Chapter 1028: Softened Heart

Camille paused for a moment, wondering why this man was once again

indulging in self-love. If he weren't Ayan, she would have suspected

him of having a delusional obsession with himself. After all, he had a

way of interpreting every word she said in that direction. Although it was

true, it sounded a bit strange coming from his mouth.

Camille let out a soft hum and pushed him away with her hand, saying

indifferently, "You're overthinking."

Ayan found her change of mood amusing and chuckled, "What's the

difference between you and a player now? Using and then pushing

away immediately.”

Camille pursed her lips and replied calmly, "If that's what you think,

then so be it."

"So, you won't even explain or deny it now?"

"Mm-hmm."

"You're ruthless."

“Thanks for the compliment,” Camille raised an eyebrow and added

casually, "Now, go take a shower. I'm tired."

Ayan looked at her deeply and then reached out to ruffle her hair before

getting up and heading toward the bathroom.

That night, there were mixed emotions for different people.

Brody had hardly slept a wink all night and couldn't close his eyes. After

the Wesley family had left, he had questioned Page, "Where is Grace

now?"

Page genuinely didn't know. She shook her head and explained, "I

haven't been able to reach her. She doesn't have many friends, and the

few she has aren't in Hance City right now. I've inquired about each of

them, and Grace isn't with any of them. But I can't openly say that

Grace has run away from home, to avoid gossip.”

Page explained in a low voice, not daring to meet Brody's eyes. She

observed his expression from the corner of her eye. Brody's face was

tense, and his cloudy black eyes revealed extreme displeasure. His

gaze seemed to blame Page for not even handling this small matter

properly.

Page bit her lip and didn't dare to confront or explain further. She

simply waited in silence for Brody to speak.

After a brief moment of silence, Brody's voice, cold and distant, broke

the quiet, "If you're worried about gossip, you should have taken better

care of her. If you had educated her properly, would she have done

something as rebellious as this?"

Brody questioned harshly, and his eyes were filled with anger, as if he

wanted to devour Page with his burning gaze.

Page's complexion stiffened. She was deeply unhappy with Brody's

attitude. Ever since she had married him, they had maintained a

traditional husband-wife relationship, with Brody being the dominant

figure. From the day she had married Brody, he had been a chauvinist,

making Page feel like she had no say or rights.

Especially after giving birth to their daughter, she hadn't received any

affection from Brody. He had been dissatisfied with everything she did,

no matter what. Over the years, she had endured numerous

grievances, but she hadn't dared to retort in the slightest. Even now,

she couldn't.

Brody's attitude and the current situation made her unable to hold back

any longer, and she dared to ask, "Shouldn't we be focused on how to

deal with the Wesley family and Armstrong Corp at this critical

moment? Let's set Grace aside for now. If she sees what's happening

online, she'll surely be worried about home, and she'll come back on

her own."

"What do you mean by “set her aside? She's part of the Armstrong

family, and she should participate in facing this situation,” Brody

responded coldly.

"Participate in what? What can Grace do? At Armstrong Corp, she's

always followed your and Horace's lead. She doesn't have the authority

to make decisions on her own. Do you want her to go to Chesen City

with the Wesley family?" Page's emotions flared up instantly. She had

invested a lifetime's worth of effort into raising Grace. She had worked

hard to make Grace a gentle and elegant lady. Naturally, she hoped

Grace would make a high-class marriage rather than be used as a

pawn and marry someone useless.

Page's attitude was too agitated, so much so that she couldn't wait for

Brody to speak before urgently saying, “Grace is your own daughter.

She's the one you've watched grow up. Do you really want to ruin her?"

Brody replied with a stern expression, "I haven't even said anything yet,

and you're already behaving this way? Do you know what you look like

right now? You're like a woman cursing on the street. Let me tell you,

even if I do have that intention, you can't stop me. Don't forget, the

entire Armstrong family is under my control, not yours."

Brody's authority brooked no challenge, and he couldn't tolerate the

slightest disrespect from anyone.

From his words, Page could also hear that he didn't intend to give

Grace to the Wesley family. This slightly relieved Page, and she said,

“I'm just afraid, Grace is my life. I'm afraid you'll sacrifice her."

Brody snorted coldly, and a heavy frost settled in his brow.

Grace was precious to them, but what about Camille? Was Camille just

meant to be sacrificed?

Although they were strict and controlling toward Grace, they still acted

as parents should. But when it came to Camille, their actions were so

ridiculous that Camille couldn't help but wonder if they were truly her

biological parents. Would any real parents treat their child like this?

Camille was fortunate not to have heard this conversation, as it would

only fuel her self-doubt.

The conversation between Brody and Page continued. Brody told

Page, "We must find Grace. In the current situation, she also bears

some responsibility. Horace wants all of my shares, or he will use this

situation to bankrupt Armstrong Corp. To resolve the current crisis, I

must keep Horace in check.”

"Are you suggesting that Grace should marry Horace?"

"Of course not. He's not qualified. He may have money, but in Hance

City, there are many more powerful people. If he wants to completely

swallow up Armstrong Corp, he needs to prove he has the capability.

As long as I don't yield, he can only dream.” Brody snorted and

continued coldly, "Grace is of a marriageable age now. Delaying it

might not offer better options."

"Do you want her to marry someone?"

“There's an opportunity right now. Once it succeeds, it will provide

stability for you, me, and the Armstrong family.”

"Do you already have a candidate in mind?" Page naturally wanted

Grace to marry someone with capability and wealth, so Brody's words

piqued her interest.

However, when Brody mentioned a name, Page was thoroughly

stunned.

Page looked at Brody incredulously and asked, "Are you sure it's him?"

"Do you think I'm just saying this?" Brody replied.

"But he..."

"So what? In the current situation, seizing this opportunity is essential.

Once Grace becomes pregnant, will they dare to renege on their

promises?" Brody snorted and became completely absorbed in his own

thoughts. He believed that his plan was perfect.

Grace, on the other hand, was completely unaware of these

discussions.

However, she was well aware of what had happened today through the

internet and Horace's words.

Faced with what Brody and Page had done, Grace was at a loss. She

couldn't understand why her father would treat Camille this way. Didn't

he have any reservations? This was a dangerous pitfall, and he knew it,

yet he was pushing Camille into it despite the risks. Why was he doing

this?

Horace tried to console Grace in a low voice, "Camille has Ayan

protecting her on her side. Ayan will shield her from harm, so she

shouldn't be too badly affected. Right now, I'm worried about you. I've

already confronted your dad and told him to either sell me the shares or

I'll file for bankruptcy directly. This is undoubtedly forcing him, so I'm

worried he might do anything to find you and make you a scapegoat in

this matter. So, you mustn't be soft-hearted, okay?"
