Chapter 40

Y/N was just working in her office when her phone suddenly rang.

"Yes?"

"Y/N what are you doing?" Sana asked.

"I'm working. Is something wrong?"

"No, no. It's just you know how Dahyun's birthday is tomorrow right? I'm planning a surprise party for her so you should come as well."

"Where will it be?"

"My place. Everyone is coming, including Nayeon unnie." Sana smirked to herself.

"I don't know if that's a good idea. Dahyun is still awkward around me." The younger girl is still acting weird around her.

"Yah, what do you mean? I thought you all made up already? I heard that Tzuyu even cried before you made up."

"Tzuyu and I made up, but it looks like Dahyun is still mad with me." Y/N sighed.

"Don't worry about it. You should come tomorrow, I bet that will make her happy."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes, Y/N. You're her friend after all and see it as a chance to make up with her as well." Sana suggested.

"Fine, I'll come. Where are you though? I'm hearing loud noises in the background."

"I'm with the gang." Sana answered.

"Shouldn't you be teaching right now?" It's tuesday and school hasn't finished yet, why is she with her gang?

"I don't teach on tuesdays, Y/N-ie. I'm only a teacher on the other weekdays." Sana chuckled.

"Yeah, and you're a gangtser on the other three days." Y/N rolled her eyes.

"Exactly. But I need to go now Y/N-ie, the members are waiting."

"Alright, bye." And with that they ended their phone conversation. Y/N checked the time on her watch and it's almost 4, which means Nayeon should be here anytime. They're going to check the other apartment today.

"Is Ms. Im not here yet?" Y/N asked Irene who was the secretary for today.

"Nope. You seem like you can't wait to see her." Irene smirked.

"She's just our client nothing else."

"Yeah, right. Is that why you're blushing right now?" Y/N hid her cheeks immediately when Irene mentioned that.

"Unnie, stooop."

"Aish, Y/N. You're so cute." Irene caressed the younger's arm, right at that moment Nayeon walked in. Why is it that every time she walks into this office, she sees Y/N and Irene flirting? She doesn't like it at all.

"Oops, someone is glaring." Irene whispered to Y/N before she pulled her hand away from Y/N's arm.

"Oh, you're here already. Shall we go?"

"Yes." Nayeon said and they left the office. They went to the apartment and Nayeon liked this one as well, but she likes the first apartment more.

"So what do you think?" Y/N asked after she showed her the apartment.

"I want the first one."

"Great. I knew you would like the first one better." Y/N smiled. "I'll contact the owner and we'll start with everything so that you can move in as soon as possible."

"Thank you." Nayeon is happy that she can finally put an end on the search for a new home. Luckily Y/N has helped her a lot.

"No problem, it's my job. By the way, will you be going to Dahyun's birthday party tomorrow?" Y/N asked. She knows that Nayeon is going, but she still wanted to ask.

"Oh yeah, I'm going. How about you?"

"Me too."

"Then I'll see you tomorrow I guess?" Nayeon raised her eyebrows. She's actually happy that Y/N is going as well. She wants to see the younger girl every chance that she has.

"Yeah, see you tomorrow." Y/N smiled and they parted ways.

Y/N went to Sana's place early with her friends so that they can set up everything for the party. Y/N is somewhat nervous 1. Because she's still not 100% okay with Dahyun and 2. Because Nayeon will be here as well.

"Wait who did you invite anyways?" Y/N asked Sana who was stressing out because she wants everything to be perfect for her girlfriend's birthday.

"It's just you guys, Nayeon unnie and Jihyo." Y/N thought that there would be more people, but it's just their group of friends plus the teachers.

"Dahyun just texted me, she'll be here in 20 minutes. But aaah where are Jihyo and Nayeon unnie? I told them to come early aish." Sana got frustrated.

"Unnie, calm down. They'll be here, soon. Why don't you just sit down for a minute, yeah? We'll take care of the rest." Y/N suggested as she held Sana's arm and Sana just nodded. Mina and Momo glanced at each other when they saw Sana and Y/N interacting. Dahyun isn't the only one with suspicions about the two. Isn't it weird how well the two know each other? They act like they've known each other for a long time too. Mina is sure that there's more behind it, but she doesn't want to ask Y/N yet since the girl just came back and she doesn't want to chase her away by asking personal questions.

