Chapter 774: Pretense
Is it because it's too sweet that you feel compelled to share?
Sienna said, "I think you're just trying to show off how in love you are
with Ayan and intentionally making me jealous. With that man by your
side, you have totally forgot about me. Camille, you wicked woman! I
hate you!"
Sienna was getting more and more hilariously upset the more she
thought about it, especially since Mario had been driving her crazy
lately.
She sniffled and continued venting: "Camille, are you deliberately trying
to make me angry? Are you making me envy your relationship with
Ayan? You wicked woman! Just wait for me; I'm going to buy a plane
ticket right now and come find you in Hance City."
âYou're coming back now? But didn't you say that before returning
home from Flento City, everything needed to be resolved first? If Rex
thinks that these things have been resolved, won't he feel
disappointed?"
"Camille!!!" Sienna was starting to feel frustrated.
Camille quickly apologized: "I'm sorry; I just wanted to talk about it with
someone. I really didn't mean any harm or bragging."
"Well, then come see me in Flento City so we can hang out.â
Camille fell silent; she had fallen into Sienna'âs trap.
This woman was deliberately playing the victim card.
Camille said: "It's getting late; let's stop here for today. I'm tired."
"Cami, please come see me soon. I've been really annoyed lately. I've
started working at King Group. Every day Mario is around me, and his
ex-fiancée always comes to me and akeds me to persuade him to go
backto her. You don't know how close I am losing my mind," Sienna
said.
Thinking about those things made her even more irritable than usual.
She felt like she might be falling into depression soon if something
didn't change soon enough.
She talked much about what happened recently. Although they were
trivial, Camille could still sense the immense pressure weighing down
on her.
"Do you want me to talk to Rex so he can go and accompany you?"
asked Camilla.
"No need," replied Sienna firmly. "We agreed this time around that this
is something only I can handle myself."
"Well then, let me check on my project progress before giving a specific
date to visit you."
âYou are such a good friend who won't leave me behind during tough
times," exclaimed Sienna happily, knowing full well how much better life
would be once Camilla came to keep her in company. Even if only
briefly, half a day or less would suffice as long as there's someone
close by whom she trusts implicitly.
Camille comforted her, "Don't push yourself too hard. You've done
enough for the King family."
âI understand. Actually, I don't feel like I owe the King family anything,
because I never intended to abandon them, just because they raised
me up. If there's ever a time when the King family needs me, I'll give it
my all. I just want to resolve things between Mario and me. I want him
to know that we can't go back anymore."
If Mario doesn't agree, he will definitely cause trouble for her and hurt
Rex, which she cannot accept or forgive herself for.
After chatting with Camille for a while and feeling slightly better, Sienna
ended the call since it was getting late.
However, she couldn't sleep at all throughout the night since returning
to Flento City; most nights were spent relying on alcohol and sleeping
pills.
But she didn't tell anyone about it; she didn't want those who cared
about her to worry. So everything was digested alone by herself.
After putting down her phone, Sienna still couldn't fall asleep; instead
she sat by the window staring outside in a daze as tears streamed
down her face.
She was strong enough to bear all sadness and worries alone while
being good at managing emotions without revealing them except in
front of close friends or loved ones.
That night Sienna stayed up very late before finally falling asleep only
to be woken up early by a phone call next morning.
Without looking at who called on her phone screen, she held it close
against ear with eyes closed: "Hello?"
"Aren't you up yet?" A man's deep voice came through from the other
end of phone speaker
His voice hit both ears as well as brain directly, making Sienna
suddenly awake but also immediately sit up from bed.
She opened wide eyes looking around dim room before hoarsely
asking: "What's going on?"
"Come downstairs," he said simply but firmly.
âI'm not ready yet. You go ahead, I can drive myself later. You don't
need to come to pick me up, I still know the way to the company,â
replied Sienna coldly, with an expression that showed resistance
towards his request. But the man didn't seem to have listened to her at
all, and just continued saying, "Half an hour is enough. If you still
haven't come down after half an hour, then I'll have to go up myself.
Sienna, let's not fight early in the morning, okay?"
Sienna pursed her lips tightly and took a deep breath without making a
sound. Her expression was extremely cold, and the call had already
been hung up on the other end. She weakly threw her phone onto the
bed and covered her face with both hands for almost half a minute
before finally getting out of bed.
After tidying up briefly and changing clothes, she left.
It had only been about twenty minutes.
As soon as she left the apartment building, she saw a black Mercedes
parked at the entrance. She bit her lip slightly and took a deep breath
as if summoning great courage before walking over to open the
passenger door.
The man in the driver's seat was answering his phone but looked over
when he saw her get into the car. After she fastened her seatbelt, his
call ended too.
Instead of immediately starting up the car, though, he turned sideways
from his seat in back and handed Sienna a sandwich: "Breakfast."
Sienna frowned slightly, but didn't reach out immediately. She gave him
probing glances that prompted him to look back at her with dark eyes.
Carrying some pressure as he said: "Sienna? Are you trying to tell me
you want me to feed you?"
Only then did Sienna reach out for it: âThank you."
"You're welcome."
"But I don't eat breakfast normally, so don't bring it next time, please.
Also, I have a car. I can go to the office by myself. You don't have to
pick me up,â she repeated what she'd said on their call earlier, trying
hard to distance herself from him.
The man quirked his lips slightly before looking calmly at Sienna:
âYou're my secretary now, also part of the Kings, so there's no problem
with us going together like this. If you don't want to see me though... I'm
sorry, but I can hardly do anything about that.â
Silently cursing Mario inside herself again for being such an asshole
who never cared about anyone else's feelings while doing anything,
Sienna struggled with emotions hidden within herself before speaking
slowly: "Doesn't it mean that even my freedom or personal space are
lost now? Or are you going to force me to live with you in a little while?
That way, you'll completely take over my work and personal space, Mr.
King. You're really annoying like that. I'm an individual human, not your
plaything. I need my own freedom and space too. You're really starting
to annoy me now. I've already agreed to work at King Group, isn't that
enough?"
Sienna's emotions were getting out of control as she spoke, her face
full of anger because she had just woken up and her fair complexion
was flushed with redness. She didn't know how tempting she looked
right now.
Mario remained calm as he cleared his throat slightly and his deep
eyes narrowed under his eyelids as he asked in a low voice, "Are we
no longer pretending?"
