Chapter 858: Lack
Kian was the first to react and whispered, "Mr. Simpson, I'll take them
out first and wait for you at the hotel entrance."
Ayan didn't say anything, which meant he agreed. So Kian immediately
waved his hand, signaling the others to leave in a hurry. Lingering any
longer wouldn't be as simple as it seemed.
Once the sound of the door closing was heard, Ayan stood up from his
chair and walked towards the bedroom.
He raised his hand and knocked on the door before entering directly.
Camille was lying in bed, wrapping herself tightly with the blanket,
which made him involuntarily curl his lips, revealing a shallow smile.
He walked over and sat on the edge of the bed, reaching out to pull the
blanket, attempting to uncover the person inside. However, the person
inside held onto it tightly and refused to let go.
Ayan's voice was gentle as he asked, "What are you doing? Why are
you hiding inside? Come out, or else you'll suffocate, hmm? Okay?"
He inquired softly, each word exuding a tender warmth. However,
Camille remained unyielding.
Ayan decided to simply wrap his arms around her, along with the
blanket, and held her in his embrace. His voice grew hoarse as he
asked, "What's the matter?"
Only then did Camille show her round head, her brows furrowed in
displeasure, as she asked, "Why didn't you tell me that there were so
many people here? I must have looked... I embarrassed you, didn't 1?"
After all, he was Ayan, the esteemed CEO of Simpson Group. Kian was
one thing, but if the other people found out that Ayan's wife was such a
disheveled person, it wouldn't sound good, would it?
She pursed her lips slightly, finding it increasingly difficult to talk about
it.
But Ayan didn't care at all. He said, "You don't need to care about
anyone's gaze. As long as you're fine in my eyes, who cares what
others think, hmm?"
"But..."
âNo âbuts.â Don't worry about it. If you really feel uncomfortable, I can
bribe each of them or dig up their personal information to threaten them
and force them to forget what just happened, hmm?"
Camille gave him a speechless look. There was no need for such
actions.
Seeing her silent response, Ayan smiled and then casually reminded
her, "Will you accompany me to the opening ceremony later? After it
ends, we have to return to Hance in the afternoon, okay?"
Camille nodded. After being away for several days, she truly missed
Hance.
When one stayed in a place for a long time, they would long for their
familiar city when going somewhere else.
As for accompanying him to the opening ceremony, Camille hesitated
and asked, "Wouldn't it be inappropriate for me to go to the opening
ceremony? This is your cooperation with Rapace Group, it's work.
Would it be okay for me to attend?"
"Of course it's okay. Who would dare to have any objections?"
"Not openly, but what about behind the scenes?"
"Why bother about what others think? You only need to consider my
opinion, right?" He smiled, teasingly. He put her back on the bed,
uncovered her face from the blanket, tidied her hair, and then
whispered, "After we return to Hance, you promised to make me your
real husband. It's perfectly appropriate for you to accompany me to this
opening ceremony because, in the future, as Mrs. Simpson, you'll have
to accompany me to such events, right?"
Ayan's words were traps, leading Camille step by step, but she didn't
realize the flaws in his words. She simply fell into them and remained
silent for a brief moment before accepting.
An hour later, the two of them left the hotel.
Camille didn't make any deliberate effort to dress up. She simply
applied light makeup and wore a light-colored dress she had brought
from Hance. Her appearance already leaned towards the cool and
elegant type, and with today's outfit and makeup, she looked even
more beautiful and graceful.
Hand in hand, they walked out of the hotel lobby, naturally drawing the
attention of many onlookers.
Kian drove them to the opening ceremony venue. After a journey of
nearly half an hour, they arrived. The venue was already surrounded by
numerous bodyguards, and there was also police support.
Under the escort of the bodyguards, Ayan and Camille entered the
venue. Sophia and the cooperation partners for this project had already
arrived.
Upon seeing Ayan, everyone immediately greeted him with smiles,
saying, "Mr. Simpson!"
Ayan nodded with a gentle expression and then introduced everyone
intentionally, "This is my wife, Camille.â
Everyone naturally understood Ayan's intention. After all, being able to
bring his wife to such an occasion indicated that he highly valued her. It
also informed everyone that his work allowed his wife's involvement.
Camille's position in his heart instantly became clear. Many people who
wanted to curry favor with Ayan were already planning to have their
wives establish a good relationship with Camille. After all, for one, the
words of people who are close to him are influential, especially
considering Ayan's attitude towards Camille. As long as they pleased
Camille, Ayan would certainly treat them well.
However, whether this plan would work or not remained an unknown
variable.
Ten minutes later, the opening ceremony officially began.
After the host's introduction, it was time for the representatives of the
project: Ayan, the President of Simpson Group, and Sophia, the
General Manager of Rapace Group, along with other partners, to come
on stage for the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
After cutting the ribbon, Ayan passed the speech that originally
belonged to him to Sophia. Since he wouldn't be staying in Dane City
all the time, this project often required Sophia's presence to handle
matters. It was necessary to establish her authority from the beginning
so that the project could stand firm, and no one would dare challenge
her decisions and style of work.
Sophia understood Ayan's plan very well, but she still looked at him and
said, "Ayan, you know how to avoid trouble. I'll go up and give the
speech. You owe me a favor. Next time I need help, you have to step
up.â
Ayan had no intention of responding. He just glanced at her
indifferently, as if his gaze was saying that she had quite an optimistic
thought...
Pretending not to notice, Sophia continued, âIf you don't speak, I'll take
it as your agreement.â
Without waiting for Ayan's response, she turned around and
immediately went up on stage.
The opening ceremony lasted for nearly two hours. After it ended,
everyone moved to the lunch gathering, which took place at the Dane
City Hotel across the street from where Camille and Ayan were staying.
Besides the meal, there was also a daytime reception.
This project received a lot of attention in Dane, and the media was also
promoting it extensively. The project had the potential to become a
landmark building in Dane in the future, so its popularity couldn't be
underestimated. The people attending the reception were influential
figures in Dane's high society.
Introduced by Sophia, Ayan met many respected individuals in Dane.
During this time, Camille naturally didn't accompany him. Instead, she
chose to rest in the lounge area for a while.
Dan approached her with a glass of juice in hand. He handed it to
Camille and sat in the vacant seat opposite her, asking, âWhy are you
staying here alone? Don't you want to accompany Mr. Simpson to
socialize with others?"
Camille shook her head, saying, âI'm not interested in these things.
Talking to people is exhausting. Perhaps that's one of the main reasons
why I'm not suited for managing a company.â
Before, it had always been Preston who handled the external
connections of their business. Only when she had to step up herself did
she realize how challenging it truly was.
So she wasn't too keen on being in the spotlight, as she lacked
experience in that area. She admired Sophia for her ease and
excellence in such situations.
Camille and Dan both glanced at Sophia and Ayan among the crowd.
Dan smiled, faintly, in response to her words and said, "But with your
abilities, you don't need to socialize."
Camille furrowed her brows slightly and looked at Dan, asking, "I won't
buy it. Which one of them isn't more capable than me?"
"That's different.â
"How is it different?"
âThey are capitalists, and you are an artist. They are completely in a
different league. So how can you guys be compared?" Dan smiled
lightly.
