Zadkiel was sitting on the bed, staring at the wall clock as it ticked the time. As the arm of the clock ticked the second, it was subtracted from Zadkielâs short span of life that consisted of only a few hours now.
Of course, by now he knew he was immortal and he wouldnât die exactly but still, the idea of having his heart stopped even for few minutes wasnât exactly as exciting as it was sounding.
There was a knock on the door. He knew it wouldnât be Irvin because Irvin wouldnât knock before entering his own room so he sat up and let out a soft âcome inâ
Abel stepped in giving him a tight-lipped smile before closing the door behind him. He silently made his way to Zadkiel and sat before him on the bed, fiddling with his fingers.
âI couldnât find peace knowing you are going to do it tomorrow.â He mumbled, looking down at his palms while he spoke. Zadkiel had never seen Abel so much sadness in his life before.
âIâll be fine, bro. I am immortal.â Zadkiel assured him, resting a hand on his thigh.
âI know but anything can go wrong. I justâ¦â He stopped himself before he would make his best friend emotional too.
âAbel, if anything did go wrong, just remember that I was already dying and I died at least trying to save myself,â Zadkiel spoke, voice barely above a whisper but a smile was prominent on his face.
âHave you ever seen a person who is drowning? He tries till his last breath. He flails his arms, yells and tries to grasp on anything even if itâs just a broken vine floating in the water. He doesnât stop until he dies trying. Just think of me like that person. Iâm just trying to save myself because Iâm drowning.â Zadkiel grabbed his hand, removed his necklace and placed it on Abelâs hand.
âRead whatâs written on it,â Zadkiel spoke.
âHope,â Abel mumbled, without even looking down at the necklace.
âYou gave me this when you found out that I had some unidentified disease and I was dying from it. I had lost all of my hope. You said this is your hope and youâre giving it to me so, I will never lose mine.â
âToday, I have hope because of you. Hope of getting rid of whatever disease Iâm breathing through. Donât snatch it away from me now.â Zadkiel spoke. He didnât say curse because he was sitting in his bedroom and everyone was home. There was a chance anyone could be eavesdropping. Abel understood that.
They hadnât told anyone about the curse thing or that they visited a witch to get treatment. Irvin had strictly asked him not to utter the word before they paid their first visit to Tia.
Though after they came back Irvin was in a rage and he argued with everyone around. He heard that Irvin fought with his father in the office and the fight might have extended to physically punching each other but he knew that wasnât true. Though he did see a bruise on Edmondâs face, he chose to ignore it thinking it was because he fell down some stairs or whatever.
âPromise me that you wonât die.â Abel cried, squeezing Zadkielâs hand.
âI thought after all this time, youâd be ready for my funeral.â Zadkiel joked but it was bad timing and a bad joke.
âShut up!â He sobbed for his best friend.
âIâm sorry,â Zadkiel mumbled before pulling his best friend in a hug. âIâm a half-angel,â Zadkiel whispered in his ear to tell him and assure him that he was going to be alright.
Abel pulled back and stared at his best friend, startled. He squinted his eyes in a question and Zadkiel gave a head nod to confirm that what he said is true.
âI always knew!â Abel exclaimed in happiness. âI mean look at you!â
Zadkiel laughed and gestured through his hand for Abel to quieten down. Abel who had almost jumped off his position sat back and smiled at Zadkiel, looking at him with adoration.
âBut still something can go wrong.â This time his tone wasnât sad, he was like warning Zadkiel.
âYou may want to take a further step with Irvin. In case you take too long to wake up before he decides to leave your ass for good.â Abel teased him. Zadkiel rolled his eyes.
âIâm already thinking of that but not because heâll leave me. Just because I want to step up and be close to him in an intimate way before anything goes wrong and I never have the chance again.â He murmured.
âSo, tonight is on.â Abel wiggled his eyebrows.
âOh shut up!â Zadkiel laughed but soon it died.
âIâm nervous.â He stated, looking at his best friend quite seriously.
âYou know itâs nothing to be nervous about. Youâre talking to the one-time experienced man who still doesnât know what happened or how it happened but yeah, donât be nervous. If youâre worried about the pain, well it hurts but not as much as people describe it because, in the end, itâs all pleasure.â Abel the experienced man in the sex department tried to lift Zadkielâs nerves.
