Harri's POV
"I swear to god, Jazz," I groan answering the phone.
"HARRI! IT HAPPENED! IT FINALLY EFFING HAPPENED!"
Jazz swore this must be serious. I sit up and check the time. Four twenty one am. "Is everything okay?" I ask concerned.
"HARRIET HARLOW, IT HAPPENED!"
"Jazz, calm your farm and tell me what happened," I say my voice steady and reassuring.
She audibly sucks in a breath. "Harri, listen to me. It finally happened. Jax slid into my DM's."
"That's nice Jazz. Can I go back to sleep now?" I request relieved that it wasn't something sinister.
"NO! YOU CANNOT GO BACK TO BED." I pull the phone away from my ear as she continues to scream, "YOU NEED TO REVEL IN THIS WITH ME!"
"Revel in what, Jazz? It's four am."
"Harri. You don't get it. Jax, the love of my life, sent me, Jasmine Lee, a direct message on Twitter. He knows who I am, Harri. He knows I exist," she cries.
I think she might actually be hyperventilating. I tentatively place the phone back against my ear, "okay. Why?"
"What?"
"Why did he send you a message," I question again calmly.
"Why does it matter?
I reach over and turn the lamp on. Clearly, I'm not going back to sleep anytime soon. "Jazz, tell me the story."
She rambles for a few minutes about how she was having trouble sleeping and had started reading a Sax fanfic to make her eyes tired and something told her to check Twitter.
"So you checked Twitter?" I prod trying to get the story moving along quicker.
"So I checked Twitter and there it was."
I feel my eyelids getting heavy as I try my hardest to stay awake, "what did it say, Jazz?"
"It said that the band had been stalking fan accounts and that they have seen how I had been loyal and they were sending me some merch and I just needed to send them my address," she spits out without stopping to breath.
"Wait!" I hold my hand up, before realising that she can't see me through the phone and place it back under the covers where is it warm. "How do you know it's the real Jax and not a fake account?"
"Harri, I might be blonde but I'm not an idiot. It has his verified tick. IT'S HIM!"
"Oh! So he really did message you...."
I'm almost sure I hear her facepalm herself, "yes, H. that's what I have been saying."
"Okayyy, so what did you reply?"
She giggles and I'm almost scared to hear her answer. "I wrote..."
"Jazz, it four thirty in the morning there is no need to pause for dramatic effect. Just spit it out."
She chuckles again, "I wrote....new phone, who dis?"
"You didn't?" I scoff almost choking on the words.
"Oh but I did, Harri."
I can't help but laugh. Only Jazz would finally get a message from her celebrity crush only to write that.
"Has he replied?" I ask as the end of the phone goes quiet, "Jazz? Are you there?"
I hear a high pitched squeal that sounds like a kettle releasing steam, "YES! We've been messaging for the last three hours."
"Really?"
"I know, Harri. I know," she squeals.
I know I am not going back to sleep because knowing Jazz as well as I know her, I know that I am about to have every message recited to me, word for word. I lean back onto my pillows and pull the covers up under my neck. "Tell me everything, Jazz," I say with as much enthusiasm as I can muster.
A few hours later I'm wearily brushing my hair from eyes. The blonde regrowth is getting worse, to the point that pulling it back into a ponytail is no longer covering it. I write my Mum a note asking her to book me an appointment with the salon and head out the door.
It's freezing. It is not even Winter yet but there is a chill in the air. I pull my beanie down over my ears and wrap my scarf tighter around my neck, making sure to pull it up all the way over my chin.
"Jesus Jazz, you look like a unicorn threw up on you?" I mutter in reference to the tie-dye T-shirt, blue arm warmers and green vans sneakers she is wearing when I meet her at the school gates. "Aren't you cold?"
"Harri. I can't. I just can't today," she exclaims jumping around like the floor is lava.
"I have no idea what you just said. Are you on drugs," I ask not entirely joking.
She pulls her red heart-shaped glasses onto the tip of her nose and looks me straight in the eye, "the only thing I'm high on right now, Bestie, is life!"
I am not sure I believe her, I mean the girl is wearing sunglasses while the rest of us are so rugged up we look like we're heading to an alpine base camp.