"Yah, where have you two been?" Sana asked as Jihyo and Nayeon walked in.

"Calm down. We're here aren't we? And just on time." Jihyo smiled.

"Why are you so nervous, Sana-ssi? Dahyun will definitely like this." Nayeon assured.

"I hope so. Okay, she's almost here. Let's just hide or something." They turned off the lights and all hid somewhere so that Dahyun wouldn't see them when she walks in.

"Unnie?" Dahyun said walking in. It's dark so she can't see anything. She decided to turn the lights on and suddenly everyone popped up.

"SURPRISE!" They all yelled and Dahyun actually got scared for a second.

"Yah! You guys startled me!" Dahyun said holding her hand against her chest.

"Sorry, baby. We didn't mean to scare you. Happy birthday." Sana smiled and kissed Dahyun's lips.

"That's just disgusting." Tzuyu exclaimed while everyone followed Sana and wished the birthday girl, happy birthday.

"Happy birthday, Dahyun-ah." Y/N smiled and so did Dahyun

"Thank you, Y/N." Of course Dahyun is happy that Y/N is here. She's happy that their group of friends is complete again.

"Let's partyyyyy." Momo yelled and everyone cheered. They put on some music and everyone started drinking, except for Y/N of course. She just sat at the corner and watched her friends having fun. She's never been the type of girl to party or to drink. She never had money to go out, so when someone asked her to go out she just told them that she doesn't like it. Which is partially true.

"Y/N unnie! Why are you sitting like that, come dance with us!" Chaeyoung yelled.

"No, no, no. I'm good." Y/N shook her head.

"Is it just me or are they being very loud?" Jihyo suddenly sat down next to Y/N.

"It's not just you. They are really loud." Y/N chuckled.

"I thought Sana and Nayeon unnie were the loudest people that I know, but Dahyun and Momo are getting veeeery close." Y/N could see that Jihyo was getting tipsy as well from the way she talked.

"They're usually not that loud when they drink. I think it's Sana unnie's influence." Sana is one of the brightest people that Y/N knows. When Sana walks into the room everything just gets louder and happier automatically.

"Nayeon unnie is being quiet though. is something wrong?" Y/N saw how Nayeon is also being quiet, which isn't that usual for Nayeon. She's normally the most chaotic out of everyone.

"Nah, she's been like that ever since last year." Jihyo answered. Nayeon saw how Y/N and Jihyo were talking in the distance and she got very curious. What are they talking about?

"Is it because of me? Should I just leave?" Y/N wants Nayeon to have fun. And if her being here is the reason why the teacher isn't having fun, then she'll leave.

"No, no. You leaving would be even more awkward. Don't take it personal, Nayeon unnie has been like this for a while."

"Ms. Park, can I ask you a question?"

"Yah, why do you call Sana, unnie, but me Ms. Park? Just call me unnie too." Jihyo pouted. She's obviously drunk.

"Okay, unnie. Sorry, it's just I'm used to calling you Ms. Park."

"But you're not used to calling Sana, Ms. Minatozaki?" Jihyo questioned and Y/N didn't know how to answer.

"No, It's just, I--, Uhm." Y/N scratched her head.

"Don't worry, Y/N. I know your past with Sana."

"W-what? You know?" Y/N raised her eyebrows.

"Yes. I also know about Sana being a part of you know.." Y/N didn't expect for Jihyo to know everything.

"You don't mind?" Y/N asked.

"No. I mean as long as she doesn't do anyone harm, I don't mind."

"Jihyo, can you help me with these plates?" Nayeon suddenly asked.

"I'm coming." Jihyo smiled and patted Y/N's shoulder. The party just continued and Y/N and Nayeon managed to have some fun as well. Not with each other of course. They barely looked at each other for the entire evening. Truth is, Nayeon looks very beautiful tonight and every time Y/N glances at her, her heart speeds. She wants her ex-girlfriend back so badly, but it's that promise and her lack of confidence that's getting in the way. She thinks she has not even the slightest chance to win Nayeon back. Especially not when she hasn't even fulfilled her promise yet. Without noticing Y/N was staring at Nayeon for like a whole minute.

