Chapter 1057: Hatred
Camille didn't respond much, her face tensed.
Sienna followed up, "Cami, what if, I mean, what if Ayan knows but
didn't tell you? Would you be mad?"
Camille replied firmly, "No. This whole thing has nothing to do with me,
and I don't care. So, even if Ayan knows and doesn't tell me, I wouldn't
have any feelings about it. I can't let this come between us.â
She was speaking to Sienna, but it was also as if she was convincing
herself that even if Ayan truly knew and didn't tell her, she couldn't have
any emotions about it and certainly shouldn't argue with Ayan because
of it.
However, Page's words kept echoing in Camille's mind, casting an
inexplicable shadow over her mood. She remained tight-lipped, her
expression growing stiffer.
Camille and Sienna didn't stay in the restaurant for long and left for
Franklin Bay together.
On the way back, Camille initiated a conversation, "What do you think,
should I tell Ayan about today?"
Sienna replied, "It's not a big deal. If you want to know the truth about
this, telling him will help him investigate. That way, you won't have to let
your mind wander. Although you say it doesn't matter to you, I know
that you're probably a little worried deep down. Even though you're not
close to them, you've never wanted them to have a tough time."
Sienna saw right through Camille's thoughts. Camille didn't deny or
rush to explain. Because, deep down, she did feel that way.
She admitted, "Even if I don't say anything, he probably knows by now
who I met and had dinner with. He might even know how many grains
of rice I ate.â
Ayan had always arranged for someone to protect her. While
previously, someone would discreetly follow her when she went out,
after the parking garage incident, Ayan grew even more concerned.
Therefore, he had someone accompanying Camille all the time, without
disrupting her social life and personal space.
Sienna glanced around, her curiosity getting the better of her. "Where
are your people?â
Camille couldn't help but find Sienna's reaction amusing. She warned,
âYou better act normal. Otherwise, you might get mistaken for having
ulterior motives towards me, and they'll pull you in for questioning. They
might even force you to stop your car."
"Mrs. Simpson, don't say that. Aren't we best friends? You can't let your
bodyguards do something cruel to me. I just haven't seen any
bodyguards, so I wanted to take a look."
Camille smirked, "Alright, you haven't seen any? I'll have Rex hire a
few for you."
Sienna hastily apologized, "I was wrong; I really was. Please, don't.
This guy can be just as crazy as Ayan. These two are like peas in a
pod.â
Of course, she didn't dare to say that Ayan had a high profile, or else
Camille might strangle her. Haha.
After a while, they arrived back at Franklin Bay.
The car stopped in front of Camille's mansion. Sienna glanced at
Camille through the window and asked, "Do you want me to walk you
in?"
Camille replied, "No, thanks!"
"Don't mention it. I was just worried that if the people protecting you
found out I didn't accompany you to Mr. Simpson's, Mr. Simpson might
think less of me and stop offering me benefits."
Camille let out a cold hum, slammed the door shut, and walked straight
into the villa. Sienna followed suit, sharing a laugh before leaving.
As Camille entered the yard, she spotted Ayan's car. It was barely
seven o'clock, so he was back from his engagements rather early. She
thought to herself and continued inside.
When she reached the entrance, she heard Ayan's voice. He was
saying, "Alright, I'll let you know once I've finalized the schedule.â
She didn't catch the other side of the conversation, but Ayan responded
with a couple more 'yeah's before ending the call.
He put his phone down, and his gaze fell on Camille as she entered the
living room. His eyes softened, and his voice was low and husky as he
asked, "You're back. Why was it so quiet?"
Camille replied coolly, âYou were too engrossed with your phone call,
you didn't even notice my presence."
She walked over to sit beside Ayan, and he reached out to give her
shoulders a gentle squeeze, his tone teasing. âIt was Sophia on the
phone. The Dane City project has entered the mid-phase, and they're
planning an investment event. She wants me to attend.â
"Ah," Camille said, nonchalantly.
Ayan peered at her. "Just an âah'?"
"What else should I say?" Camille arched an eyebrow, looking into his
eyes. "After all, it's your job. What input can I give?"
"Of course, tell me if you want me to go or not.â
"What if I say I don't want you to go?"
âThen, of course, I won't."
He wasn't just saying it.
Camille quickly added, "You should still go. If Sophia called you, she
probably really needs your presence.â
After all, Sophia was a friend, and Camille got along with her. So she
should help where she could.
When Camille said this, it was just a casual remark.
This was Ayan's job, and he couldn't decide based on her casual
comment.
Camille was worried that Ayan would really take her words to heart, so
she emphasized, "I just said it without thinking. You shouldn't follow my
words; you should make your own decision.â
Seeing Camille's anxious expression, Ayan couldn't resist teasing her.
He said, "But I've already taken your words to heart. After all, a married
man should do what his wife says, right?"
"We're divorced now, so you don't have to follow the rules of a married
man."
"Is that so?"
"Yes."
Camille was completely unaware of his displeasure until he reached out
and lightly lifted her chin, his eyes narrowing into a cold, straight line.
His voice sounded detached as he said, âYou don't seem to care about
my feelings at all. You just casually mention our divorce, right?"
His words were dripping with a strong sense of threat.
Camille's face stiffened momentarily, but she quickly regained her
composure and offered a faint smile. "I didn't mean that. I'm just a bit
worried, afraid you won't go. If that happens, Sophia would despise
me."
"Are you so concerned about what others think? Don't you care about
my feelings at all?"
"Of course, I do.â
"You do?" Ayan huffed lightly, looking at Camille with a displeased
expression. He accused, "I can see that this is exactly how you are."
Camille hurried to appease him, reaching out to gently link her arm with
his, her voice exceptionally tender. "Please don't be angry. I apologize;
I was wrong. I shouldn't have acted that way, alright?"
Camille's proactive apology prevented Ayan from delving further. He
simply asked, "Who are you having dinner with tonight?"
Upon hearing this question, Camille's smile vanished, and she let out a
silent sigh. Her voice carried a hint of desolation as she replied, "I'm
having dinner with the Armstrong family."
"The Armstrong family? They invited you?"
âYes, but only my mother. She came to the office during the day and
even brought afternoon tea. She claimed it was to apologize to me, but
I don't believe it. I think she's trying to gain my sympathy so that I'll
agree to her requests. So, I agreed to have dinner with her with the
intention of turning down whatever she asks. But, you know what she
told me?"
Camille furrowed her brow, her expression incredulous, which
prompted Ayan to ask, "What did she tell you?"
Camille didn't immediately answer. Instead, she asked the question that
had been bothering her, "Regarding the Armstrong family's matters,
how much do you know? Are there things I'm not aware of? Do you
know anything?"
Ayan furrowed his brow slightly and inquired, "What things you're not
aware of? Are you talking about Armstrong Corp or the Armstrong
family?"
âThe Armstrong family. Is there something you know that you haven't
had the chance to tell me about?" Camille asked.
