âGet out of my room!â Irvin spat, glaring at him.
It took a moment for Zadkiel to understand what Irvin said because he was so hurt by the tone Irvin used and the glare he was sending his way as if he couldnât hate him enough.
Finally, a drop of all the love that was bubbling up for Irvin inside Zadkiel, escaped the corner of his eyes and his throat clogged to even voice his protest. Maybe, his body knew that Irvin wasnât what he thought of him to be. Even the wolf inside him didnât put up a protest. She was just wailing in sorrow.
âDidnât you hear me? Get the fuck out of my room!â Irvin bellowed and it was enough to make Zadkiel flinch out of the trance as he hurriedly shuffled off the bed. He grabbed his shoes to wear but Irvin didnât have enough patience for it.
âZadkiel, get out!â This time the growl Irvin let out, made Zadkiel whimper and he obliged as he grabbed his shoes in his hands and ran out of the room, shutting the door behind him.
He was so confused and emotional that he didnât even see where he was going as he bumped into someone. As he lost the grip on his shoes, the other person lost the grip on the tray they were holding, both made a noise as they hit the floor.
âI⦠Iâm⦠Iâm so... so sorry. I wasnât⦠looking⦠I wasnât looking where I was going.â He spoke panting and gasping for air as he crouched to pick up the fallen objects, trying to hold back his tears.
âHey⦠Hey⦠itâs alright.â He heard a womanâs voice but he was too messed up to recognize it.
âNo⦠itâs⦠itâs my fault⦠I⦠Iâm sorry.â Zadkiel spoke as he put the contents of food he had wasted back on the tray.
âZadkielâ¦â The lady grabbed his hand and stroked it. Zadkiel then looked up to find it was Anne. He fell on his knees from his crouched position as he burst into tears that he was holding inside.
âWhat happened?â She asked in her softest and the most concerned tone but Zadkiel refused to open up his mouth. He and the wolf were only sobbing in the sorrow of getting accused of something they didnât do and that too by their own Alpha.
âOkay⦠donât tell me but get up.â He spoke, tugging Zadkielâs hand. Zadkiel obliged but then bent down to pick up the fallen stuff.
âLeave it. Someone will clean it.â She spoke to the boy who seemed so lost and looked so messed up.
Zadkiel left it right there before grabbing his shoes and standing up. Nora held his wrist with her soft hand as she led him to her room and made him sit on the bed. She offered him a glass of water, which Zadkiel gulped down in one breath because his throat was dry as a desert and thatâs because he was so scared of Irvin that he felt like every drop of water in his body got drained.
Nora refilled the glass and pushed it into Zadkielâs hand who downed that one in a breath as well.
âWant more?â She questioned Zadkiel who shook his head, staring at the floor. She sat the glass down on the nightstand before sitting beside him.
âWhat happened?â She questioned in a low voice because she was scared to disturb whatever he was thinking.
âI donât know what happened to Irvin. He thinks I use my mind-controlling powers on him. He said I manipulated him to make him give my mother a place to stay when I didnât even know he gave her a place to stay here.â Zadkiel whispered, eyes still on the floor.
âYour mother? Sheâs here?â Nora frowned.
âYes. She showed up today at the headquarters.â Zadkiel answered.
âI donât know what Irvin is talking about. He thinks Iâm mind-controlling him and faking every emotion because I have some grand plan. He thinks Iâm turning him against his father.â Zadkiel continued while Nora was still lost in the previous statement that Zadkielâs mother was here. But when Zadkiel stopped, Nora comprehended what he said.
âActually, heâs really stressed these days. Iâm not taking his side because Iâm his mother. I know he shouldnât have said anything like that without proof but he has a lot of pressure on him these days. The council is giving him a tough time and his father is not helping him much in this. Plus, there is this thing going. The werewolf packs are mysteriously disappearing into thin air and no one knows why. Itâs been a lot for him to handle.â Nora spoke in coded words.
âHe kicked me out of the room.â Zadkiel looked up at her. She pressed her lips together because she knew Irvin crossed the limits by bringing up Zadkielâs parents into this and kicking him out.
âIâll talk to him.â She assured him but Zadkiel shook his head.
âDonât.â His eyes again welled up with tears. âI donât want to force myself onto him when he doesnât want anything to do with me.â
âOkay, I wonât.â She pulled him in a hug that he very much needed. He rested his head on her shoulder and tightened his arms around her body as he cried to lighten the weight on his chest.
