Chapter 1073: Pitiful
The nurse felt rather helpless in this situation. She couldn't afford to
offend Page, so she spoke softly, "Mrs. Armstrong, I've already made
the call. Miss Armstrong is aware and should be on her way."
As for the instructions Page gave the nurse to deceive Camille, the
nurse dared not mention them. After all, she was aware of Camille's
identity. If her lie were exposed, it might jeopardize her job.
Nonetheless, Page's attitude was anything but friendly. Even when the
nurse ignored her, her voice never ceased, filled with blame, anger, and
dissatisfaction.
Camille stood by the door, her expression cold. She actually didn't want
to go inside since it seemed there was no real issue, and she had only
come to find out about Camille's condition. However, if she could scold
someone and maintain her vigor, then everything was likely fine.
Just as Camille contemplated leaving, she heard a sudden noise from
inside the room. Followed by Page's tirade, "You're just a little nurse,
and you can't even handle such a simple task. Do you believe I'l file a
complaint against you?"
The nurse felt quite helpless and replied, "Mrs. Armstrong, I've done
everything you asked me to do. What else would you like me to do?"
"If you've done everything, why isn't she here yet? It's because you're
so inefficient. You're completely useless! Just wait, I will definitely
complain about you. You..."
Before Page could finish her sentence, Camille had already pushed
open the door to the ward. She stood at the entrance, her gaze cold,
looking at Page, who was reclining on the hospital bed. Since it was a
private room, Page had no concerns about disturbing others. Broken
glass from a smashed water cup littered the floor, and the nurse stood
nearby, wearing a helpless and aggrieved expression.
Camille cast a disinterested glance at Page and then shifted her gaze
to the nurse, saying, "Sorry for the trouble.â
Seeing Camille, the nurse felt as if she had been thrown a lifeline. âIt's
okay."
Camille turned her gaze back to Page, her expression frigid, and
asked, "Why do you always like to implicate innocent people? What's
the point of it?"
Page, however, didn't mind if Camille had heard what she had just said.
Instead, she responded reproachfully, âWhy are you only coming now?"
Camille's face remained cold and indifferent, her voice equally icy.
"Shouldn't you be contacting him at this time? What's the use of
contacting me?"
"Camille, why are you saying such heartless words? I'm your mother. I
had an accident while coming out from the Simpson family, and I didn't
call you immediately because I was worried about disturbing your rest.
But now you're acting like this. Do you even consider me your mother?"
Page questioned coldly.
Since the room's door was open, Page's words naturally echoed
through the quiet hospital ward. Camille, however, displayed no
emotions or reactions, gazing at her with the same frigid and indifferent
expression, offering no response.
It was as if Page's emotional outburst were as effective as striking a
cotton ball with a heavy punch, causing no sensation. She couldn't
endure this. Pointing her finger at Camille, she asked angrily, "Camille,
are you deliberately ignoring me? Are you disregarding me
completely?"
Camille's voice turned cold as she replied, "If you continue with this
attitude, I don't think we have anything more to discuss. I will have
someone from the Armstrong family notified. They'll send people to
attend to your needs. This is a hospital, not your backyard." She turned
to leave.
Page had reached her limit and couldn't bear it any longer. She
shouted, her emotions running high, "Camille, stop right there! If you
dare to leave, I will make you regret it. Do you believe me?"
Camille paid no attention to her words and continued walking out.
Finally, she exited the room.
The driver closed the door behind her, and inside, Page could be heard
throwing things, although it wasn't very loud with the door shut.
Camille, with a serious expression, turned to the doctor nearby and
said softly, "May I meet the nurse who was here earlier?"
The doctor nodded and led Camille to the nurse.
Camille sincerely apologized to the nurse and assured her that if Page
continued with her behavior, they should call security or the police.
Camille left the hospital, and the whole of it took no more than twenty
minutes.
She sat in her car and had the driver take her back to her company.
Afterward, she asked the driver to make a trip to the Armstrong family.
It was only then that Camille learned that the Armstrong family was
aware of Page being in the hospital, but Page had instructed them not
to disturb her. Furthermore, Page hadn't come to the hospital last night;
she had checked in early this morning.
Camille was clueless about Page's intentions. Why was she causing
such a scene?
As for Camille's reasons for coming to the hospital, it wasn't due to
concern. It might sound cold-hearted or heartless, but in everyone's
eyes, she was a part of the Armstrong family, and Page was her
biological mother. If she didn't show any concern for her, could she
even be considered a daughter?
However, Camille felt detached, harboring no worries or anxieties. She
had come to the hospital only because Page had met with an accident
right after leaving the Simpson mansion. She was concerned about
this, and she didn't want Page to speak carelessly, let alone see the
Simpson family become the subject of public gossip.
So she came to check the situation, but she hadn't expected to be so
surprised.
Reflecting on it, it was quite comical. She had acted in so many plays
and done so much, and she wondered if it was all just to gain her
attention?
Camille didn't believe she had such a significant influence on Page. If
Page simply wanted Camille to cooperate with her to deal with Brody,
there was no need to make such a conspicuous presence in front of
Camille. Negotiating terms with Camille would have sufficed.
However, Page's repeated appearances and her every action and word
left Camille filled with doubt.
Camille sat on the sofa in her office, gazing at the view outside the
floor-to-ceiling window.
She was lost in thought, trying to make sense of it all.
At that moment, Camille received a video on her phone. It was from the
doctor she had exchanged contact information with earlier. Since the
doctor was someone Ayan knew, Camille had decided to stay in touch
to ensure they were aware in case Page did anything more outrageous.
What started as a precautionary measure turned into a video message
from the doctor.
This was all less than an hour since Camille had left the hospital.
In the video, Page was dressed in hospital attire, her hair disheveled.
She stood in the doorway of her ward and addressed the passing
people, tears streaming down her face. She said, "My daughter is
ignoring me. I had a car accident and got so dizzy, but my daughter
doesn't care. She even joined forces with her ex-husband's family to
insult me and kick me out of their house in the middle of the night."
As she spoke, Page wept, making her look truly pitiful in the video.
Her cries elicited sympathy from many women of her age, who could
relate to her pain. They didn't think to investigate the true facts behind
the situation.
