Wanna see the sunrise? Part 2

Secret Identity (completed)2,422 words~13 min read

Harri's POV

What a night? I can't actually believe this is happening. I mean when I got ready and put on my costume for the Halloween fundraiser I thought it was going to be the worst and most lonely night of my life. Yet here I am walking up a grassy hill hand in hand with SJ, my boyfriend, to watch the sunrise. Things couldn't be any better.

Well, that might actually be a lie, I think as the sound of Jazz screaming penetrates my brain. "Jackson put her down," SJ grumbles annoyed by the disturbance of the peace.

"No! It's the only way that I can get her up the hill since she is too lazy to walk herself. Isn't that right, Jazz Apples?" he calls out over his shoulder to Jazz who is clinging to his back like a koala.

"I could get used to this," she giggles with yet another high pitched squeal. She uses her feet and gently kicks him in the side while slapping him on the backside as if she is riding a horse. "Giddyup, Jackson!" she instructs.

Jackson obliges putting his head down and making a run for the summit all the while 'neighing', almost dropping her in the process.

"What do you think, Jazz Apples...nice view?" he asks placing her feet gently on the grass once they reach the top.

"Stop calling me that Jackson!" she demands, slapping him playfully on the arm.

He flashes her a cheeky grin. The painted Joker makeup cracks along the same lines which were left behind by his previous smiles. "Shhh," he teases. Jokingly putting his index finger to her lips shushing her instantly. "You love it! Anyway, everyone knows horses love apples so it kind of fits the situation, don't you think?"

Jazz doesn't answer, at least not with words, but the twirling of her hair between her fingers is pretty good indication that she feeling it just as much as he is.

As SJ and I reach the top I feel my breath literally leave my lungs. The view is nothing short of spectacular. "How do you know about this place?" I ask SJ.

He wraps his arms around me and pulls me close until I am pressed against his body, my left ear resting on his shoulder, my head tilted sideways facing the skyline. "My Dad and I used to come up here. He used to say that life was all about perspective and that to really understand how small your problems are, you have to first understand how big the world is. "

I feel the vibration of his voice through his chest which reverberates directly to my ear. "Sounds like a smart man," I hum as I take in the lights and the night sky before me.

"That he was," Jackson adds fondly, as he plonks down onto the grass, not so gently dragging Jazz down with him.

I smile thinking about SJ's and Jackson's relationship. I wonder what it would be like to have friends that have known you for most of your life. I guess I have Theo, but it's not really the same. We didn't really hang out much growing up and when we did it was mostly just him torturing me. Although I do have some good memories, like a few pretty epic water fights during the Summer months.

I snuggle in closer to SJ, breathing in his aroma. It's calming. A cross somewhere between a Tom Ford fragrance and boy, and not boy in a bad way. Boy, in a good way. Boy in a cool way.

Then again it could be the fact that there is no noise from the road below, only the sound of the wind gently whistling through the trees and the occasional chirping of a bird. Either way, I feel the calmest I have in weeks and judging by the smile on Jazz's face and the fact that I have not seen a gummy worm near her mouth for days I am guessing she feels the same.

SJ and I take a seat next to Jackson and Jazz, who are sitting side by side. Her head resting on his shoulder while they discuss who would play each other in a movie based on their lives. And again, by discuss, I mean argue. Apparently, Jackson doesn't agree with Jazz's casting of Jack Black in the role of him. "No way, Jazz Apples. It definitely needs to be someone more ruggedly handsome. Someone like Ryan whats-his-name..."

Ignoring them, SJ moves me so that I am sitting in front of him, between his legs. I lean back and place my head into the groove of his neck. Accepting me into his space he runs his hand through my hair pushing it off my face before he gently kisses my forehead. I know I've only known SJ less than twelve hours in person, but this just feels right. Like he was made just for me.

"What time is sunrise?" Jackson asks frustrated by Jazz's insistence that he has a weak chin and that anyone who played him would need to take this into consideration.

I check in with Google. The wifi signal is weak and it takes ages to load the page. "In about twenty minutes," I confirm as Jazz continues to tease Jax about his weak chin, even telling him that if he wanted an example of a strong chin he should look to Jax from Gate Thirty Four. The comment at least earned a hearty laugh from Jackson who seemed to think it much funnier laughing harder than the comment warranted.

"Shall we play 'Two Truths, One Lie' while we wait?" Jackson suggests while holding his hand over his mouth trying to obscure his chin from view.

"What are we? tTwelve?" SJ mutters sarcastically.

I can't help but laugh. "I don't think I've ever played..."

"It's easy. Each of us says three things about ourselves. Two are real and one isn't, and then we try and guess which is which," Jackson explains.

"I'm down," Jazz chirps, moving so that we're in something that resembles a circle or at least something that means we are all facing each other with the exception of SJ and me who are still sitting together like we're in a bobsled.

"Okay, you start," SJ instructs Jackson, threading his fingers between mine.

Jackson extends his legs in front of himself and leans back on his hands looking up at the stars. "Alright, here goes. One, I can't swim. Two, my best friend and I are about to move in together. Three, I once got invited to a Hollywood party full of A-list celebrities and got so drunk that I threw up in the hosts' pot plant before passing out on their lawn. I never told them about the pot plant but heard weeks later than he was basically going mad looking for the source of vomit smell which would waft through his house every so often."

"Can I answer?"  SJ asks.

"No. Because I know you know." Jackson replies with a smirk.

I look to Jazz who has her thinking face on. "I'm going to say the second one is the lie."

I feel SJ chuckle from behind me,"no that's actually true. Jackson and I are going to move in together when we get back from tour."