He was thinking about everything that Irvin said and how it made no sense to him because Irvin accused him of having a great plan but a plan for what? And why would his mother being here would be risky? Some things werenât adding up.
As Nora placed a hand on the back of Zadkielâs head, he sighed in relief because the warmth was enough to soothe his nerves. He closed his eyes in content but thenâ¦
âYou put a curse on a month-old baby? Killed your own beta and one of their pack members? Edmond how cruel you can get?â He heard Noraâs voice as she was yelling at her husband. He could see the expressions on Edmondâs face but Nora wasnât visible until he saw Edmond make his way to her.
âYes, I did and it was necessary to kill West in order to put the curse. Didnât you hear the prophecy? That kid is a threat to us. I wouldâve killed him but heâs just too powerful and heâs immortal.â Edmond replied.
âHeâs just a baby. For godâs sake, Des. Donât do it. Just think if it was our Irvin, would youâve done the same?â Nora questioned.
âWhy did you bring Irvin into this? My son is pretty normal. That kid possesses powers and heâd be the most powerful omega of history. Alphas would fear him. Heâd seek revenge for snatching away his land.â Edmond hissed in anger.
âDidnât you hear what she said about him being the kindest soul? He would wear his heart on sleeves and heâd be the most compassionate person. Heâd bring justice to the people who faced cruelty.â Nora placed her hand on Edmond to make him understand that.
âAnd that includes his own pack too. The prophecy clearly said heâd bring justice to his own pack. Heâd be the one of his kind. Powerful, Strong and Immortal.â He gave her a cold look.
âYou think you can get away with what youâve done by cursing a baby? Thatâs gonna be written in the list of sins youâve done. Show a little kindness and maybe heâd forgive you.â Nora pleaded.
âThe prophecy said heâd completely possess his powers when heâd turn into a werewolf on his 18th birthday and only then heâd become the most powerful omega. The curse that Rita put on him wouldnât let him turn and when a werewolf doesnât turn, it dies. I also didnât know about this until Rita told me about it.â Edmond smirked.
âYouâre a monster,â Nora said in disgust.
âIâll do anything to protect my pack.â Des seethed.
âYeah, well I hope your curse never works because the prophecy said that heâd possess half of his powers after finding his mate and I hope those powers are enough to make him stronger than ever.â She spat.
âIâll kill his mate.â
âWell, for that you have to find his mate and you wouldnât know about his mate until he finds it and when he finds it, heâd possess those powers. Just think how much powerful heâd be once heâd actually mate?â Nora fiercely said making Edmond glare at her.
âIâll make sure he stays in the dark. Iâll make sure thereâs no one to tell him what happened to his pack because Iâll kill all of them. Iâll make sure he never knows who he actually is.â Edmond spat, though he had it all planned already.
Nora pulled back, making Zadkiel open his eyes to look at her as she was staring at his face.
âI thought you fell asleep on my shoulder.â She chuckled. Zadkiel gave her a smile that didnât reach his eyes but it was all he had for now after what he saw.
âYou can rest here in my room if you want. Iâm going out.â Nora offered but Zadkiel instantly shook his head because Noraâs room meant, Edmondâs room and he didnât want to see his face. He also needed privacy after what he saw.
âIâll go take a stroll. I need to clear my head.â Zadkiel spoke, standing up and dusting his clothes.
âYou can sleep here tonight if you want. Iâll share the room with Des if I come back before dawn.â Nora offered him. Zadkiel frowned.
âWhat do you mean?â He questioned her.
âOh, Des and I⦠we ended things a few years ago. Like humans we canât take divorce because to an omega, alpha is important, I had to stay with my alpha to stay alive but weâre not on talking terms. Our rooms are separate.â Nora informed him. Zadkiel was surprised that he didnât pick it up during his stay because it was so clear that except few nights, Nora and Edmond always headed to separate rooms and they never talked much.
âI donât want to be the cause of any trouble. Iâll just head to the room I was assigned when I came here.â Zadkiel spoke, smiling at her.
âIt wouldnât be trouble. I wouldnât be using this room tonight anyway.â She said but it made Zadkiel blush.
âI didnât need to know that.â He chuckled with flushed cheeks.
âHey⦠I have something else to do.â She gave him a look. Zadkiel laughed.
âOkay. Iâll use your room tonight.â He didnât want to hurt her when she was asking so sweetly. She smiled.
âIâll see you in the morning,â Zadkiel spoke before placing a kiss on her forehead and then she headed out of the room.