"She might burn if you keep staring at her like that." Mina suddenly came standing next to Y/N.

"I wasn't staring."

"Yeah, right. You were actually a pretty good liar back in the day, but you suck now." Mina chuckled.

"Why don't you go talk to her?" Mina has noticed how Y/N and Nayeon didn't talk at all ever since they came here.

"Look how she's smiling, Mina-yah. That smile will fade when I talk to her."

"Why would it fade? She's been glancing at you for hours, she obviously wants you to approach her."

"Do you think so?" Y/N asked.

"I'm 100% sure, so why don't you just go talk to her huh? I bet her smile will be even wider when you talk to her." Even though Mina is sure about that, Y/N isn't. I mean why would Nayeon want her to approach her? She really has no reason to.

Just when Y/N was about to say something, her phone buzzed indicating that she got a message.

Can you come to my room? I need to ask you something. (Sana)

Y/N did as she was told and went to Sana's room making sure that no one saw her.

"Why are you here?" Y/N asked.

"I'm gonna have to ask you a favour." Sana said nervously. She knows Y/N won't accept this, but she has no choice right now.

"What is it?"

"I got a call from Taehyung. They're on some sort of mission and they need these keys. I can't bring them to him right now, because I don't want Dahyun to get suspicious." Sana explained showing the keys.

"And what does that have to do with me?" Y/N got confused.

"Can you please bring them to him?"

"There's no way I'll be doing that. I told you that I want nothing to do with that gang." Y/N shook her head. She can't believe Sana is really asking her this.

"Y/N please. I would bring it myself, but I can't leave Dahyun right now. She's gonna have questions if I leave like this." Sana pleaded.

"Just say that you're going to the store to buy extra drinks or something." Y/N suggested.

"Do you really think they would let me go? I'm sure someone is going to try to take over, besides this might take a bit longer than just going to the store."

"Aish, how long are you going to keep lying? You know you can't lie like this for the rest of your life. Just tell her the truth." Y/N crossed her arms.

"You know I can't, Y/N. I don't mind putting my own life at risk by being in that gang, but I would never, NEVER, put Dahyun's life at risk just because I'm a fucking gang member, do you understand that? I love her a lot and there's no way I'm letting her get involved with this. Besides I don't want us to end up like you and Nayeon unnie." Y/N was taken aback by Sana's last sentence. She does understand where Sana is coming from. She wants to protect her girlfriend at all costs, but why is she suddenly talking about her own past relationship?

"For your information, my relationship with Nayeon unnie didn't end because I'm a gangster, it ended because I'm an asshole, okay? She knew I was related to a gang before we even started dating, so don't compare this to us. Nayeon unnie accepted me for who I am. If you had told Dahyun that you're a gangster before you started dating, then I'm sure she would've accepted you as well. But since you decided to lie to her and have been lying to her for months, I don't think she'll forgive you that easily when she finds out." Y/N is getting a bit annoyed with Sana's behavior. It's typical gangster's behaviour that she has seen many times.

"Fine, if you don't want to bring them, I'll ask Jihyo or Nayeon unnie." Of course Sana isn't going to ask Jihyo or Nayeon to bring the keys. It's too dangerous for them. But she knows that Y/N will do the favour just for the sake of the two teacher's. And yes it worked.

"You know what, I'll save you this time and I'll bring the keys. Don't think that I'm doing this because I agree with you lying to Dahyun, I'm bringing these because I feel guilty towards everyone, including you." Y/N said as she grabbed the keys from Sana's hand and left the room.

"Where are you going?" This is the first time that Nayeon talked to Y/N all evening. All the girls agreed to sleep over at Sana's place, so where is Y/N going to? And that at midnight?

"I'm going to the store, to get some extra drinks." Y/N answered.

"You shouldn't go alone, it's late."

"I'll be fine, just continue to have fun. I'll be right back." Nayeon wanted to protest, but before she even could, Y/N already left the house.

Dahyun saw Y/N going out of Sana's room and she's trying to figure out what they're hiding from her. They're obviously hiding something. She really wants to ask them about it, but not now. She's too drunk to do that right now, so she just shrugged it off for the moment.

