Chapter 1213: Graceful Appearance
Horace's words didn't offend anyone. He simply expressed his
perspective as an onlooker regarding Mr. Nores's proposal. Naturally,
this didn't give Mr. Nores or Ayan any reason to object.
Instead, Mr. Nores followed up on Horace's words, explaining further,
âIndeed, my intention is to strengthen the cooperative relationship with
Mr. Simpson. However, Mr. Simpson shouldn't feel any pressure.
Primarily, I'm doing this for myself. Although it has been passed down
through generations, we have never found a suitable opportunity to sell
it. It just so happens that I want to take advantage of Mr. Simpson's
charity event. I hope Mr. Simpson can give me a chance.â
Ayan remained silent, his expression showing no emotions. It was
unclear what he was thinking.
Observing Ayan's reaction, Camille instinctively reached out and
tugged at Ayan's sleeve, their eyes meeting. Only then did Ayan calmly
say, "If Mr. Nores has made up his mind, then he should coordinate
with my secretary. I've entrusted the company's team to handle this
auction. Everything should proceed according to proper procedures."
Ayan's final mention of following proper procedures was a reminder to
Mr. Nores that even if they discussed it privately and the diamond was
so valuable, they still needed to abide by the rules. Every item at the
auction carries responsibility and risks, even if it is organized by the
Simpson Group. There can be no room for carelessness, considering
the immense value of each auction item.
Mr. Nores nodded promptly in response, saying, "Of course."
Ayan's apparent concession excited Mr. Nores even more. However,
only Camille knew that Ayan hadn't truly given in. Instead, she sensed
a reluctance to accept Mr. Nores's proposal.
But it wasn't the right time to ask about it. Camille planned to discuss it
with Ayan on their way back.
Since everyone had finished eating, they moved from the dining table
to the nearby sofa to drink tea and chat. Mr. Nores personally brewed
the tea, bypassing the tea artist. Camille wasn't particularly interested
in tea, but the dishes tonight suited her taste, so she felt quite full and
planned to take a stroll outside.
As Camille stood up to leave the private room, Alicia also got up and
followed suit.
Standing at the end of the corridor, Camille gazed out of the floor-to-
ceiling windows at the night lights outside. From this position, she could
see the riverside of Flento City, and the night view was quite beautiful
with its captivating lights.
Camille was about to raise her phone to take a picture and send it to
Sienna. She also planned to tell Sienna about her conversation with
Mario at the dinner table tonight. However, before she could take the
photo, she heard Alicia's voice from behind.
"Camille!"
Alicia called out her name directly, her eyes filled with a provocative
gaze as she looked at Camille.
Camille turned around, meeting Alicia's unfriendly gaze. With a hint of
coldness, she asked, "What's the matter?"
Alicia continued to approach Camille, finally stopping a couple of steps
away from her.
She was wearing high heels today, so naturally, she was slightly taller
than Camille, who was wearing flat shoes. Her overall appearance
exuded a strong aura, making her quite imposing.
However, Camille showed no signs of retreat or fear. Instead, she lifted
her gaze slightly and looked at Alicia.
She didn't speak, and Camille naturally didn't take the initiative to speak
either. So the two of them just stood there, silently locking eyes with
each other.
After about ten seconds or so, Alicia raised her hands and crossed
them in front of her chest. She raised an eyebrow and smiled, saying,
"During dinner earlier, I noticed that you didn't say much. Do you feel
like you don't fit in at all? Well, it's understandable. After all, your
company is so small and only responsible for the construction part.
Naturally, you wouldn't be familiar with the business cooperation
between the malls.â
"Are you concerned about me?" Camille widened her eyes and asked
softly.
Alicia was slightly taken aback, completely unexpected that Camille
would ask such a question.
She remained silent, and Camille tilted her head, staring at her, waiting
for an answer.
Seeing that she didn't speak for a while, Camille casually said, "I never
expected that someone from my small company would receive special
attention from Miss Nores. Honestly, Miss Nores, you don't have any
ulterior motives toward me, do you?"
Alicia frowned, seemingly surprised by Camille's response, her eyes
filled with astonishment.
Before Alicia could say anything, Camille spoke again, "Miss Nores, I
have no interest in you whatsoever, so you should just put away your
hidden agendas!"
After speaking, Camille smiled, her eyes filled with a profound meaning.
Alicia was completely ignited by Camille's words, her emotions even
becoming somewhat agitated. She said, "Camille, you really are a
woman from a small family. You don't understand at all what I'm talking
about. Didn't you already understand the gap between you and him
during this dinner? He deserves a better woman, and you simply don't
measure up!"
"Miss Nores, you really meddle in other people's lives, don't you? Who
do you think you are? Do you think I'm someone you can easily bully?
What does it have to do with you whether there's a gap between him
and me? I'm willing, and as for whether I measure up to him or not, do
you think you measure up to him? Do you believe that if I propose
tonight, your father's and your plans will be completely ruined? Don't
forget, one of them is from Armstrong Corp, one is my brother whom
I've known for years, and one is the father of my child, my ex-husband."
Camille smirked, her eyes filled with a cold and icy intent. She showed
no fear of Alicia's intentions and didn't take Alicia's words to heart.
She's not new to Ayan's abilities, nor is she new to not being involved in
Simpson Group's matters. So why should Alicia, an outsider who
appeared out of nowhere, feel entitled to meddle and give instructions?
As for her state of mind, of course she doesn't feel inferior. After all, she
didn't learn about all this only after being with Ayan. She knew about
Ayan's abilities from before, so she certainly doesn't feel unworthy of
him just because of that. She doesn't consider herself inferior to Ayan.
She took a deep breath, her gaze at Alicia becoming more piercing, but
she didn't say a word. She just gave a deep look and then turned
directly towards the private room.
But just as she took her first step, Alicia's voice rang out again:
"Camille, what are you so proud of? Do you think you can get away
with anything just because of your looks? But what about the future?
You can't give him anything, and he will eventually grow tired of you.â
Alicia said her piece, but she didn't forget to step forward and block
Camille's path.
Camille was truly annoyed because she didn't want to have a lengthy
conversation with Alicia at all. But Alicia insisted on getting in her face.
Camille maintained a composed expression, furrowing her brows, her
eyes showing deep disdain. She stared at Alicia and said in a
particularly cold tone, âThat's my business; you don't need to worry
about it. You better take care of yourself and stop fixating on other
people's men. Is that the upbringing you received from the Nores
family?"
âYou're already divorced, both of you are single. What's wrong with
competing based on our abilities?"
âIf you want to do something, go talk to him directly. Why do you have
to say it to me? Are you hoping I'll personally play matchmaker for you
two?" Camille was truly fed up. Alicia's words and actions had made
her quite displeased, and her mood was no longer as calm as before.
Feeling annoyed, she just wanted to leave the place immediately.
