Chapter 1251: Darkness
Ayan's voice immediately came from the other end. His tone sounded
somewhat worried, "Have you arrived? Why haven't I seen you yet?"
Camille slightly pursed her lips, her face pale and weak. Her eyes
lacked any vitality, but her voice had to maintain a normal tone. She
whispered, "I'm home now. Just come back directly. I was about to go,
but I felt a bit unwell, so I took a taxi back home. I just arrived.â
The last three words were intentional.
She said them for Preston to hear. If Ayan knew she wasn't feeling well
and had already returned home, he would naturally instruct the nanny
to cook something for her or see if they needed to call the family doctor.
If the nanny didn't see her, she would immediately inform Ayan. Camille
knew this, and of course, Preston knew it too.
Their eyes met in the air, and Preston narrowed his eyes slightly,
probably guessing the meaning behind Camille's words.
However, he didn't say anything, just waited for Camille to finish the
call.
Upon hearing her mention feeling unwell, Ayan also sounded
concerned, "What's wrong?"
"Probably from drinking coffee. What about you? Are you coming
back?"
âYes, I'm on my way back."
"Okay, I'll have the nanny prepare dinner."
"Alright, wait for me. I'll be back soon," he whispered.
Camille replied, "Okay."
After ending the call, Camille tightly held her phone. Her gaze was
slightly dim as she looked at Preston and said, "Can I get off the car
now?"
Preston's expression remained indifferent. He squinted his eyes
slightly, a faint smile appearing at the corners of his mouth. He said,
"Cami, why do you need to be so guarded against me? Since I've
brought you here, I obviously won't do anything to you."
"But don't forget what you just promised me. If you don't show up when
I need your cooperation or if you tell Ayan what I said, I'm sorry, but I
will definitely go and find Timmy. Furthermore, no one knows about me
taking Timmy today, so I suggest you don't inquire too much because it
won't benefit you."
Realizing that Camille wouldn't consider him a friend anymore,
Preston's tone lost the friendly attitude he had before. His words were
filled with threats, and his gaze stared deeply at Camille. Without
waiting for her to speak, he spoke again, "Alright, get off the car now. If
needed, I will contact you."
Camille naturally didn't linger. She took a glance at Preston and then
pushed open the car door to get out.
Preston didn't stay long and drove away.
Camille stood still without moving, her eyes fixed in one place. She
didn't know how long she had been standing there because her mind
was filled with the conversation she just had with Preston.
Did Preston go through all this trouble just to threaten her into
cooperating with him?
And what kind of cooperation did he mean? Was it directed against
Ayan and the Simpson family?
It must be, otherwise, why would he go through so much trouble to find
her?
Camille's expression became particularly solemn. The more she
thought about it, the darker her face became, especially when she
thought about Timmy. Her heart couldn't help but ache.
She actually wanted to call Talia directly to ask about Timmy, but she
thought of Preston's words and didn't dare to act rashly. Now she was
in the light, while Preston was in the dark.
Did Preston see everything she did? Camille's complexion became
even more unsightly the more she thought about it.
This went on for a long time until Ayan's car stopped in front of her. His
deep voice followed, "Cami!!"
Ayan frowned slightly, and he had already gotten out of the car. He
walked directly to Camille, lowered his gaze, and asked, "Why are you
standing here?"
Camille raised her eyes to meet his gaze and then voluntarily reached
out her hand, burying herself in his embrace.
Camille's mood was very low. Before seeing Ayan, she could continue
to speculate about Preston's motives, but after seeing Ayan, all her
strength turned into water.
Her eyes turned red, her emotions were in a terrible state, she tightly
pursed her lips, and her complexion was extremely unsightly. She held
onto Ayan tightly, not wanting to let go for a moment.
Sensing her abnormality, Ayan also gently held her and asked in a
gentle voice, "What's wrong?"
Camille pressed her lips together and didn't speak. Ayan didn't ask
further, just quietly accompanying her. They stayed like this for a while
before Camille voluntarily came out of his embrace.
The two of them looked into each other's eyes like that. Camille didn't
explain what was wrong with her, she just said, âI'm hungry, let's go in!"
Ayan nodded and held her hand, then they entered the house together.
Her mood was still very bad, but she had adjusted it to some extent. At
the same time, she didn't want Ayan to notice any abnormalities, so she
deliberately disguised herself.
Ayan could guess some of her thoughts, but he didn't know the exact
reason behind them.
The meal was eaten in complete silence, so quiet that only the sound of
chewing could be heard. Camille ate only half of what she usually ate,
and she put down her utensils without finishing her rice. She said, "I'm
full.â
Ayan nodded lightly and didn't force her. He just took another bowl,
filled it with soup, and pushed it in front of her, saying, "Finish it."
There was no room for negotiation, which made Camille slightly
stunned, and her gaze at him became slightly dazed.
Camille didn't refuse and obediently picked up the bowl to drink the
soup.
Then she sat on the chair and didn't want to move. Seeing her listless
appearance, Ayan couldn't help but ask, "Do you want to take a walk?"
Camille shook her head, "I want to rest for a while."
"Just now you said you're not feeling well. What exactly is bothering
you? Should I call the doctor to come and check?"
âNo need, I'm feeling much better now. Maybe I was just too tired.â
Camille casually found an excuse, feeling particularly conflicted inside.
She sighed silently and continued talking to Ayan, "You go about your
business, I'll go upstairs and lie down for a while, and maybe have a
video call with Timmy."
Ayan, of course, wouldn't refuse. However, his pitch-black eyes
continued to gaze at Camille. His gaze was like that of a hawk, making
people unable to help but feel guilty.
Camille discreetly averted her eyes, not meeting Ayan's gaze. But Ayan
asked, "What's really going on? Are you really not planning to tell me?"
There was a hint of warning in his words, as if telling her that if she
didn't speak up, he could easily find out for himself.
Camille pressed her lips together. In fact, she wanted Ayan to discover
it on his own because that would allow him to investigate what Preston
was up to. But they were in the open, and if Preston found out that
Ayan also knew about today's events, would Preston, with his sinister
nature, resort to extreme measures?
The more Camille thought about it, the more worries filled her heart. In
the end, she didn't dare to continue thinking about it.
Camille lifted her eyes again, meeting Ayan's gaze. Her gaze was calm
and devoid of any abnormalities. She whispered, "There's nothing
wrong. I just had a disagreement with Sienna today about work, and we
said some sharp words. Now I'm reflecting on it."