Y/N went to the place where Sana told her that Taehyung would be. She hasn't seen Taehyung ever since she left and of course she's feeling nervous. He was her best friend after all. She has so many great memories with him and she misses him a lot.

"Y/N? It's really you?" Taehyung approached Y/N.

"Wah, Sana told me that you came back but I didn't think I'd seen you so soon." Taehyung knows that Y/N is back, but he didn't visit her since he knows that Y/N probably wouldn't want that.

"Yeah, I'm back oppa. Here are the keys."

"Thank you, just on time. You should leave now, it can be dangerous if you stay here." Y/N just nodded.

"Oh Y/N, is it okay if I call you sometime? You know I missed you." Taehyung really did miss Y/N. He has always treated her like his little sister and she's been there for him when he was having a hard time.

"I missed you too, oppa. I'll call you." Y/N smiled weakly.

"Great, now go fast." Taehyung gestured her to leave. He's on a mission now, so he can't have Y/N being here.

Before Y/N went back to Sana's place she went to the store to buy some drinks. They don't even need extra drinks since there's enough but she needs an excuse on why she left in case the girls ask.

"Y/N is baaaaccckkk!" Momo yelled when Y/N entered the house. It's even more chaotic now than before she left.

"Why did it take you so long?" Dahyun asked yelling.

"I got lost." Bad excuse, Y/N. Bad excuse. But thankfully, no one asked any further questions.

"Where's Nayeon unnie?" Y/N asked Chaeyoung. She noticed that the teacher isn't around.

"Hmm, not sure. She was here like 5 minutes ago. Maybe bathroom?" So Y/N went upstairs to see if Nayeon is still here and she saw the girl sitting on a couch beside the window watching the view. Sana's place is located at a very nice place with a pretty nice view. Y/N is glad that Sana doesn't live in the gangster neighbourhood anymore, even though she's still a gangster.

"Instead of watching her like that, go talk to her." Tzuyu suddenly popped up behind Y/N startling her.

"Yah, are you following me?" Y/N whisper yelled.

"No, I went to the bathroom and saw you creeping around Nayeon unnie." Tzuyu smirked.

"I'm not creeping around her."

"Just go talk to her, unnie. I know you want it. Don't be shy and just talk to her. What's holding you back?"

"Many things, Tzuyu-ah." Y/N sighed.

"Well, if you won't talk to her, then I'll make you talk to her." Tzuyu smirked before pushing Y/N towards Nayeon and running away.

"Y/N?" Nayeon asked when she saw Y/N behind her. Y/N wanted to run, but it's too late. Nayeon already saw her.

"Ms. Park asked me to check if you're here." Y/N lied.

"Oh, yeah. I'm here."

"C-can I join you?" Y/N gained some confidence and asked to which Nayeon nodded.

"The view is really nice." Y/N said sitting down next to Nayeon.

"Yeah it is. Ever since Sana moved here, I've been coming here a lot just to sit here and watch the view."

"I can see why." Y/N smiled weakly and after that an awkward silence followed.

"Y/N, why are you so uncomfortable around me?" Nayeon asked out of the blue.

"I..., why do you think I'm uncomfortable around you?" Y/N isn't uncomfortable around Nayeon. She just doesn't know how to approach the older girl.

"I can see it. It's like you're avoiding me. Every time I catch you looking at me, you immediately look away and you also don't talk to me except if I talk to you first." Nayeon explained. It's true that Y/N doesn't talk to her, unless Nayeon talks to her first. It's all because she's ashamed to face her.

"I didn't want to make you uncomfortable, but I guess that's exactly what I'm doing."

"Just act normal around me Y/N. You won't make me uncomfortable. Don't worry about that." Nayeon can see how considerate Y/N is. Y/N has always been considerate of Nayeon. She always put her girlfriend first, but the problem was that she was only considerate of her girlfriend and no one else.

"How can I act normal around you un? I can't just act like nothing has happened, because it has. I feel guilty and I have a lot of regrets that I just can't ignore. To be honest with you, I can't even face you because of how bad of a girlfriend I was to you. I'm just ashamed." Y/N admitted.

