Zadkiel had informed Mark about his decision to go with Irvin. He didnât want to hide it. Of course, Mark tried to change his mind but Zadkiel was very much persistent that he wanted to go with him and thereâs nothing Mark could do to stop him.
Mark let him live in his dream for few days and was thinking of new strategies to make Zadkiel stay. He was well aware that Zadkiel must have thought something about Abel and thatâs why he was so confident in his decision.
Zadkiel was sitting with Hannah in her office and helping her with account details when Hannah looked up at him and saw him whistling while doing the work. She never saw him radiating this many happy vibes.
âYou look happy.â She looks back down on the register she was holding. Zadkiel stopped whistling and glanced at her.
âIs that a bad thing?â He smiled at her.
âNo. Itâs just I never saw you like this. So alive.â She commented, meeting his gaze and giving him a soft smile.
âI still donât see a problem in it.â Zadkiel shrugged, entering the data into the computer.
âJeez! Youâre being very secretive.â She chuckled at him. He didnât answer that.
âYouâre thinking about leaving this place?â These words of her caught his attention and he looked at her, eyes narrowed.
âTell me, sister, what happened to Levi and Elias?â Zadkiel folded his arms on his chest, giving her a questioning look.
âThey both are married and have kids now.â She turned her gaze down on the register.
âMarried to each other or married to some girls?â Zadkiel pressed the subject.
âOf course, to some girls. I donât understand why are you asking me that?â She spoke as if she didnât want to talk about the said subject.
âHow did you convince them to marry a girl? They were gay.â Zadkiel had now forgotten whatever the work he was doing.
âWe treated them first.â She answered him.
âTreated them?! They werenât sick! There was nothing wrong with them!â He growled at her, standing up.
âWhy are you so interested in it all of a sudden?â She scowled at him, unfazed.
âHow did you âtreatâ them?â Zadkiel air quoted the word tweet, glaring at her.
âI donât know and I think you shouldnât be interested in it as well. Go back to your bed.â She ordered but he was out of the bottle now.
âTell me what pain they had to go through to admit that they are cured?â He slammed his hands on the table, making her flinch. He was getting angrier by the second.
âWhatâs gotten into you? You were fine a few seconds ago?â She stood up and stared at him in horror.
âI just realized how you were so bothered by my happiness.â He was way too angry to understand if he was making any sense or not.
âI wasnât bothered. I was just stating it. And what does your happiness has anything to do with Levi and Elias?â She questioned, frowning at Zadkiel.
âNothing.â He muttered under his breath and stormed out of the room.
He sat on his bed, vibrating back and forth and trying to contain his anger. He just got triggered by the fact that he may get to live happily the rest of his days but Levi and Elias didnât. They were forced to get treatment.
âHey⦠I heard you argued with Sister Hannah?â He heard Abel. Zadkiel wasnât in the mood to talk and he questioned himself how Abel always knew what was going on with Zadkiel.
âZadkiel, what happened? I thought we liked her?â Abel sat beside him, resting his hand on his back.
âI just donât know but I got triggered by her question.â He murmured.
âOkay relax.â He handed him a glass of water from the side table. Zadkiel took a tiny sip from the glass before putting it back on the table.
âI may have caused more problems for myself.â Zadkiel sighed, lying back on the bed, horizontally.
âHow?â
âI asked her about Levi and Elias. I just got angry about how she was glad that I was happy but if I had told her the reason she wouldâve done the same to me that they did to Levi and Elias.â Zadkiel murmured. Abel lied down beside him.
âYou know she is going to tell Father about this and about the night when you called Irvin because I think she suspects you now,â Abel warned him of the danger coming, beforehand.
âThatâs why I said, I may have caused more trouble.â He huffed a breath. He didnât understand why he was so pissed off when he had an idea all along what couldâve happened to Levi and Elias. Maybe, it had to do something with the injustice that he was able to get what he wants but they didnât.
âZadkiel, Father is calling you.â He heard a voice which he recognized as Hayesâ, one of Fatherâs minions. He opened his eyes and stared at the ceiling for a while before sitting up.
âWatch him treat you in every way he can,â Abel commented.
âIâm not your normal human being. Nothing works on me. Letâs see what he got.â Zadkiel rose to his feet. He gave Abel one last assuring smile that heâd be fine and sprinted off to Markâs office. He entered the office without knocking.
