Senna's POV
"Who's Harri, then?" a husky voice questions, half waking me a few hours later.
I rub my eyes. "What?" I ask still drowsy.
"I said, who is Harri? And what's this.... a finsta, huh?"
My eyes start to focus and I see Jax standing above me, one hand on his hip the other holding my phone. What is he doing here? What do I say? How do I answer? I run through all the different scenarios but come up empty.
"It's not, uh.... It's not what it looks like," I stammer. Sitting up on the end of the bed I adjust the pillow and attempt to change the subject by turning the tables on him, "and what are you doing in my room?"
Flinging his free hand up in the air he flicks his wrist as if to dismisses my question. "It's not what? A private Insta account?"
I roll my eyes at him and shake my head, in part out of annoyance and in part of disbelief or perhaps it is out of hurt. If there was anyone who I thought would have been cool with this with it would have been Jax. I mean we've always called ourselves brothers from different mothers but I guess things really have changed been us. This fact hits in me deep down in my core winding me to the point where I have to suck in a solid breath and count slowly to ten on release.
"Jesus Sen, you should see your face," he says throwing his head back in a fit of laughter, pulling me from my self deprecating thoughts. "Don't worry, I won't say anything, I'm just messing with you. I've got your back. We're brothers, remember?"
I let out the last of the breath and feel the blood rush back to my cheeks. When I don't say anything he takes that as his cue to continue. "Just don't let Zander catch you with that, you know how he feels about things like this."
He swipes his hand across his mousy brown hair pushing it back under his cap before handing me my phone. "AND to answer your question I'm here so we can hang out. Pizza and FIFA. Aka PIFA, rememberrrrr?"
I grab my phone out of his hand and subtly check to see if Harri has replied before tucking it safely into the pocket of my sweatpants and out reach from any further snooping. "Yeah, I remember. But that wasn't meant to be until tonight," I reply in annoyance.
"Um... Sen, It's seven pm. I have been calling you for an hour!" he half shouts, his voice strained with frustration.
I look to the hotel alarm clock sitting on the bedside table, it's digits glowing bright red as if mocking me to display the time as four minutes past seven. "Oh, I must have slept all day."
Not one to give him the satisfaction of being right I continue to be defensive. "Anyway, how'd you get in my room?"
A mischievous sparkle flashes through his blue eyes, his lips curving slightly. "I can be pretty persuasive when I want to be. Wink wink nudge nudge."
I can't help but let out a laugh. This is typical trademark Jax. "Persuasive, huh? Did you bribe the maid again?"
"Meeeee? Neverrrr." He replies feigning innocence. I raise my brow in disbelief and he smirks. "Well, it's not bribery if we both get something out of it."
"Uh yeah Jax it is. That might actually be the definition of bribery."
"Ergh details smetails, Sen. Anyway we're not in exactly running the country here. Plus who said I didn't just use my charm?"
"Charm? You?" I splutter noticing the pink lip shaped hue located on his face positioned perfectly between his ear and nose. "Well, I guess that does explain the lipstick on your cheek."
He gives me a wicked look from under the rim his hat. "Exactly, charrrrrmmm. Something you my awkward friend know nothing about! Anyway, I'm starving, what pizza do you want? And if you say pineapple I'm going to have to hurt you!"
"Oh yeah?" I challenge. "I'd like to see you try!"
I drag him onto the bed by his arm to playfully wrestle with him just like the old times. He puts up a bit of fight even going so far as to try and peck me like a chicken, using the peak of his cap as a beak but ultimately I am able to overpower him and wrangle him into a headlock.
He protests and taps out after a few short moments. I release him but only once he acknowledges that I am the supreme being and begrudgingly agrees to sing the lyrics 'army of pants' instead of 'army of ants' during our next concert, knowing full well it will earn him another sanction from Zander.
He straightens himself up and sit next to me. "What are Beckett and the twins up to tonight," I ask to break the silence that has once again fallen between us.
"Beckett's sleeping, he didn't get back from recording much before you last night and Luca and Rafa are out with their sister who flew in this morning. So it's just us two."
In years gone by we would have revelled in the chance to spend the night in a hotel hanging with each other. Instead these days it seems like a chore in that we have to force ourselves to spend time together.
It's hard to know exactly where it went wrong. I think it was just so gradual that we didn't really notice until recently where it feels like we're at the point of no return. One day we were hanging out every minute the next I'm have one man parties in my hotel room.
I hate it. I really do. I just wish things would go back to the way they were before. Before it all got so complicated and as much as I think our awkwardness is another sign of the times I resolve to make an effort in getting back my best friend.
Standing, I gesture towards the room service menu and the phone which sit on the bench under the wall mounted tv. "Well, you order the pizza. I need to take a piss," I say my voice still deep, but less hoarse than this morning. Jax grunts which I take as an acknowledgement of my instruction.
When I return from the bathroom Jax is pacing back and forth at the foot of the bed placing the order in a hushed whisper. Listening hard I hear him tell the person on the other end my room number and confirms no less than five times that the order is for Ima Butterface and instructs them that when they bring the order they must knock twice and call the name three times.
He hangs up the call and falls onto the end of the bed in a fit of laughter, amused at his own prank. In what could be seen as an unfortunate accident or as instant karma for tormenting the hotel staff he slips off the bed landing square on his butt and on the carpet. A small yelp escaping his lips when he lands with a thud.
"You're an idiot," I tease knocking his hat from his head.
He grins at me proudly cackling and repeating, "Ima Butterface," to the point where he is hyperventilating.
"Yes J, you are," I confirm taking a seat on the bed to wait for the pizza. "You are definitely a butterface."