"You weren't a bad girlfriend, Y/N. You're not the only one with regrets, I have regrets as well. I don't regret breaking up with you, because if I hadn't done that, then you probably wouldn't have been where you are right now. I mean look at you, you look so much healthier and I can see you've changed."

"Then what do you regret?"

"I regret not telling you that you were actually a good girlfriend. I made you believe that you treated me like shit, which isn't true. I made you think you were a bad girlfriend, but you were not. You took care of me and you were protective over me. You always put me first in every situation. I regret not telling you that the problem wasn't with our relationship, but with how you were outside the relationship and how you were towards other people." Nayeon explained, Y/N was silent and just stared at Nayeon while the older girl was just looking at the view.

"Unnie, I hurt you a lot. I made you cry a lot. I lied to you as well. And I even pushed you that one day. How can you say that I wasn't a bad girlfriend?" Y/N shook her head. She's done so many things wrong. She was literally the worst girlfriend in her own eyes.

"If you were a bad girlfriend then I was a bad girlfriend as well. I still remember everything you told me the last day I saw you. Instead of helping you and giving you time, I pushed you and rushed you to become a better person. I still think about that until this day. I was stupid to not see that I was in the wrong as well. I wasn't a very good girlfriend either, Y/N-ah. And yes you did push me, but I slapped you a couple of times as well, which I shouldn't have done. I should've dealt with you better. I always forgot that you're just a teenager and I ignored that you were going through a hard time." Nayeon looked down.

"Do you think our relationship was toxic?"

"I think we ended it right before it got toxic." Nayeon answered and Y/N nodded indicating that she agrees.

"Y/N why are you around? I don't mean it in a bad way, but I just didn't think you would come back. From what I've heard you've been hanging out with your friends a lot and it seems like you don't hold grudges against Sana anymore."

"I realised that life is too short to hold grudges. My friends and Sana unnie were the ones that helped me and have always been by my side, but I treated them like shit. So that's why I'm around. To pay them back for everything that they did for me. I wasn't planning on coming back, but the day you walked into the office, I knew the universe send me a sign telling me that I should fix everything." The way Y/N talks now is very mature and she's explaining herself pretty well. Y/N never talked about her feelings and her thoughts in the past. Nayeon knows at this point, that she's falling for Y/N again. Everything that Nayeon disliked about Y/N, seems like it has disappeared, so how can she not fall for her again?

"So you're not back because of that promise?" Nayeon was hoping that Y/N is around because she fulfilled her promise that she made to Nayeon.

"The promise? You remember that?" Y/N raised her eyebrows.

"Of course I remember that. It was the very last thing you said to me."

"When I left the only thing I thought about was how I was gonna fulfil that promise. I know I told you that I was gonna show up after I fulfilled that promise, but that didn't happen. I'm sorry unnie. We met too early. I haven't fulfilled my promise yet, my plan was to show up after I became 100% stable."

"I'm on my way though, I think I have improved a lot and I am confident that I will fulfil that promise one day but it hasn't happened yet. I don't know how long it's gonna take, but I owe it to myself to fulfil that promise. I always knew that even when I came back as a person that you deserve there was a risk of you dating someone else or not wanting me back. I'm also not expecting you to wait for me or anything, but like I said, I owe this to myself. If I made a promise, then I'm gonna fulfil it. I'm not a girl of empty promises." Y/N shook her head. Nayeon didn't expect this from Y/N. She thought that the teenager just forgot about it and wouldn't even remember it, but Y/N just proved her wrong.

"Maybe me walking into that office was a sign that you actually already have fulfilled that promise. Why do you think you're not ready yet?" In Nayeon's eyes this is enough. Y/N seems like she is a good person now and Nayeon doesn't need more than this. But then again, she doesn't know what happens behind the scenes. All of this still may be an act.

"There's a couple of things that I still want to do before I can say that I became a person that you deserve. But it's too soon to say what I'm planning. I will tell you in the near future, if I succeed." Nayeon doesn't know what Y/N is talking about. What is Y/N planning? She just decided to shrug it off for now. The two continued to talk for hours and it seems like the awkwardness is slowly disappearing. After talking for hours, they eventually fell asleep on the couch.