She pushes her glasses back onto her face and spins around in a circle. I grab her arms and hold them down by her sides. "Jazz. You woke me up at four am. I love you but if you're going to have this much energy today then we can't be friends."
"But I bought you coffee!" She shouts as she picks up a cup that she had placed on the ground next to her bag. She thrusts it into my hand and grins, "am I forgiven?"
I give her a side-eyed look and grab hold of the cup. "Forgiven yes. But fair warning I am not responsible for my actions once the caffeine wears off," I tease as I take a gulp.
She drags my free hand, "noted. Now let's get to class."
"Are you sure you don't want to stop and smell the roses?" I mutter sarcastically.
"No thanks. I've have my own roses at home to smell whenever I want, thanks to Jackson's delivery yesterday."
"Ah, Jackson. And Jax. What is a girl to do..."
She giggles, "I know right? How did that even happen? I'm gonna have to be careful not get them mixed up, especially since their names are so similar."
I am happy for her, but a part of me feels a twinge of sadness for Jackson. I know she's been in love with Jax for years but I can't help but think her and Jackson were made for each other.
"So what are you gonna do?" I ask as casually as possible.
She pulls a pack of gummy worms from her bag, "you know I was just thinking about that."
"Are you stressed about it?" I question as she stuffs a handful of worms into her mouth.
She looks at me with surprise as she chews her way through another handful of sugary covered treats, "what makes you say that?" I look at the half-eaten packet, then at her, then back at the half-eaten packet, "what?" she confutes spitting bits of gummy as she speaks.
"Nothing. My mistake," I smirk.
She pushes me through the door to Mr Grayson's class, "shut up!"
We manage to not only arrive at class on time but also manage to avoid any further detentions. And save for my eyeballs almost dropping out of my head from tiredness, and my fingers almost dropping off from frostbite, the rest of the day goes without incident.
I make my way wearily towards the school gates thinking about nothing other than getting into my nice warm bed and sleeping for the next twelve hours. Staring at my feet, I don't even notice the group of boys milling around the car park until I feel a bump on my shoulder. "Hey, Harlow. Mr Grayson wasn't wrong about the Stang! She's a beauty."
I look up and see Jamison's perfectly chiselled jaw smiling back at me. "The Stang?" I ask confusion etched on my face.
He doesn't answer instead he steps to the side clearing the way enough for me to see the glisten of red paint and shiny chrome bumper of a Mustang. I take a few paces forward to where my brother and Erik with a K are standing.
Leaning on wheel arch of the car, talking to my brother is a tallish boy, wearing ripped black skinny jeans, a red hoodie, black beanie pulled over his ears and black scarf pulled up to over his mouth, not dissimilar to the way I am currently wearing my beanie and scarf. The only bit of skin visible is the tip of his nose and his eyes.
While I have never seen his face without makeup or through an unbroken phone screen I don't have to look hard to know that those piercing green eyes belong to SJ.
"Hey, I didn't know you were coming," I say unable to hide my smile.
The sound of my voice causes the conversation to come to complete halt. Even the row of girls standing to the right of my brother, stop and stare.
Honestly he can't go anywhere without his own personal cheer squad.
SJ looks up at the sound of my voice and stretches his arms out inviting me in for a hug, "and here I was thinking you missed me."
I've never been one for public displays of affection but seeing the disgusted look on Erik with a K and the random girl's faces, is worthwhile enough for me to forget that on this occasion. "If I recall correctly I said maybe I missed you," I tease as I slide into his inviting arms and feel my body temperature rise instantly.
"And on that note, I am going," Theo mutters. "Want me to tell the parentals you're with Jazz?" he asks turning on his heel.
"Yes please Theo," I grin as the group, leave following their Alpha Male.
I turn back to face SJ who grips me tighter around the waist, 'You're nose is red. You like a drunk," he taunts as he kisses the tip.
"I do not!" I protest as I pull him down by his neck for a proper kiss.
"I'm surprised to see you here," I say pulling away.
"I can go if you like?"
I grab him even tighter around waist and look up at him, "don't you dare!"
He runs his hands over my hair, no doubt looking at my re-growth, and looks me in the eye. "Let's go somewhere, I want to tell you something."
Entering panic mode in 3, 2....
"Don't look so scared it's nothing bad. Umm... I don't think." he says, as he opens the door for me.
