. If I wanted to deliver takeout, I could have found a
delivery person or a courier, right? Why bother coming in person?"
Rex's gaze was fixed on her, noticing her evasive eyes. He then asked,
"We haven't seen each other for only a few months. Have you become
unfamiliar with me?"
"No."
"Are you sure?"
âI'm sure. I just haven't seen you in a long time, so I'm not sure how to
face you. And..."
"And what?"
"And haven't we agreed that I would deal with things here first before
going back to Hance? So why did you come in person?" She arched an
eyebrow, her eyes carrying a faint smile, her expression and manner
returning to her previous attitude towards him.
Seeing her familiar face, Rex couldn't help but smile too. He gently
rubbed her hair and said softly, âIf I hadn't come, when were you
planning to go back? Although we made an agreement, I never said I
absolutely wouldn't come to find you, did 1?"
"You didn't say that?" Sienna asked flatly, almost repeating word for
word what he had promised her.
But Rex insisted, "I didn't say it. I tend to forget things easily, so I don't
really remember what I said. Do you remember?"
He raised an eyebrow, projecting an air of not acknowledging it,
challenging Sienna to see what she could do.
Sienna was overwhelmed by his shamelessness, and she chuckled
lightly. She said, "Alright, you didn't say it, so it must have been me. Is
that satisfactory?"
Rex squinted his eyes, looking at Sienna, and asked, "So now you
need to go to work as well. Why are you still staying here? When do
you plan to leave with me?"
At the mention of leaving, Siennaâs expression grew somber. Her tone
turned mellow as she said, âI... I still don't know. There are some things
I haven't sorted out yet."
"What things?"
"l don't want to talk about it."
"Sienna, now that I'm here, do you think you can still keep things from
me?" Rex's tone grew serious, his expression revealing a hint of
indifference. He said, "Are you unable to tell me what's going on? Is
Mario still unwilling to let you go? Or is he demanding anything from
you to completely leave the King family?"
Rex's words carried an accusatory tone, but it wasn't directed at
Sienna.
After he finished speaking, his face turned cold.
Such a Rex was something Sienna had rarely seen. Last time she saw
him like this was when he threatened to keep her around.
Sienna, unafraid of him, took the initiative to move closer to him, tilting
her head and burying herself in his embrace.
Resting against his chest, she spoke softly, "Why are you being so
harsh? I never said I wouldn't go with you. What's the rush? Hmm?"
Sienna's actions gradually calmed Rex's emotions. He raised his hand
and gently held her waist. "I'm not being harsh, I just don't want you to
continue delaying.â
"Give me a few more days, alright? If you hadn't come, I was planning
to take care of a few things a few more days. Since you're here, I'll
finish it in advance. Is that okay? Are you satisfied?"
She looked up at him, her expression expecting praise and approval,
as if to tell him to hurry up and compliment her.
Rex smiled helplessly, gently ruffled her hair, and said softly, "Satisfied."
Afterward, they didn't discuss the topic further. Sienna stayed with Rex
on the sofa for a while to let him rest. They sat quietly, leaning against
each other. Only in this way could they truly feel each other's presence.
After an unknown amount of time, it was already past ten in the
evening.
Sienna accompanied Rex to a nearby street known for its late-night
snacks.
This area was filled with local specialties of Flento, and Rex rarely
came to such places.
Sienna introduced, "I used to come here often with Cami. This place
was our world. Welcome, Mr. Ward."
Rex gave a faint smile, holding her hand, satisfied with the nickname.
"Then show me around and let me try everything. This street won't only
be a memory for you and Camille anymore. That way, I'll be more
satisfied."
"Are you really comparing yourself to Camille? She holds a special
place in my heart, so I advise you not to compare yourself to her easily.
I'm afraid you'll be disappointed,â Sienna teased playfully, deliberately
trying to make Rex jealous.
Rex said, "I'm not comparing myself. But I will strive to surpass her
position in your heart. You can rest assured I won't let you down.â
âThen, good luck!" Sienna smiled lightly, taking him to her favorite
skewered food stall. Rex rarely ate this kind of food, so he just tasted a
bit before moving on to the next stall. They ate and drank along the
way, buying quite a few small portions that were just enough for both of
them.
After eating and drinking their fill, it was already late.
Once they were back in the car, Sienna asked, "Where are you
staying?"
âI just arrived in Flento today and haven't arranged a hotel yet. I thought
you would accommodate me. If you find it inconvenient, I can rough it
out in the car for a night.â
