Chapter 831: Alone
The interlude between Camille and Preston came to an end as she
entered the meeting room. Since Camille would be taking a break
starting tomorrow, she informed the other architects in advance and
then messaged Jenson to request her time off.
Jenson undoubtedly approved her request, but the other architects
were somewhat surprised and asked, "Miss Armstrong, why are you
suddenly taking a break? Is something wrong?"
Camille smiled and replied, "Nothing is wrong. Don't worry. I simply feel
that I've been working too much lately and want to take a good rest.
Besides, I have a friend in another city, and I can visit her for a couple
of days.â
"Enjoy your trip. You must be going with Mr. Simpson, right?"
Camille remained silent and simply smiled, looking kindly at everyone.
Her reaction naturally confirmed their assumptions.
The group smiled back and wished Camille a great time with Ayan.
Some even sighed, wondering when they would find a considerate man
like Ayan. Of course, they didn't expect to match his wealth and status,
but someone who treated his wife well apart from appearances would
be close enough.
In the current society, it felt like there were too many traps, and most
girls were hesitant to fall in love.
So, except for Camille, the architects were all single. Summer sighed
and said, "I'm going to work hard now and save money. When I'm older
and my family starts pressuring me to get married, I'll find a younger
man. Younger men are so refreshing, obedient, and they know how to
make me happy."
The others agreed with Summer's statement because most men their
age were either married or had girlfriends. Otherwise, they would look
for slightly younger girlfriends, or there were the dislikeable men.
While discussing this topic, it was inevitable to ask Camille about Ayan.
As Ayan was far away from them, although Camille was his wife, she
was friendly and approachable, so everyone didn't feel much distance.
Especially after getting to know Camille and finding her gentle and easy
to talk to, they became bolder.
Sophie asked softly, "Miss Armstrong, how did you meet Mr. Simpson?
He seems very attached to you, picking you up to and from work. Does
he behave the same way in private?"
This was the first time someone besides Sienna inquired about Camille
and Ayan's relationship and how they got along with each other.
It felt like friends casually chatting about their boyfriends and husbands
when they had nothing better to do.
Camille didn't reject the question and, after all, it was Ayan. So, she
had no intention of refusing to answer. She smiled lightly, glanced at
them warmly, and said, "We have an arranged marriage. You might
have heard something about it, right? In fact, I knew him even before
our marriage, but he still doesn't know, and I don't plan to tell him. So,
please keep it a secret!"
The group immediately became curious and eager for gossip, hastily
raising their hands to promise, "Don't worry, we won't say anything.
We're on your side."
After all, they might not have a chance in their lifetime to meet Ayan
alone and have a conversation.
Their reaction made Camille unable to resist laughing. She continued,
âThank you!"
Summer continued with another question, "Miss Armstrong, since you
knew Mr. Simpson earlier, were you secretly in love with him?"
Camille furrowed her brows slightly, carefully considering how to
answer. As a result, she remained briefly silent.
Her expression made everyone think she was unable to answer, so
Summer quickly added, "Miss Armstrong, if you find it inconvenient, you
don't have to tell us."
âIt's not that it's inconvenient. It's just that I don't know how to put it into
words," Camille relaxed her demeanor, her smile gentle yet faint. She
continued, "He has always been outstanding, and many people like
him. So naturally, I'm no exception. But my liking for him wasn't blatant
because there was a significant gap between us back then. Also, due to
some family matters, I felt insecure and lacked confidence. I believed
the person who deserved to stand by his side must be the most
outstanding one, but that person wasn't going to be me."
"So Miss Armstrong had a crush on Mr. Simpson? And Mr. Simpson still
doesn't know?"
"Well, you could say that,â Camille admitted frankly.
This was the first time she openly admitted her feelings for Ayan. She
hadn't even confessed to Preston herself; he had discovered her
feelings on his own. Sienna was the one she confided in later, after
they had become close friends. So, apart from these two, it was the first
time Camille had admitted her feelings in front of her colleagues and
people who didn't know her well.
It felt a bit like being caught with a crush by a classmate when you were
first falling in love-a little nervous and a little thrilling.
Overall, the experience seemed quite good.
Camille's response surprised everyone because it was unexpected that
such a beautiful girl like Camille would have a secret crush on
someone, even if the person she liked was Ayan, a man at the pinnacle
of success. It was still surprising because Camille gave off an aura of
aloofness and distance. One would think that someone like her
wouldn't develop deep feelings for just anyone but would instead fall
head over heels for someone equally attractive and outstanding!
There was silence for a while before everyone snapped out of their
daze. They all expressed their amazement, saying, "Loving someone
secretly is truly requiring courage. But it's great that you and Mr.
Simpson have finally come together. We're genuinely happy for you
and hope you'll be forever happy. We wish you have your own children
and a lifetime of happiness ."
Summer sincerely wished it. She was so moved that her eyes started to
well up, matching Yessica's reaction.
Camille and the others couldn't help but laugh in unison. Camille spoke
softly, "Thank you for your kind words, but I don't really want a second
child. I already have one, you know!"
Her response triggered even more laughter, and Summer was the only
one who realized belatedly what Camille meant. She felt a bit
embarrassed and said, "Oops, sorry. I was a bit nervous and didn't
think it through. 1..."
âIt's okay," Camille shook her head, reassuring Summer that it was fine.
After all, ignorance is bliss. Besides, after giving birth to Timmy, there
were times when Camille herself subconsciously forgot that she had a
child. Upon reflection, it did feel a bit disrespectful to Timmy.
They continued to chat harmoniously for a while, and Jolie remarked
that this kind of atmosphere was the epitome of a harmonious
workplace. It was much more enjoyable than those workplaces filled
with calculating and scheming individuals.
After their conversation, they finished up the remaining work and were
almost ready to wrap up for the afternoon. Camille announced to
everyone, "If there's anything you need me to do, let me know in the
group chat. I have my laptop with me at all times. I may not be able to
work on-site with you, but I can handle anything else."
The others replied, "No need, just rest well. If there's something we
truly can't handle, we might trouble you, but we hope we won't have to
disturb your private time with Mr. Simpson!"
Perhaps due to the incident involving Louise and Amber, everyone had
started to get along happily. There was less backstabbing and no more
snide remarks. They didn't see Camille's special status as a reason for
harboring ulterior motives.
At this moment, this kind of interaction in the workplace was probably
the best, right?
Camille had a good rapport with everyone, and her mood improved.
Meanwhile, Ayan also received good news. As soon as he arrived at
the company, his phone rang.
It was Kian calling.
On the call, Kian reported, "Mr. Simpson, Mr. Davalos and Mr. Moya
have contacted me proactively. They are willing to collaborate with us.â
