Chapter 1205: Deception
Camille nodded gently, her expression becoming heavy. She said, "If
they let him go to the orphanage, then their relationship must be
extraordinary.â
âYeah, that's what I think too," Ayan nodded in agreement, appearing
like an obedient child. Camille sensed a hint of intentional playfulness
in his demeanor and reached out to pinch his waist, followed by a soft
hum.
Ayan lightly held her hand and spoke in a deep voice, "Do you have a
tiny bit of belief in the things Preston told you? Do you think I'm really
the person he described?"
"What do you think?" Camille asked, staring at him.
He seemed to ponder for a moment, then said lightly, "Of course, I
believe you won't."
âThen I won't," Camille replied.
"Really?" Ayan's eyes brightened with surprise. He didn't expect
Camille to be so decisive.
Camille smiled and said, "Of course it's true, Mr. Simpson. What's
wrong with you? Why have you become so lacking in confidence?"
Ayan feigned helplessness and said, "It's all because I care too much,
so I feel insecure. Madam Qi, when will you give me a proper status? I
just went to the hospital to chat with Grandfather for a while, and now
he only has eyes for you as his granddaughter-in-law. As for me, his
grandson, I'm completely dispensable.â
Every time Ayan talked about Grandfather, he would always wear a
jealous and indignant expression. But that kind of jealousy was just a
joke, not real. After all, he couldn't be jealous of her. Grandfather liked
her, and he was probably happier about it than anyone else.
So Camille understood that Ayan was just joking when he said those
things. Naturally, she played along and said, "Grandfather treats me
well and loves me, so he will only treat you well if you treat me well. If
you treat me badly, I guess Grandfather will throw away his precious
grandson and keep me as his granddaughter-in-law.â
After Camille finished speaking, Ayan fell silent and just smiled at her.
His gaze became deeper and more ambiguous, which made Camille
increasingly uncomfortable. Her body instinctively moved away to the
side, and her eyes dodged, trying to change the subject. She said, âThe
food is ready. Let's go eat first."
After saying that, Camille wanted to get up and leave, but Ayan firmly
held her back, his voice low as he said, "What are you running for? I'm
not going to do anything. Why are you blushing? Huh? What are you
thinking?"
Camille frowned, finding this person really wicked.
Camille decided to ignore him and wore a straight face, but Ayan
clearly had no intention of giving up until he was satisfied.
Their gazes locked in a standoff, but Camille remained silent.
In the end, it was Ayan who gave in. He said, "Alright, I won't tease you
anymore. Otherwise, if Grandfather finds out that I didn't feed his
granddaughter-in-law, he'll probably give me a hard time."
Listening to Ayan's words, Camille instinctively furrowed her brows and
let out a soft hum, âI haven't agreed to remarry you, so for now, I'm at
most Grandfather's granddaughter, and you're just the grandson he
picked up.â
âBut you said it just now. Why are you changing your mind now? That's
not being honest. Aren't you bullying me?" Ayan complained.
"I didn't say anything just now," Camille refused to admit it. After all, it
was embarrassing. How could she be so quick with her words? That
would mean admitting that they still had a husband and wife
relationship.
Hmph, she wouldn't let him have his way so easily.
But Camille didn't think she was being fake, because she was enjoying
the present moment. Even without that piece of paper, their relationship
was stable. On the contrary, when they had that piece of paper, they
were constantly on the verge of divorce.
After all, back then, it was only because she unilaterally liked Ayan, and
Ayan only had feelings for her because of Grandfather's arrangement.
Besides that, there were no other emotions between them. So Camille
didn't think there was any problem with their current interaction.
Moreover, Ayan didn't mind, and the Simpson family didn't mind either,
so it didn't matter whether others minded or thought she was
pretending.
The two of them chatted in the living room for a long time until the
housekeeper reminded them that the food was ready. They then went
to the dining room together.
Camille asked the housekeeper to bring some fruit tea and poured a
cup for Ayan. She said, "Try it, I made it myself. I know you don't like it
too sweet, so I used jasmine tea as the base. It tastes refreshing and
just right.â
Camille stared at Ayan expectantly as he took the half-filled cup of fruit
tea and brought it to his lips. The icy sensation immediately entered his
mouth, and the fragrance of the fruit and a hint of sweetness enveloped
his taste buds. In the end, there was a lingering scent of jasmine tea.
Ayan earnestly savored it and didn't give Camille a quick answer. It was
only when Camille asked, "How does it taste?" that he took another sip.
Then a faint smile appeared between his eyebrows, and he said, "It's
delicious, just the taste I like."
"Really?"
"Of course." He stared at Camille intently, signaling her to look into his
serious eyes. He wasn't lying.
Camille finally showed a happy smile.
The two of them continued eating in a relatively quiet atmosphere at the
dining table. Although they didn't talk much, their eyes interacted.
The atmosphere didn't feel boring; instead, it had a unique flavor.
After dinner, they followed their usual routine and went for a walk
together.
Camille first brought fruit tea to Sienna before continuing the walk hand
in hand with Ayan.
During the walk, Ayan received a call from Kian.
On the phone, Kian said, "Mr. Simpson, Preston has come out of the
orphanage. He didn't drive his own car, probably to avoid being noticed
by the people following him. He's driving a low-profile Wuling
Hongguang.â
Ayan asked expressionlessly, "Where is he going?"
"We don't know yet. I'm already tailing him."
"He's suspicious. Remember to change cars for surveillance. Don't let
the fish slip away again,â Ayan reminded in a calm voice.
Kian quickly acknowledged his instructions.
After hanging up the phone, Ayan's eyes were still filled with
speculation. What did Preston want to do? His face became serious
and grave, and Camille noticed it. She asked gently, "Ayan, what are
you thinking?"
Ayan's face was grim, and the coldness in his eyes was evident. He
didn't immediately answer Camille's question. After sighing heavily, he
finally spoke, âI'm thinking about where Preston could go."
"Are you worried that he might go crazy and do something?" Camille
asked.
"He probably doesn't have a place to go wild right now. I'm just worried
that he might visit the police station to see Eileen. However, Eileen
hasn't reached the stage of visitation yet, so if he wants to see Eileen,
he'll probably find a lawyer to bail her out.â
"After what Eileen said about him to the police today, if he really finds
Eileen, she probably won't have a good time, right?" Camille continued
the conversation, and at this moment, their gazes met. Camille asked
each word, "Ayan, are you worried about Eileen?"
