Chapter 1157: No Way
Ayan saw a hint of cunning in Camille's eyes, and a faint smile played
on her thin lips. He whispered, "Am I not honest enough? I almost
showed you the color of my heart.â
This remark instantly changed the atmosphere. Camille couldn't help
but tremble a bit and quickly said, "Your words are a bit scary. Let's talk
about something positive!"
"Scared, huh?" Ayan looked at her, unable to resist asking, "Simpson
Group recently invested in a movie, and it's ready to hit theaters in a
few days. How about we go together to the premiere?"
Camille casually asked, "What movie is it?"
"A somewhat special one,â Ayan said lightly. He then picked up his
phone and opened an unreleased promotional video. "Kian sent it to
me, and I haven't watched it yet. Let's watch it together!"
Ayan had a rough idea of the movie's content. It wasn't an overly
emotional or comedic film. Instead, it delved into aspects of human
nature based on some common occurrences in society.
The movie was somewhat oppressive, especially when the scumbag
locked his wife in an iron box and pushed it into the Yangtze River. The
despair portrayed made it heart-wrenching and infuriating to watch. In
the end, the scumbag naturally paid the price.
However, after watching, there was a somewhat silent atmosphere.
Camille's face, in particular, was filled with a stiff blankness. After a
while, she looked at Ayan and asked, "Why would Simpson Group
invest in such a movie?"
"It got approved by the investment department. After discussions
among the company's top executives, they believed it could generate
enough attention for Simpson Group in the latter half of the year.â
"So, it wasn't your approval?â
"Of course not." Ayan stared at Camille, watching her seemingly
relieved expression. He chuckled and asked, "Scared by the plot?"
"Of course. Seeing such a plot, I can't help but imagine myself as the
protagonist.â She looked at Ayan, her eyes shimmering with concern.
She said, "Do you think I'm too naive?"
âNot naive. It's because everyone has empathy." He tightly held
Camille's hand and said, âI never believe in vows and promises. All I
can do is stick to the unchanging original intention.â
The unchanging original intention eased Camille's worries. She wasn't
worried about becoming the female lead in the movie, nor was she
afraid that Ayan would become the male lead. She was just concerned
that such scenes might happen around them or to them. Ayan's
statement about the unchanging original intention made her completely
clear-headed. Some things, even if worrying, seemed to be of no avail.
After all, what's destined to come will come, and what's not meant to be
won't be obtained through pleas.
As they spoke, time passed quickly, and they soon arrived at Sienna's
restaurant.
Rex was ten minutes early, and as he watched the scene of the two
holding hands entering, he suddenly felt a bit regretful. Wasn't he afraid
he came here to be a third wheel? More like he was going to eat dog
food?
Rex's words made Camille feel a bit embarrassed, but Ayan took it in
stride. In a calm tone, he said, "You're not going to eat? If you feel like
you're about to become a third wheel, why not leave now? Don't even
bother hoping for a chance to eat dog food; just go sit alone at the next
table!"
This was the kind of teasing that only Ayan could get away with; if it
were anyone else, Rex probably wouldn't be so forgiving.
After Ayan's remark, Rex naturally couldn't actually leave. Instead, he
sat in his seat and looked at Camille, asking in a low voice, "Cami, do
you know who she's having dinner with tonight?"
Camille didn't immediately answer but countered with a question,
"Didn't she tell you?"
Camille smiled lightly; after all, Sienna was her friend. She couldn't
directly answer for Sienna, especially considering Sienna's relationship
with Rex. In such a situation, as a friend, she felt it wasn't quite
appropriate to say anything!
Camille's response made Rex slightly stunned. Rex subconsciously
looked at Ayan, adopting a tone of complaint as he said, "Ayan, look at
your wife. She won't even help me cheat. Can't you say something for
me? We're the best of brothers, after all!"
Ayan naturally wouldn't interfere, just smiling faintly. His gaze seemed
to say to Rex, "You're on your own!"
Watching the interaction between the two, Camille pursed her lips and
smiled.
She calmly said, "Regarding Sienna's matters, I will certainly inform
you. Feel free to ask her anytime. This way, you won't have to inquire
behind her back later and risk causing any awkwardness, right?"
Rex, upon hearing this, seemed to find some reason in her words and
nodded lightly. "What you said makes sense.â
Camille continued to smile and said, "So, do you still want to ask?"
"Forget it, it's better if I don't ask. If I had just asked you a moment ago,
you'd probably have told her right away, wouldn't you?"
Camille chuckled, "What do you take me for? I'm not that kind of
person.â Camille looked at Ayan, her eyes carrying a hint of
displeasure, but it was clearly a playful gesture, not a genuine
complaint.
In the next moment, Ayan spoke in a calm tone, "Simpson Group's
lawyer isn't here for nothing."
This statement carried a significant implication, clearly reminding Rex
to be mindful of boundaries.
Rex shrugged, looking somewhat helpless. "When you two are in sync,
there's really no way out for me now, both in the front and the back."
Both Ayan and Camille just smiled faintly, and then the three of them
finished their conversation and started their meal.
This meal was somewhat regrettable due to Sienna's absence. After all,
if Sienna were present, Camille would have someone else to talk to.
Camille had this thought, and Sienna was likely thinking the same. She
silently wished that Camille could be by her side right now, easing the
tension of the current atmosphere!
Sienna sat in front of Mrs. King, with Mario by her side.
The three of them didn't opt for a large table, just a small four-person
table.
On the table were five dishes, a soup, and a fruit platter.
All were specialties of Hance City, chosen by Sienna. From the time the
dishes were served until now, an hour had passed, but most of the time
was spent chatting rather than eating.
Throughout, Mrs. King led the conversation, and Sienna and Mario
responded in agreement.
After a while, Sienna took the initiative to interrupt Mrs. King and said,
"Mom, the dishes are getting cold. Please have some food. You've
come all the way to Hance City; stay a few more days. We have plenty
of time. Next time, when I invite Cami, we can all go shopping together.
She's the most familiar with Hance City now, acting as our tour guide!"
Mrs. King was slightly taken aback and instinctively looked at Mario
before responding, "Sure!"
Sienna then took the initiative to pick a dish for Mrs. King, who smiled
at Sienna's gesture. Mrs. King took a few bites, seemingly absent-
minded, and then subtly glanced at Sienna and Mario. One seemed
indifferent, as if physically present but mentally absent, while the
other's attention was entirely focused on the person beside them.
Mrs. King was well aware of the situation, feeling quite helpless.
However, she couldn't take charge of the situation. She looked at
Sienna and quietly asked, "Sienna, it's been a long time since we've
seen each other. Will you accompany me back to the hotel tonight?"