Zadkielâs face had a frown and he stared at Abel for a while, really concerned if he was okay but then, he lifted his hand to whack him on the head, setting him on a blank stare.
âI was talking about the heart-stopping thingy!â He stated, still holding that blank stare. Abel made a realization face, making an âoâ with his lips before turning red in embarrassment as he rubbed where Zadkiel had hit him.
âWell, donât worry about that too,â Abel mumbled still embarrassed.
âIâm not worried that Iâm gonna die or something. Iâm just nervous because stopping my heart doesnât sound like a good idea.â Zadkiel sighed.
âSo, what you wanna do? Burn down alive and then rise from the ashes like a phoenix?â Abel gave him a bored look.
âWell, I donât wanna die. Even for a second.â Zadkiel rolled his eyes.
âDidnât you say, this is you trying?â Abel mocked him.
âWell, trying doesnât mean, I canât be nervous.â Zadkiel scoffed. âYou know what? Get out. Youâre really not being helpful here.â Zadkiel leaned back on the bed.
âOh, Iâm sorry that no one seemed to write a speech for the person whoâs going to get his heart stopped, or else I wouldâve given you that speech,â Abel spoke with the same tone as Zadkiel. Zadkiel straightened his leg and kicked Abel off the bed.
âInsensitive jerk!â He muttered as Abel was rubbing his back with a scowl on his face.
âYou know what, Iâm leaving.â Abel stood up, scowling at Zadkiel.
âPlease.â Zadkiel rolled his eyes. Abel huffed before walking to the door. He was about to open the door when he thought why not piss him off a bit more as he turned around.
âUse protection tonight. I donât want to be an uncle so early. And yeah, have fun moaning tonight.â Abel spoke before moaning Irvinâs name which made Zadkiel shot up from his bed and chase him but he was quick to exit the room.
As soon as he exited the room, he bumped into a hard chest, coming to a halt. He stepped back to look at the person. It was Irvin.
But he didnât have time to stop and say anything to him because behind him the door opened and before Zadkiel could catch him he sprinted off.
âFuck you!â Zadkiel growled.
âNo, youâre the one getting fucked tonight. Have fun.â Abel yelled and as he was climbing down the stairs he moaned Irvinâs name again, knowing Zadkiel could hear him but forgetting the fact that so could Irvin.
âUh?â Irvin raised his eyebrow at Zadkiel who was looking at him with flushed cheeks, too embarrassed to hold eye contact.
âHeâs an idiot.â Zadkiel chuckled nervously, still hanging off between the door and the doorframe, holding it ajar.
âOkayâ¦?â Irvin was amused to see Zadkiel turning red and being a total mess as he just kept hanging and blushing while biting his lower lip.
âMind stepping aside?â The curly lad smirked at him.
âOh yeah⦠sure.â Zadkiel chuckled nervously, mentally cussing himself as he stepped aside and held the door open for Irvin and once Irvin was inside the room, he shut it though he didnât turn around after closing it and kept facing the closed door, hands on the doorknob.
His heart was beating so fast. He was embarrassed and nervous at the same time. In his mind, he kept cussing Abel for being so loud about it in front of Irvin but he couldnât blame him for anything because thatâs all he was thinking about. Thatâs all he wanted to do.
âZadkiel, is the door really that fascinating?â Irvin questioned. His tone was teasing and Zadkiel hated it. He took a deep breath, shutting his eyes tightly before letting out a breath and opening them again. He turned around.
âYeah.â Zadkiel shrugged, too embarrassed for his own good.
âWell, the bed is more comfortable. I assure you that.â Irvin spoke, sitting on the edge of the bed while Zadkiel stayed leaned against the door.
âNo, I like it here.â He had no idea what his mouth was spitting out because he was in some different kind of dimension, unlike his body. He felt like his body was standing on earth while his brain was somewhere way too deeply buried in the earth because of the embarrassment.
âCome here, you doofus.â Irvin chuckled, patting the bed beside him.
