Chapter 1041 Tired
Yeah, they're not even step-parents. Why would they treat their
biological daughter like this?
Ayan made a faint hum, his expression deepening. He didn't voice his
thoughts but just looked at Fletcher Talia. âI'll check on Cami and
Grandpa.â
"Sure, go ahead. Comfort Cami as much as possible, don't let her be
sad. If the Armstrong family treats her badly, we should treat her even
better, understand?â
âI do," Ayan said with a faint smile. He then headed towards the room
of the old Simpson.
With Ayan gone, only Talia and Fletcher remained in the hall.
Fletcher calmly said, "I wonder what the Armstrong family will do after
today."
"Are you worried they'll continue spreading rumors like they did this
morning?"
âIt's not out of the realm of possibility.â Fletcher had a serious
expression, and his voice was low and deep. "I'm not so concerned
about their actions endangering the Simpson family or Simpson Group.
Simpson Group has adhered to the rules for so many years and hasn't
done anything out of bounds. Even if they want to target Simpson
Group, it can withstand an investigation. I'm just worried about what
they might do to Cami.â
"What can they do? Cami has Ayan with her; they wouldn't dare.â
âIt's always good to be cautious." Fletcher's face grew even darker, and
he recalled the advice given to him by the old Simpson. His mood
darkened even further.
However, Talia didn't notice his unease. She simply furrowed her brow
slightly and spoke in a dispassionate tone, âI won't discuss it with you.
I'm going to check on Timmy. I wonder if he's asleep at this hour?"
Since Timmy was entrusted to Talia, she had devoted most of her time
to him. It didn't mean she lost her personal space, but instead of
attending various gatherings alone as before, she now took Timmy with
her. The other wives observed this and grew envious. They began to
rush her to get married and have children and become grandparents.
Talia's friends also loved Timmy very much, and their affection was
genuine. This made Talia wonder: "Look at the Armstrong family.
They're here at our house, but they haven't expressed any interest in
seeing Timmy. To them, where is Cami, and where is Timmy? That's
why I'm a hundred percent against letting Cami go with them. These
people are only concerned with their interests, so they can't possibly
treat Camille and Timmy well.â
The more Talia thought about it, the more she felt this way. Who doesn't
cherish their grandchildren? After all, they are the children of their own
daughter. Shouldn't they love them even more? Every time she thought
about Brody and Page's expressions, it made her uncomfortable. She
silently told herself that she had to be doubly good to Camille and
Timmy.
Talia was indeed a person with a good heart.
In the old Simpson's bedroom.
After Camille had accompanied the old Simpson back to the room, the
old Simpson had Kit get some water and close the door. The room was
left with only the old Simpson and Camille.
The old Simpson sat in a armchair, and Camille took a seat on a stool.
She gazed at the old Simpson and asked, "Grandpa, are you okay? Do
you feel uncomfortable anywhere?"
The old Simpson shook his head and looked at Camille. "Cami, have
they been trying to contact you a lot lately?"
Camille was slightly puzzled by the old Simpson's question but nodded
truthfully. "Yes, they did reach out, but I blocked them. So, I can't
contact them, and it's quite challenging even if I wanted to."
The old Simpson responded, "That's good. As long as you're not being
mistreated, there's no need to worry about othersâ opinions and feelings
all the time." His words showed his partiality and protection for Camille.
Camille nodded gently and spoke softly, "Grandpa, don't worry. I will
take care of myself. If anyone bullies me, I will tell you, okay?"
The old Simpson was satisfied and nodded in agreement. "Good, it's a
promise.â
Camille responded promptly, âYes, it's a promise.â She was concerned
for the old Simpson and asked, "Grandpa, are you really okay?"
The old Simpson reassured her, "I'm fine. Although I may be getting old
and my health isn't the best, I can still take care of you."
Camille smiled and said, "You can protect not only me but also the
entire Simpson family!"
The old Simpson always enjoyed chatting with Camille, even if their
conversations were mundane. He found happiness in talking with her.
Thinking about today's events, Brody and Page's reactions, and the
online rumors they had spread, the old Simpson's face turned unsightly.
He frowned deeply, his expression growing cold. The old Simpson's
eyes concealed something significant, making his emotions highly
unstable.
The old Simpson didn't immediately share his thoughts but looked at
Camille with a complex expression. She noticed his uneasiness and
asked, "Grandpa, why are you looking at me like that? Are you feeling
unwell?"
Camille was deeply concerned for the old Simpson, and he shook his
head but replied in a low voice, "Cami, you don't need to take their
words to heart. Don't trust the Armstrong family; their words are not
reliable.â
This was the first time Camille had heard the old Simpson express such
a sentiment. Even though they had discussed the Armstrong family in
the past, he had never explicitly advised her not to believe them.
Camille was taken aback, knowing that the old Simpson wasn't the kind
of person who would intentionally badmouth others behind their backs.
Furthermore, given his age, he had no ulterior motives. His words had
only one outcome: he genuinely cared for Camille. They also implied
that the Armstrong family was genuinely untrustworthy.
While Camille was aware of this and didn't trust the Armstrong family,
the old Simpson's words still surprised her.
Camille chose not to inquire further but simply nodded, saying,
"Grandpa, you don't have to worry. I understand. I know how to handle
it, so don't worry about me."
The old Simpson remained concerned, saying, "You have a soft heart.
While you may say you can protect yourself, when faced with a real
situation, you might soften. Cami, even though the Armstrong family is
part of your family, let me emphasize this: don't believe everything they
say. If you have any doubts, come and ask me, okay?"
His words carried a significant implication, and Camille sensed that
there was more to them than met the eye. She wondered if she was
reading too much into it.
Camille was puzzled by the old Simpson's words and couldn't make
sense of what he was hinting at. Nonetheless, she nodded in
agreement.
As their conversation continued, a knock on the door interrupted them.
Ayan entered the room, his gaze first landing on Camille and then on
the old Simpson. After assessing their expressions and ensuring that
everything was normal, he said, "Grandpa, are you tired? If you are,
you should rest soon, okay?"
The old Simpson wasn't pleased with Ayan's words, and his gaze
turned stern. He retorted, "Do I look tired to you?"
With a light hum, the old Simpson glared at Ayan, his stern expression
clear.
Camille saw this and almost laughed but restrained herself, knowing
that Ayan could be vengeful. Laughing now might lead to her own
payback later.
Camille lowered her head to hide her facial expression from Ayan and
remained silent with her lips slightly pursed.
Ayan didn't speak and simply stared at the old Simpson with a furrowed
brow. He glanced at Camille from the corner of his eye. As a result,
there was no immediate response.
The old Simpson expressed his discontent. "You don't even want to
respond when I'm talking to you? You plan to deal with this on your
own? Have you considered that believing their words without question
could lead to trouble for both Cami and you?"
