Another lost hope. Another door went unanswered. Another no for pleading to mercy. Another prayer gone rejected.
What could he do now? Other than to accept his fate, succumb to it and die. He couldnât fight more. Every time, he built another hope and enough strength to win the battle, the opponent won without even trying. He could only do it enough times before giving up.
âGreat! Party is over, guys. Letâs go home, Irvin.â He chuckled bitterly, jumping off the stretcher. Irvin sighed, feeling hopeless and drained.
âI didnât say weâre done,â Tia spoke, making Zadkiel come to a halt.
âYou said, curses are unbreakable.â Zadkiel gave her teary eyes.
âI know what I said and itâs true but I can still cure you.â She stated.
âHow?â
âCurses canât be broken till the person is dead but they have loopholes. This witch knew what she was doing.â Tia spoke, making both of them confused.
âWhat are you trying to say?â Irvin furrowed his eyebrows.
âIrvin, Zadkiel isnât just a werewolf. He is immortal. This witch cursed his werewolf part.â She was only making both the lads more confused than before. They shared a look before Irvin spoke again.
âIâm sorry, Tia but weâre not catching you.â
âThe curse is that he would never turn into a wolf and when a werewolf never turns, it dies.â She spoke but this time Irvin was the one to deny it.
âItâs not true. Most of the werewolves canât even turn for three to four full moons. They never died. Itâs just some learn late. I myself didnât turn for two full moons.â Irvin argued.
âThis is the information most of the werewolves donât know because it never happened. Think of it this way. Humans didnât know they could die of small poxes because they never experienced it but once, one of them got infected and died, they realized that itâs dangerous. The same goes for werewolves. They never experienced something like this because everyone eventually turned sooner or later. Zadkiel never turned and itâs been years. Werewolves turn when they hit 17 and Zadkiel is what?â She looked at Zadkiel.
âTwenty.â He answered.
âTwenty. It's three years. Count the full moons he hasnât turned. Itâs 36 moons.â She explained.
âSo, you mean to say that heâd be fine if he turns?â
âYes. He would be but he canât turn. As I said, curses are unbreakable.â She spoke.
âCan you not talk in riddles? Iâm on the edge here!â Zadkiel snapped at her.
âWhat Iâm saying is that you have to die to break the curse.â
âThank you.â Zadkiel turned around on his shoes to leave but she spoke again.
âBut you wouldnât actually die.â This made him stop again.
âWhat?â He wanted to punch her at this point but he would never do that.
âAs I said, she knew what she was doing while casting this spell to curse you. The loophole in this curse is that youâre immortal because youâre not just a werewolf. Even if you die, you wouldnât die.â She passed him a smile.
âThen what am I, if not just a werewolf?â Zadkiel raised the question looking back and forth between Irvin and Tia. Tia glanced at Irvin before answering.
âI⦠Iâm not quite sure.â She spoke but Zadkiel could tell she was lying and he also knew the reason behind it. It was Irvin who gave her a shake of the head.
âAll I know is that whatever your genes have, it is immune to any spell. Only your human and wolf sides were attacked with the spell.â She answered.
âSo what now?â
âYour heart needs to stop for the curse to complete its cycle. You are immortal. You canât die.â She informed him.
âWould I still be a werewolf?â He questioned.
âYou can change your genes, can you?â She arched her eyebrow.
âTia, I know that you know what I am. Please, donât hide it from me.â Zadkiel pleaded.
âI canât tell you.â She said looking back at Irvin. Zadkiel turned around to see Irvin who had his eyes on the floor. He turned back to face her.
âPlease?â He begged, joining his hands.
âI can only tell you that we witches donât mess with your kind. You are pure and superior. Thatâs why the witch who cast the curse on you, didnât even touch your other side. She must have an agenda to even cast a spell on you in the first place.â
âYou think there was someone who made her do this?â Zadkiel questioned, though he already knew the answer.
âAs I said, we donât mess with your kind. She mustâve done it because someone asked her to and it must have cost a lot because a curse like that requires sacrifice.â She informed him. Zadkiel already knew what sacrifice was needed to cast a spell on him.
âCan you cure him, Tia?â Irvin tried to change the topic.
âYes. By stopping his heart.â She nodded.
âWhat would happen once it is stopped?â Zadkiel stared at her.
âYouâd die. But it would be like a coma state and then like a phoenix, youâll come back to life from the ashes, stronger than before.â She dramatically spoke, spreading her arms open.
âDying sounds scary,â Zadkiel murmured.
âDonât worry, we can do it whenever youâre ready⦠or you can just wait until you die on your own. Only, that would be a slow and painful death.â She gave him a pat.
âSo, every doctor who examined me-â Zadkiel couldnât complete his sentence before she interrupted.
âTo a human or anyone whoâd examine your body, youâre dying because you actually are dying. They donât know youâll come back once you die.â He nodded and turned to face Irvin.
âI need to make up my mind for this. Iâm not ready today.â He said to his mate who nodded, walking closer to him and stood beside him.
âHow long itâd take for him to return to life?â Irvin questioned Tia.
âI donât know. Can take few seconds or few days. I have no idea. I just know that he canât die.â She honestly replied.
âOh, Iâm definitely not ready for lying on the bed for days.â Zadkiel shook his head.
âWeâll be back. Thanks, Tia.â Irvin spoke, placing a hand on Zadkielâs lower back and bowing his head to the lady.
âZadkiel, youâre one of your kind. You are a gift for this world. Born out of pure love. Love yourself.â She said to the raven-haired boy who was sure that she mustâve peeked inside him to find out how much he was confused if he loved himself for who he was or not.
âThank you, Tia.â He gave her a warm smile. She stepped forward and placed a kiss on his cheek before pulling back and winking at him.
âYouâre a face, I wouldnât forget.â She flirted again, making Zadkiel chuckle again while Irvin placed a protective arm around his waist.
âThank you, Tia. We shall go back now.â He spoke as if he was mad at her but he wasnât actually because he knew he had nothing to fear.
âSee ya, grumpy!â She chuckled before sending both the mates on their way.
