Chapter 1091 Curiosity
Preston was now completely immersed in the fantasy of fully devouring
and controlling Armstrong Corp.
Being personally introduced to Armstrong Corp by Brody made him feel
superior to everyone else, including Horace.
In his current triumphant state, Preston couldn't be happier, and Horace
was well aware of it.
In the evening, after returning to the Maple Leaves Mansion, Horace's
life had reverted to its former routine since Grace went abroad. He was
a solitary person, having few deep friendships, both in the past and
present. So, even after work, he spent most of his time alone.
After dinner, Grace's video call came in. Since her departure, for safety
reasons, Grace had newly registered on major social media platforms
to prevent any scrutiny from the Armstrong family.
The two chatted via video call, and Horace found immense comfort in
this simple and cozy setting.
Horace looked at Grace gently and asked, "Are you settling in well?"
In these days abroad, Grace felt unusually relaxed. Although it was her
first ime there, Horace had arranged everything for her. Besides,
Horace's family was also there, ready to take care of her and provide
protection, so she was having a great time.
Looking at Horace on the phone screen, she smiled faintly and said,
âI'm doing well, everything feels familiar, all thanks to you. If I were on
my own, I wouldn't know what to do."
âI'm not by your side, so you have to rely on yourself. If you didn't
attract me on your own, why would I willingly settle everything for you?
It's about your capability, not mine or anyone else's. Understand?"
Horace gave Grace a boost of confidence and reassurance, hoping
she'd be full of vitality and self-assurance, free from any feelings of
inferiority.
Grace nodded, understanding the reasons behind Horace's words.
She updated him on these days, sharing her plans to further her
education in her field. She wanted to work harder and become more
outstanding. In the past, due to her family's overprotection and lack of
choices, she couldn't pursue what she truly liked. Now, with this
opportunity, she didn't want to miss it and intended to make the most of
it.
Horace listened carefully, occasionally offering suggestions and advice.
This mode of interaction was fair and comfortable.
They chatted for a long time, until someone on Grace's end called her
for dinner, concluding the video call.
At this moment, it was still early, around eight o'clock.
Horace checked the time on his wrist and picked up his car keys before
leaving the apartment.
Driving alone, he headed to a private club. Upon arrival, he informed
the waiter of the reserved room's name, and they led him to it.
As the door opened, several men's voices immediately filled the room.
All eyes turned towards the door, and upon seeing Horace, they raised
their glasses, saying, "You're late, gotta take a penalty shot.â
Horace shrugged, accepting it gladly.
Apart from Ayan, he wasn't familiar with Rex, Tomas, and Derek. This
was their first meeting.
Unlike women, men could easily strike up a conversation, even if they
were meeting for the first time, especially over a drink.
Horace was somewhat reserved, but Ayan and the others were quite
enthusiastic, quickly setting a lively atmosphere.
This gathering had been planned several days ago but had to wait until
everyone was available.
Rex raised his glass to Horace, saying, "You're Ayan's brother-in-law
now. Seriously, you need to manage him well for us, show some
brother-in-law authority."
Horace gave a faint smile and replied, "First come, first served!"
This meant that, regardless of age, it was about who came first, subtly
emphasizing that Ayan had a slightly higher status.
Rex said, "First come, first served also implies respecting seniority. As
a brother-in-law, you should discipline your younger brother."
âI'm afraid if I discipline him too much, it won't be easy at home. After
all, Grace is quite obedient to Mrs. Simpson.â Horace looked at Rex
with a slightly troubled expression, then added, "As far as I know, Mrs.
Ward and Mrs. Simpson also have a good relationship, right? Mr. Ward
isn't worried about gossip?"
Now it was Rex's turn to be stunned. He looked at Horace and said,
"Did Ayan buy you off or something?"
Ayan just smiled without saying anything, and Horace also smiled, not
commenting.
The conversation flowed smoothly, and the atmosphere was good.
After chatting for a while, Ayan casually asked, "How did he feel on his
first day at Armstrong Corp?"
"Not bad. Following your advice, I arranged for him to pursue the
museum project.â
"Good, as long as it's arranged for him. The rest will be taken care of by
my people,â Ayan said calmly. Then he raised his glass to Horace,
saying, "Happy cooperation. I hope you take over Armstrong Corp
soon."
"Happy cooperation!" Horace raised his glass, clinking it with Ayan's.
Later, they discussed some topics related to Preston. Horace
remarked, "Preston is quite pleased with himself now. He probably
thinks that with the Armstrong family backing him, he can do whatever
he wants in Armstrong Corp."
"A new leader will set things on fire. You have to give them a chance for
the fire to ignite. After all, only then can they be pleased with
themselves," Ayan said indifferently.
Rex chimed in, "This Preston is just a clown. After what happened with
the Walker family, it's quite a stretch that he can still strut around.â
"Yeah, a real stretch. But if the Walker family isn't holding him
accountable, what can others say?" Horace added in a dispassionate
tone.
Ayan just smiled, saying, "How do you know the Walker family isn't
pursuing it? They've just remained silent for now. After all, this matter
hasn't concluded yet. Molly still has a child in her belly!
All eyes turned to Ayan. Rex, being the most curious, asked, "Do you
think Molly will really have this child?"
"You should ask Molly. After all, the child isn't in either of our bellies.
How can I give you an answer?" Ayan replied indifferently, observing
Rex's gossipy demeanor.
Rex said, "Haven't we always had people keeping an eye on the
Walker family? Don't you know Molly's current situation?"
Ayan remained silent, leaving Rex's curiosity unanswered.
As for the others, although they found it surprising, none were as
curious as Rex, so they didn't pry further.
Unable to satisfy his curiosity, Rex felt increasingly uncomfortable. The
group stayed until around eleven in the evening before dispersing.
Since Rex and Ayan lived in the same place, they naturally shared a
ride back.
As the driver navigated, the two sat in the back seat. Rex, still curious
about the earlier conversation, couldn't let it go. Ayan's refusal to
provide a direct answer only fueled Rex's curiosity.
Glancing at Ayan, Rex, with a hint of probing in his eyes, whispered,
"Ayan, there's no one else here now. How about sharing some details
about Molly's situation? Will she really have the child? If she does, do
you plan to use the child as leverage against Preston?"
Ayan, who had been gazing out the window, grew slightly annoyed due
to Rex's incessant chatter.
He furrowed his brow, looked at Rex indifferently, and asked, "What
does it have to do with you?"
âI'm just genuinely curious because this matter has caused quite a stir!
Without a definite outcome, I'm naturally curious!" Rex replied.
"How about I give you Molly's contact, and you can personally call and
ask her?" Ayan suggested, indifferent.
Rex was taken aback for a moment. After seriously considering it, he
said, "Sure, that works. I'm not very familiar with Molly, so I don't know
if she'll be forthcoming.â
