Chapter 1298: Discontent
Ayan didn't see Camille until the second day, but she immediately
contacted her to check if she was feeling alright. However, Camille had
already adjusted her mood and had no discomfort. She just told Ayan
that she wasn't feeling well and wanted to indulge in a good meal with
Sienna.
That evening, Camille was in a good mood. After having a drink and
taking a shower, she fell asleep. Both Camille and Sienna slept in the
guest room, drawing the curtains and sleeping until late morning.
Their phones kept ringing incessantly, but they were both in such a
deep sleep that they didn't wake up. Eventually, they had to call the
villa and ask the nanny to wake them up. It was Yessica who called and
asked anxiously, "Why didn't you two answer the phone?"
"We were sleeping.â
"Are you sleeping together?"
"Yes." Camille felt a heaviness in her head and a lightness in her body.
It was probably the aftermath of drinking. She hadn't had alcohol in a
long time, and although she didn't drink much last night, she still had a
bit of a headache.
Yessica said, "Are you coming to the office today?"
"Is there something important?â
"Yes, there's a small matter. You asked me to talk to Quintus about
contacting Jenson, and it worked. Quintus actually went to see Jenson
and started working under him. Jenson's secretary told me that some of
the tasks given to him are important and easily discoverable. If Quintus
leaks any information, they will definitely find out immediately.â
"Alright, I understand,â Camille replied, raising her hand to rub her
head. She got out of bed and pulled open the curtains, letting the warm
sunlight shine through the window. It felt comfortable yet glaring.
Sienna, who was still in bed, turned over and woke up.
She stretched lazily and asked in a drowsy voice, "What time is it?"
âIt's past ten," Camille responded lightly, then said to Yessica on the
phone, âLet's talk about this matter when I come to the office later!"
"Are you coming now?"
"Yes."
âThen I'll order lunch for you?"
"Okay."
"Alright, see you later.â Yessica whispered and ended the call.
Camille tilted her neck back and looked at Yessica, saying, "Don't make
me drink next time. It's really exhausting.â
Sienna felt the same way. She hadn't actually drunk much because
they were trying to conceive, just had a little sip.
After a quick wash, Sienna ran to the next room to change her clothes,
and then they both set off for the office.
As they drove out from Franklin Bay, Camille's gaze swept around,
becoming suspicious whenever she saw some ordinary cars. She
looked left and right, her face filled with caution and speculation. This
made Sienna a little nervous, so she asked, "What are you looking at?"
âI'm checking if Preston is here."
"He wouldn't be that bored, right?"
âYou're wrong. He is a very boring person.â Otherwise, he wouldn't
have asked for Ayan's itinerary.
However, they didn't see any suspicious vehicles along the way. They
arrived at the company smoothly, and Camille went back to her office.
Lunchtime was still half an hour away, so Camille could attend to some
work matters.
Yessica also immediately came to the office and explained Quintusâ
situation in detail again. Camille said, "Tell Jenson's secretary to keep
an eye on Quintus, especially the people he's in contact with. I need to
know all the details. If it's related to Preston, make sure to inform me as
soon as possible.â
Preston operated in the shadows, making all his moves invisible.
Camille was doing this just in case Quintus had any connection with
Preston, so she could be the first to know what Preston was planning
next.
After explaining all this, Camille's worries and speculations didn't
diminish much. Soon, lunchtime arrived. Since she arrived late, there
were still some things she needed to take care of, so everyone didn't
gather together to eat. Instead, they ate in their respective offices, busy
with their own tasks. It was at this moment that Camille's phone rang.
Her initial reaction was a slight startle, and her first thought was that it
was Preston calling. Consequently, she was a bit slow, and it wasn't
until the corner of her eye caught sight of the caller ID, which was
neither Preston's name nor a familiar number, but a name with a note.
It was a call from the Armstrong family.
Camille furrowed her brows unconsciously, setting down her fork and
wiping her hands with a tissue. Only then did she casually pick up the
fork and answer the call, putting it on speakerphone. Her voice was
cool and indifferent as she said, "Hello!"
Camille's voice was low, hoarse, and devoid of warmth.
On the other end, Page's voice sounded, equally devoid of emotion.
She asked, "Do you know where Horace went?"
Camille paused for a moment and subconsciously pursed her lips. Of
course, she denied it. She said, "I don't know. How could I possibly
know his schedule? Isn't he at Armstrong Corp? So how could I know?"
Camille certainly wouldn't tell Page about Horace's itinerary with the
Armstrong family. However, Page didn't think that much. Since she
called Camille, it meant she was entrusting this matter to Camille. She
wanted Camille to find out where Horace had gone.
Page said, "I can't reach Horace. Could he have taken off with
something from the company? How can this be? Is he doing this on
purpose? This is a complete disregard for our trust in him, a complete
irresponsibility towards Armstrong Corp!"
Faced with Page's questioning, Camille also felt a headache coming
on. These questions were not something she should be dealing with
under any circumstances.
So Camille just listened and didn't intend to respond.
But Camille's indifference triggered an outburst of emotions from Page.
Page said, "Camille, what does your indifferent attitude mean? We're
talking about Armstrong Corp now. Shouldn't you take some
responsibility?!"
Page seemed anxious, but Camille remained composed, her face cold
to the extreme.
Without any waves in her eyes, she casually asked, "What
responsibility do I have? Armstrong Corp has nothing to do with me,
right? So where does my responsibility lie?"
Camille asked casually, her words setting off an explosion from Page.
Page said, "What do you mean it has nothing to do with you? Aren't you
named Armstrong? Aren't you part of the Armstrong family? Are you
deliberately trying to create a clear distinction now? You're also a
mother now. Can't you understand anything? Why do you have to make
such a clear separation? Would you be happy if your child were like
that?"
Page aggressively continued her questioning, word by word, filled with
intense inquiry. Although they were separated by the phone, Camille
clearly felt a strong anger coming at her from afar.
However, Camille was no longer the same Camille as before. She
didn't mind at all, and she didn't care in the slightest. She even
appeared indifferent.
She put her phone on speaker and set it aside, dealing with her work
while listening to Page's complaints and dissatisfaction. Camille's
reaction remained indifferent, and she didn't respond much to Page's
words, resulting in Page doing most of the talking throughout the entire
conversation while Camille remained silent.
This conversation continued for a while until Page realized that Camille
was just placating her. That was when she completely exploded.
