Chapter 856: Boundaries
Preston didn't explain this to Molly. He simply left the hospital with her,
and what happened afterward is unknown.
At this moment, Ayan showed Camille the video as well and asked,
"What do you think their relationship is?"
Camille furrowed her brows, showing her confusion. She shook her
head and replied softly, âI don't know. But can such coincidences really
happen in the world?"
She thought they were just working together, unaware of the deeper
connection between them.
Ayan put down his phone and had a brief conversation with Camille. He
said, "Maybe it's just a coincidence, but I don't think such a coincidence
should happen to Preston.â
"Because he's after the Simpson family, so you think this kind of
coincidence is unlikely?"
"Yeah."
He didn't hide this from Camille.
Camille sensed that too, so she analyzed it seriously. She softly asked,
"What do you think their relationship could be? Just based on their
interactions, do you think they knew each other from the orphanage or
later?"
"I think they knew each other a long time ago.â
"If they knew each other for a long time, would Eileen really be so
selfless as to risk helping him? What kind of relationship would make
that possible?" Camille asked from an observer's perspective because
she didn't believe that a person could be so selfless unless there was
some involvement, either money or emotions.
But she couldn't see any trace of emotion towards Preston from Eileen,
and Preston was the same.
So emotions were ruled out, leaving only money.
Considering Eileen's previous identity as a piano goddess, she wasn't
short of money. And later, she became an actress, so she wasn't broke
either. Unless Preston offered her an irresistible amount of money.
It must be an astronomical sum.
Setting aside whether Preston could have such an amount of money,
they should think about why Eileen would still go to Austin if she had
that money.
Could it be that she really likes him?
Knowing that Austin is a married man, although Cora wouldn't pose any
threat to her, why would she take such a risk for a relationship with no
future?
Camille voiced her doubts to Ayan, who remained silent throughout.
Camille raised her hand and waved it in front of his eyes, saying, "Why
aren't you saying anything?"
Ayan smirked, raised his hand, and held her hand in his palm. His voice
was gentle as he said, âI was thinking you're absolutely right. I have
thought about these questions, but not as thoroughly as you. Since
we've ruled out money and emotions, what else could make Eileen
keep the secret for Preston?"
"Yeah, what else? That's what I find so strange," Camille said while
playing with Ayan's fingers. His hands were slender and well-
proportioned, quite pleasing to the eye. She softly added, "You've been
with Eileen for so many years, and you haven't had the slightest
guess?"
Although he explained that he kept Eileen around solely because of her
connection to Preston, he hadn't figured out the exact nature of that
connection. How could he be so certain that Eileen was really helping
Preston against the Simpson family?
Of course, Camille didn't ask all these questions out loud. If she did,
Ayan would probably get annoyed, wouldn't he?
Just thinking about it made her want to laugh.
But Camille held back.
However, her inquiry about whether Ayan had any guesses behind her
words revealed other implications to Ayan. He held onto Camille's
hand, his gaze deep as he stared at her. "What guesses? Hm?"
His voice was low and husky, clearly understanding the meaning
behind Camille's words.
Camille didn't avoid his gaze. She met his eyes and said, "You were so
intimate with Eileen. Hasn't she revealed anything to you?"
"I'm intimate with her?"
"Don't you think so?" Camille snorted lightly and forcefully pulled her
hand away from his grasp. She said, "You were mean to me so many
times because of her, and you even brought her to live in Hanyama
Mansion. Aren't these considered being intimate?"
Camille stared at him with an unchanged expression, her eyes
revealing a hint of emotion. Ayan took it as evidence that she was
unhappy.
He didn't answer these questions or provide any explanation. He simply
asked, "Are you angry?"
Camille didn't speak, she just looked at him calmly.
Ayan's eyebrows furrowed, and his voice became husky. He said,
"Didn't I tell you before? I really have no feelings for Eileen. The only
reason I kept her around was to expose the person behind her."
âBut you didn't know back then that the person behind her was
Preston.â
"Although I didn't know it was Preston at the time, I always knew that
there was someone behind Eileen helping her deal with the Simpson
family. That's why I insisted on keeping Eileen within my sight, so I
could be aware of her actions in the first place. So please don't be
angry with me because of this. If she has caused you any grievances, I
apologize. Just tell me what I can do, alright?"
Ayan's voice was extremely hoarse as he patiently explained, afraid
that Camille wouldn't understand and get upset.
Camille didn't continue saying anything. She simply nodded lightly, but
she didn't tell Ayan that she wasn't actually angry from the beginning.
She was just teasing him. But since he was explaining so seriously
now, she naturally listened quietly. Whether she was genuinely angry or
not was no longer important.
Camille and Ayan discussed this topic for quite a while, making many
assumptions, but none of them could come to a definitive conclusion.
During the conversation, Kian called several times. Kian informed Ayan,
"I've contacted Sean. Sean learnt about Austin's situation and
immediately made a choice when he found him. He begged you for
help and said he's willing to do anything.â
"Then tell him that if he really wants my help, he should maintain
constant contact with Austin. Let Austin see him as a trump card
against Preston. After the incident at Norman Group, once Austin calms
down, he'll investigate who's been scheming against him. The most
suspicious person would be Preston, considering their close
relationship. The next step is to watch them fight each other.â
Ayan said nonchalantly. Preston must be preoccupied with arguing with
Molly because of Eileen and Zoie, so he wouldn't take long before
Austin approached him again. Ayan didn't need to do much now. He
would let Preston exhaust himself before considering their matters.
Ayan put down his phone, and Camille's voice followed. Camille asked,
"Will Sean really help someone against Preston, given their
relationship?"
"If their relationship was truly important, Preston wouldn't have shifted
all the blame to Sean or let things escalate to this point. So, the bond
between them as cousins isn't as deep as it seems.â
Ayan squinted his eyes slightly, a cold indifference flickering in his
gaze, especially when he mentioned Preston's name.
As for Camille, she didn't have many emotions left. The friendship
between her and Preston had already turned sour long ago. In fact, she
understood ever since Preston manipulated the project and caused
someone to lose her life to create trouble for Ayan. She knew that their
bond had reached its end. She just couldn't ignore his past devotion
and kindness, but all those good things gradually diminished over time,
and now she could clearly feel that there was little left.
She pressed her lips together and looked at Ayan. A faint smile
flickered in the depths of her eyes. In her heart, she silently told herself
that drawing boundaries was the best choice for everyone.
She savored Ayan's words from earlier, and a sudden thought popped
into her mind. When this thought emerged, she froze, an expression of
disbelief crossing her face. She furrowed her brows, looking astonished
at Ayan.
Her reaction was too obvious and abrupt, catching Ayan's attention. In
a deep and low voice, he asked, "What's wrong?"