âYou called me, father?â He stepped into the room. Sister Hannah was sitting on one of the chairs before Mark while he was standing on the other side of the desk.
âYes, come in.â He responded pretty normally. Zadkiel assumed everything was calm for now.
âI heard you asked about Levi and Elias. May I know the reason why?â He came straight to the point. Zadkiel stood behind a chair, didnât bother to take a seat.
âBecause I was curious,â Zadkiel replied pretty confidently because what could go wrong other than him being exposed.
âSister, I would like you to leave because I want to ask Zadkiel some personal questions,â Mark spoke to Hannah who didnât waste a second before obliging. Once Hannah was out of the door, Mark gestured towards the chair for Zadkiel to take it. He glided down on the chair and rested his clasped hand on his lap.
âIs that the reason youâre going with Mr Ford, Zadkiel?â Mark inquired. He seemed pretty content. No sign of anger on his face.
âI donât know what youâre talking about.â Zadkiel tried to play innocent. He wasnât scared but he still didnât want him to know. He would try to hide it until he has no choice but to tell him.
âMr Ford and you⦠what did you guys do on your first drive?â He asks now looking at him suspiciously.
âI told you that. He took me to the woods.â
âWhat did you two do there?â He further questioned. This one seemed to infuriate Zadkiel but he composed himself.
âTalked. I told you that as well.â He answered. Mark kept his mouth shut for few seconds, scrutinizing Zadkiel with his eyes.
âWhat you two are doing is a sin.â He then spoke. Zadkiel sucked in a sharp breath, trying to stay calm.
âYou mean, him helping me to get a life because Iâm a monster in your eyes?â Zadkiel cocked an eyebrow. Mark stood up, furiously slamming his palms on the desk and glaring at Zadkiel.
âYou know what Iâm talking about! Do you think I donât understand this?! I understand you more than you do yourself!â He snapped at Zadkiel.
âFather, I have no idea what youâre talking about.â Zadkielâs heart was now beating rapidly. He was losing his confidence but he just didnât let it show on his face.
âNow I understand why you called him in your heat! Now I understand how you knew he was in the building without even seeing him! Now everything makes sense because now I have connected the dots!â Mark spat. Zadkiel remained silent.
âYou and Irvin are mates! I donât know what that means or how that shit works but itâs what I read! You are not planning to get treatment. You are planning to live with him as a couple! Thatâs nasty!â He said this with so much disgust that Zadkiel couldnât hold it back anymore. He also jumped up from his seat and glared at Mark with the same intensity, making him flinch back.
âWhatâs wrong with that?! Itâs my life and I can do whatever I want with it!â Zadkielâs eyes were glowing again and his voice was deep and scary.
âThatâs the wrong way of living it. Itâs a sin that youâre committing!â He argued back without backing down.
âYou know what elseâs sin? You electrocuting two men trying to convert them into something they are not. You torturing them to an extent that they admit that they no longer have feelings for each other. Thatâs a sin, Father!â Zadkiel grunted in his rough voice.
âI cured them,â Mark muttered glaring at Zadkiel.
âIn what century youâre living in?! Have you not read that itâs not a disease that can be cured? Itâs not a psychological problem! Itâs a part of you. You canât just extract that out of you. Thereâs no way!â Zadkiel pulled his hands in fists on the table. He was trying hard to hold himself back.
âThey are normal now. They are living happily.â Mark was still persistent on his dumb wit.
âOh yeah? Ask them that! You mustâve traumatized them so much that they are even scared to go against what you taught them. I know for sure.â Zadkiel grumbled, sitting back on the chair.
âI wonât let you go with Irvin,â Mark uttered.
âWell, Iâd love to see you try,â Zadkiel spoke looking at his grown nails as if trying to threaten him.
âIs he the same as you?â Mark questioned, squinting his eyes.
âNo.â Zadkiel was quick to answer that. He couldnât put Irvin in any harm. âHe isnât but I assure you Iâm enough to handle you.â Zadkiel now threatened in words directly though he knew he wouldnât hurt a fly.
âDoes he know who you are?â Mark ignored the threat completely.
âIâve told him.â Zadkiel shrugged.
âYouâve told him exactly what?â
