Chapter 1168: Compromise
Their eyes met, and his kiss followed suit.
The next morning, Kian drove to Franklin Bay to pick up Ayan for work.
Camille didn't join them; she planned to go out with Sienna later.
On the way, Kian drove, and Ayan sat in the back seat.
Suddenly, Ayan spoke, "Ask the person secretly protecting her where
she went yesterday.â
Ayan knew Camille very well, understanding all her actions and
behaviors. So, when Camille asked about Armstrong Corp and Horace
last night, Ayan had some suspicions.
His expression turned serious, and a clear coldness flickered in his
eyes.
Kian was taken aback by his words, and after a brief pause, he turned
to look at Ayan and whispered, "Mr. Simpson, is something wrong?"
"Find out first.â
Kian nodded to show he understood.
He couldn't afford any delay. Once they arrived at the office, he
immediately contacted the bodyguards secretly protecting Camille.
After getting the answers, he returned to the office to inform Ayan.
Kian spoke cautiously because he didn't know what had happened.
Considering the information from the bodyguards, he felt uneasy.
After Kian finished speaking, he lowered his gaze and asked Ayan
softly, "Mr. Simpson, Mrs. Simpson spent nearly an hour with Preston.
Nothing happened, right?"
Ayan squinted, and a cold smile appeared in his black-and-white eyes.
He said indifferently, "Noted."
He didn't answer Kian's question because he also didn't know what had
happened. As far as he could see, there was nothing wrong at the
moment. The only thing was that Camille was hiding something from
him when she met Preston. Of course, he didn't think Camille would do
anything to harm him; he was only concerned that she was keeping
something from him.
His eyes showed a touch of indifference, indicating how gloomy and
unpleasant his mood was at the moment.
Kian dared not even breathe. However, staying silent at a time like this
seemed inappropriate.
After careful consideration, Kian spoke softly, "Mr. Simpson, I've also
retrieved the surveillance footage from the café where Mrs. Simpson
met Preston. They were talking the entire time, but they were too far
apart, and there were other people and music in the café, so I couldn't
hear what they were saying. However, judging by their expressions,
Preston didn't look pleased. Mrs. Simpson probably said something
that didn't sit well with him."
Kian kept his eyes on Ayan throughout, not missing any changes in his
facial expressions. He thought Ayan might ease up after hearing this
information, but the coldness in his eyes deepened instead.
Ayan narrowed his eyes, a chilly glint appearing in them. His tone
became even colder as he said, "Didn't Mario invite me to meet? Let's
set it for tomorrow night.â
Kian was slightly stunned, apparently not expecting Ayan to change the
topic so suddenly.
Kian asked softly, "Mr. Simpson, about Preston, don't you plan to..."
"As you've already said, they just met to chat for a while. Since it's just
a conversation and Preston didn't look happy, it means Camille said
something displeasing to him. In that case, I don't need to do anything.
Besides, Mario is supposed to meet me, isn't he? Let's schedule it for
tomorrow night.â
Ayan knew Camille didn't want him to find out, or she wouldn't have
kept it so tightly guarded. The only thing that satisfied him was that she
learned to ensure her own interests and safety. Having Sienna
accompany her and arranging for Sienna to pick her up indicated a hint
of security awareness. It was better than her going alone.
Ayan shook his head in resignation. He realized he had lowered his
expectations more than he thought. As long as she was okay, and they
were okay, it was enough.
However, not caring about this matter didn't mean he wouldn't do
something about Preston. If Preston had time to meet Camille, he was
probably too idle. Keeping him busy would make him behave.
Ayan looked at Kian with a cold gaze, his thin lips opening indifferently,
"Contact Jenson. Tell him to inform Preston that, although the museum
project has signed a cooperation agreement with Armstrong Corp, the
museum's higher-ups prefer direct communication with the executive of
Armstrong Corp. Since many people are watching this project, if you tell
him this news, considering his arrogant and suspicious nature, he won't
really let Horace handle this matter.â
Ayan understood Preston's psychology and knew what kind of person
he was. Preston was naturally suspicious due to his upbringing and
experiences, and he was insecure. If someone questioned him, he
would become angry and jealous. He would go to great lengths to climb
to a higher position.
Now, if Horace delivered a blow to him, it would undoubtedly be his
biggest setback.
Ayan squinted, a faint smirk playing on his thin lips. He exuded a cold
and indifferent aura, making the temperature in the car feel colder.
At that moment, the car pulled into the Simpson Group parking lot.
Ayan urged Kian to arrange this matter as quickly as possible; he
couldn't wait a second longer.
He wanted to make Preston receive this news immediately and darken
his mood.
Kian's efficiency in handling matters was as fast as ever. He
immediately contacted Jenson, instructing him to relay this information
to Preston.
According to Jenson, when Preston received the call, his emotions
were completely out of control.
He interrogated Jenson, "Why does cooperating on a project have to
involve my position?"
Jenson calmly explained, "Mr. Walker, this decision was made by the
museum's higher-ups. I'm just a partner. If I don't want to cooperate
with you, I can state it immediately and find a replacement. However,
since we've worked together before, I thought you might consider
adjusting because, at the moment, your position affects the project. If
you're in a company with higher visibility, even if it's a new one, there
wouldn't be any issues. Unfortunately, Armstrong Corp lacks that bit of
visibility now. So, I hope Mr. Walker can understand the situation, hm?"
Jenson provided a detailed explanation, but it was unclear whether
Preston was really listening. The only thing certain was that he had
stopped being agitated and had become silent and reserved.