âNo, you come here. I told you I like it here.â He wasnât going to embarrass himself more by walking on his wobbly legs and then falling face first.
âZadkiel, donât you wanna sleep?â Irvin was very much amused by Zadkielâs state.
âSleep? Yeah. Thatâs a very good idea. We should sleep.â Zadkiel nodded, having no idea what he was saying but he stayed put against the door.
âBabe, you gotta lie down on the bed for that?â Irvin chuckled.
âIâll sleep against the door. You sleep on the bed.â Zadkiel spoke but then he registered what he said. âI mean you sleep, I have work to do before calling it a night.â He gave Irvin a smile. Irvin pressed his lips together to hold back the laugh.
âAre you still embarrassed because of what Abel did?â Irvin spoke and it made Zadkielâs heart drop in the pit of his stomach. He was sure if this continued his heart would just drop out of his ass in embarrassment.
âAbel who? I mean why would I be embarrassed? I told you that I just like the door. Itâs very comforting you know. Very smooth.â Zadkiel spoke as if he was making the discovery of the century.
Irvin chuckled, shaking his head as he stood up. He threw the phone he had in his hand on the bed before starting his slow walk towards Zadkiel who pressed himself more against the door and if he could, he wouldâve climbed up to the ceiling through it.
âI guess I liked you there, on the bed. Why are you coming here?â His heart was now drumming so loud against his chest and his breaths picked up that he actually thought there was a whole ass concert going inside his body as everything just contributed and his legs were shaking, making him dance to the beat.
âI like you pressed against the door as well,â Irvin said, dropping his voice and making it deep rough which made Zadkiel squirm in his place. All he wanted to do was to open the door and sprint out of it.
He was questioning himself that what exactly was that he wanted. He remembered hating Irvin a few hours ago after reading that file but now here he was, anticipating Irvinâs next movement, squirming under his intense, intimidating gaze as his heart was beating for him.
âAh⦠now that I think about it, you were right. Bed seems more comfortable.â Zadkielâs breath hitched as Irvin was now closer to him. He pushed against the door and tried to make his way to the bed but this time Irvin caged him in between his arms placed around his head on the door, staring deeply at him.
Zadkielâs let out a poof of air, staring everywhere but Irvinâs eyes as sweat started forming on his forehead.
âDo you feel hot? I feel like itâs getting hot.â Zadkielâs breaths were so loud and rapid by now. He was looking at the ceiling trying not to make eye contact with Irvin as he fanned himself with his hand.
Irvin didnât utter a word and grabbed Zadkielâs chin between his forefinger and thumb. Zadkielâs breath hitched at the skin to skin contact but he stayed pressed against the door, looking up.
Irvin made him look right at him. Zadkiel bit his lips in nervousness and stared back at him through his innocent hazel orbs that were sparkling. Irvin caressed his jawline with his thumb so tenderly that it made Zadkiel weak in the knees.
âWhat are you doing?â Zadkiel whispered, panting and shaking. His eyes were glued at Irvinâs green orbs. His wolf was howling inside him, enjoying the love she was getting from her mate. She was in pleasure while Zadkiel was almost sweating.
Irvinâs lips curved into a teasing smile as he leaned forward. Zadkiel closed his eyes waiting for Irvinâs lips as he was thinking he was going to kiss him but Irvin pressed his lips against his ear as he breathed slowly against his ear.
âWhat you wanted me to do.â He whispered, brushing his lips against Zadkielâs ear, earning a whimper from him as his body shivered. His knees gave in as he placed his hands on Irvinâs shoulder while Irvinâs hand moved from his chin to his waist.
âY-you⦠were eavesdropping⦠on our... conversation?â He said through his heavy breaths, looking down at the floor to catch his breath.
âI didnât intend to. It just caught my attention.â Irvin answered, rubbing Zadkielâs side with his thumb.
Zadkiel lifted his head and stared at Irvinâs face for a while. Irvin looked so intimidating yet so beautiful. He couldnât hold it back anymore.
âThen, what are you waiting for?â He whispered, keeping his eyes locked with his mate.
Irvin smirked before lifting him in his arms with no effort and taking him back to the bed.
