Chapter 818: Karaoke Enthusiasts

“It's different, how can it be the same? It's completely different!"

Preston seemed extremely agitated, denying it while moving closer to

Camille. His gaze was fixed on her as he said, "Cami, it's not the same

at all. It was Ayan who punched me. Why are you apologizing for him?

Even if an apology is necessary, it should come from him, not you."

"Preston, there's no difference. If you feel that you need to apologize

for this matter to be resolved, then I can apologize on behalf of Ayan."

“I'm not telling you all this so you can apologize on his behalf, Cami.

That's not what I meant. I never thought that way. I'm telling you all this

because I want you to know that I didn't hurt you. I don't want any

misunderstandings between us. What Austin has done towards you

made me suspicious only after Ayan left. Don't worry. Not only can

Ayan seek justice for you, but I can too. Whatever he can do, I... I can

do as well as your friend. I want you to know that you have not just him.

You have me as a good friend. Although there are some

misunderstandings between us now, I promise we can reconcile and be

as good as before. Cami, do you believe me?"

Preston's intense emotions had left Camille speechless and confused.

She furrowed her brow tightly, her facial expression stiffening.

Especially his extreme choice of words, it truly left Camille at a loss.

Camille tightly pursed her lips and spoke with a low, hoarse voice,

"Preston, if that's how you think, then I truly don't know what else to

say. Ayan punched you because of me, but I don't deny that he was

wrong. After all, using the excuse of worrying about me and losing

rationality is just an excuse. We should not impose these excuses on

others. That's why I'm apologizing to you. The reason I'm apologizing to

you is also because we're husband and wife, and as a couple, we are a

unit. So I have the right to do so. Of course, you can refuse to accept

my apology. It's your choice, your right.” Camille said calmly and didn't

look at Preston anymore. The indifference on her face grew more

apparent as she said, "It's getting late. It won't be good if we're too

late.”

She didn't want any unnecessary topics to be brought up during this

troubled time. Such conversations would probably be quite

bothersome.

Ayan had done a lot for her, and if other rumors or gossip were to be

involved, it would be embarrassing to face him. Even the confidence to

continue enjoying the feeling of being pursued by Ayan would probably

be lost.

Of course, the last sentence was just a joke. Ultimately, she simply

didn't want any rumors to spread about her and cause unnecessary

discussions.

After finishing her words, Camille prepared to leave, but Preston

grabbed her hand.

Preston's face darkened, and he asked, "Cami, so you've entangled

yourself in this again, right? Why are you lying to me? You clearly

promised to divorce him. Why can't you keep your word? Is Ayan really

that great?"

"Preston, I did say those words, but I didn't lie to you. We haven't

reached a point of no return between us, so..."

"What do you mean by a point of no return?"

"I don't know how to say this to you, but this is my business, and I have

the ability to make my own judgments, so please don't interfere, okay?"

Camille forcefully pulled her hand away, her expression cold and

displeased. She didn't want to continue this argument with Preston

because every time they talked privately, it always ended unhappily in

the same way.

He didn't want to accept what she said, nor did he want to acknowledge

it. So Camille had no interest in continuing the conversation.

It served no purpose and had no meaning.

She had repeated certain things so many times before, and each time

felt like a repetition, which annoyed her.

She walked briskly towards her car and opened the door, getting inside

and driving away from the parking garage with Preston watching.

Camille arrived about fifteen minutes late, but no one questioned her as

the dishes were served soon after.

As for Preston, when Jenson was about to enjoy the meal, he received

a phone call.

It was from Preston.

He told Jenson, “I have something else to take care of, I won't be

coming over. Today's meal is on me, so enjoy yourselves without

hesitation."

Jenson relayed the message to everyone, and they all cheered and

raised their glasses, saying, "Long live Mr. Baxter!"

Without Preston around, Camille could relax a little.

Except for Jenson and his secretary, all the architects present were

female, so they enjoyed some moderately strong red wine. As they

drank and talked, the atmosphere became more relaxed.

They chatted about various topics, and Sophie, a little carried away by

the alcohol, couldn't help but exclaim, "I was really scared by Louise's

death. Fortunately, we didn't give her trouble. Otherwise, I would feel so

guilty!

Everyone nodded in agreement, and then Summer suddenly asked

Camille, "Miss Armstrong, are you scared?"

Camille smiled faintly and replied, "Why should I be scared? Only those

who have wronged her would feel scared. Those who have done

nothing wrong wouldn't feel scared at all!"

Everyone nodded in agreement again and raised their glasses, saying,

"You're right, Miss Armstrong. Let's toast to doing nothing wrong!"

They clinked glasses and continued discussing other topics.

After the meal, it was still early, and they had the afternoon off, so

Jenson invited them to go karaoke singing.

Sophie and another architect were typical karaoke enthusiasts who

couldn't stop once they started.

Camille sat in a corner, quietly listening to the songs. Jenson poured

her a glass of orange juice and handed it to her, saying, "Miss

Armstrong, don't you want to sing?"

Camille shook her head and smiled lightly, saying, "Others sing for

money, but I sing for taking away others’ lives. So, no thanks."

Jenson chuckled at her response, but his attitude toward Camille

became somewhat distant. It wasn't simply about keeping his distance

from her; it carried a certain level of respect. This feeling had arisen in

Camille before, and every time it was intense.

Camille furrowed her brow and tilted her head, gazing at Jenson

intently. She asked, "Mr. Evans, are you... a little scared of me?"

Jenson hesitated for a moment but quickly smiled and said, "Why

would you say that, Miss Armstrong?"

"Because I always feel like you're a bit afraid of me."

"Could it be because Miss Armstrong is so outstanding, and I have

developed admiration for you?"

“Is that so?" Camille clearly didn't believe him.

Jenson smiled faintly and replied, "Of course, why would I be afraid of

Miss Armstrong?"

Yeah, why would he be afraid of her? She wasn't a monster who

devoured people, so why would he fear her?

Camille didn't continue thinking about it, but Jenson didn't dare to

continue the conversation either. He excused himself under the

pretense of taking a phone call and left the private room.

After Jenson left, Camille felt a bit bored. The two karaoke enthusiasts

engaged in an intense singing battle, unable to stop, while interacting

with others. Perhaps due to Camille's status, they didn't dare to target

her, which spared her from any inconvenience.

Camille smiled and watched them happily, taking out her phone to

browse Twitter and forums.

While scrolling through Twitter, she came across a piece of news that

piqued her curiosity. She clicked on it and read the following content:

"Shocking!!! My cousin works at a club, and according to him, two men

offended the boss and were drugged and handed over to another pair

of men for punishment. It's said that things got gruesome!!!"

The comments below the news made Camille widen her eyes, but an

idea also popped into her mind.

After everyone dispersed from the karaoke session, she drove directly

to the Simpson Group.

Since she didn't need to go to the company in the afternoon, and

Timmy and Talia had gone to a resort in the outskirts, she found it

would be boring to be alone at home. So, she decided to go directly to

Ayan's office.

As she reached the floor where Ayan's office was located, she heard a

woman's coquettish voice from inside, saying, "Kian, just tell me when

Mr. Simpson will be available?!"