"Jackson's a stripper too?" I tease, a cover for the surprise I feel not knowing that Jackson works with SJ.

Jackson's jaw drops, "what the fu...frangellico? No. I'm not a stripper!" he emphatically denies.

"Of course you're not," Jazz coos placing a comforting hand on Jackson's arm.

"Thanks, Jazz Apples," Jackson says satisfied that the case is closed.

Something about Jazz's face tells me that's not the case. "What I mean you couldn't possibly be a stripper with that weak af chin," she blurts out in hysterics at her own joke.

I watch Jackson's face as her registers her comment, "HEY!"

This only gets Jazz more worked up, so much so that she ends up laughing so hard she loses her balance and rolls backwards partway down the hill, her bangles clanging as she rolls.

"Well, I think this game is over now. Thanks, Jazz Apples!" Jackson pouts extending his arms to push a still laughing Jazz further down the hill.

"And in case you were wondering the first one was a lie. I actually can swim and I did get drunk at a party and vomit in the guy's pot plant," he adds.

Jazz finally manages to compose herself, sitting back in her spot. Jackson kindly helps to pull the random bits of grass from her hair.

Given that the only light they're working with comes from the lights of the houses below and the faint glow of the moon they do a pretty good job at removing each blade of grass.

"So what is that you two actually do?" Jazz asks.

I feel SJ tense up behind me and see Jackson's eyes bulge, "Umm SJ, you wanna take this one?" Jackson says deflecting.

"We're in the music industry," SJ says as if that explains it all.

Jazz gives him one of her famous eye rolls and throws her bangle clad arms in the air, "I know that much, but it what capacity?" she prods.

I stay quiet hoping that I might actually finally get some answers.

"That's a story for another day," SJ says swerving away from the question. Yet again.

"Drug mule," Jazz sings under her breath.

"Look the sun is coming up," Jackson interjects, ignoring Jazz and pointing at the town below us.

I'd argue but he is right. The first rays of the day are peaking out from the edges.

I feel SJ let out a deep breath as he wraps his arm around my chest. "This has been the best night of my life," he whispers. A shiver runs up my spine when his warm breath hits my ear.

"Mine too," I whisper back making sure that Jazz and Jackson can't hear us. Given that they've started arguing about Jackson's weak chin again, I figure I'm in the clear.

We all watch in silence as the sun rises. The warm glow highlights the patches where SJ's make up has completely worn off. "Much better," I say running my finger under his eye clearing a smudge. "I can't wait to see what you look like without all of this on your face."

"Right back at you my Queen," he says smiling.

Shortly after we are all walking wearily down the hill back to Jackson's car. "I'll drive us back to parking lot and grab my car and take you home Harri. Jazz are you okay to drive yourself home?" SJ asks.

"Sure. But since Harri is meant to be staying at mine it's probs best if I drive her home and then you and Jackson can follow each other home," Jazz suggests as we get in the car.

"Yeah you're probably right," he answers deflated. A part of me hopes it's because he wants to spend more time with me. "At least sit up the front with me, Harri?" he suggests.

Despite it being Jax's car he seems happy to sit in the back,  even opening the door for me. I'm guessing it has more to do with Jazz being in the back more than him being generous.

SJ and I talk the whole way home, with the occasional sarcastic interruption from the backseat which stops after about twenty minutes. I turn around in my seat to find the cause and see that both Jackson and Jazz have passed out and are sleeping on each other's shoulders. Mouths wide open, and even a gentle snore coming from Jackson. I take a picture of them both with my phone because I'm sure it will come in handy for blackmailing them someday, but accidentally forget to turn off the flash and light up the whole car like we're at a rave. I panic and put my phone away thinking that I would have woken them, however, I needn't have worried because even that is not enough to wake the two of them.

We pull up at the Cafe car park alongside Jazz's car a short while later. I grab my bag and silently open the door, where I am greeted by SJ who pretty much ran over to my side of the car.

"I'm not sure I'm ready for the night to be over," I pout looking down at the ground, moving a non-existent pebble with my foot.

SJ gently places his index finger under my chin forcing me to look up. "Royalty should always hold their heads high," he says smiling.

"And why is that?"

He pulls me into a hug, his arms are so long they could almost wrap around me twice. "Because my Queen, if you're looking down your Crown will fall off," he whispers placing my costume crown back on my head.

"Haha! So cheesy," I tease, going in for one last kiss.

"Haven't you two had enough of that already?" Jazz mutters opening the car door.

"Look who's awake," I counter, slightly annoyed by the interruption.

She raises her brow in jest, "whatever Harri just get in the car," she says cheekily as she unlocks her door.

"You're just going to leave me?" Jackson cries at Jazz wearily as he hops out of his car via the same door she did.

"Here's my number, weirdo. Text me!" She sings, offering him her hand for a fist bump.

Jackson, clearly unimpressed with the offer grabs her fist and pulls her towards him, before kissing her on the cheek. "You're the weirdo! And I'm here for it!" I can't be sure but I think I see Jazz blush.

"Right! If we're all done..." SJ interjects trailing off.

"Bye SJ," I say hoping into Jazz's passenger seat.

"Until next time, Harri."

Author's note:

Hello magical people. How are you all doing?

How was that for one EPIC date night?

These guys are so much fun to write! Did you like that? How are Jazz and Jax? and Harri and SJ? And Senna and Jax?" All the ships!

So I'm at the tennis all this week but I'm loving writing so much that I'll probably have another update later this week (hoping Friday). Just plotting ideas 😈😈😈. Part of me wants Harri and Jazz to figure it out but part of me loves the innocence of it all.
