Beckett is a whole other story. He is an only child and probably the most mature of the group- he is the one who is always telling us to calm down and behave. When he gets like that we all call him, "Dad," which he absolutely hates. Meanwhile we're always telling him to lighten up and enjoy life.
It takes a while for him to get comfortable with people so he can seem a little standoffish but his heart really is in the right place. He's the only one in the group with a girlfriend too. Tessa and him have been together for a few months now. I've only met her a few times but she seems to have him wrapped around her finger. He's like that with girls though, always got something going on. Truthfully I think he scared of being alone.
I was surprised he moved on to her so quickly after Joanna. Joanna really did a number on him. I used to take English with her and was the one who introduced them a few months before we signed with Zander and Peak Records. Jax and I used to joke that he'd leave the band for her because he was so infatuated with her. I've never been in love with a chick like that so never really understood it.
They were together for almost two years until we discovered she was leaking information to the tabloids. Can you even imagine that? We knew something was up when one evening after a show Zander called a private meeting. He told us that the name of our album had been leaked demanding to know which of us had done it. None of us could understand how since we'd only really decided a few days earlier. We'd sworn ourselves to secrecy and hadn't told anyone outside the band or Zander. That's when Beckett told us he had told Joanna. Truthfully none of us were surprised that he told her, I mean he would have done anything for her.
Eventually everything started to make sense. For weeks, even months before, the media seemed to find out everything about us. From hotels we were staying at to dinner locations, details of some of the minor disagreements between the band and even information about Jax and my late night PIFA sessions, which we're pretty sure is where the Sax thing all started.
There was this one time Luca and Jax got into it because Luca wanted Gus's heater on and Jax didn't. Stuff no one outside our team knew. But somehow it made the media. Still it wasn't until two weeks later when we really knew.
Beckett didn't tell us that he seriously suspected her as the mole and he came up with a secret plan. On one of their late night calls that used to keep us up when we were on the bus, he "let slip" the name of our first song on the new album, 'Army of Ants II'. Only it wasn't really our song. So when it started making headlines it all but confirmed it.
Beckett was heartbroken of course. We struggled to get him out of bed for the first week and then we struggled to get him into bed the following week after some pretty big parties. Then Tessa came along. It was as if order was restored.
With a name like Beckett Wolfe it was as if he was destined for a life in the public eye. His parents made sure of it too. They're the only real 'stage parents' within the group which probably explains Beckett's need to parent us.
He looks like a star too. Tall with blonde hair, parted on the side and sparkling blue eyes. You know the type. He's basically been groomed since he could walk, with singing, dancing and music lessons taking the place of free time. I can't help but laugh thinking about how they must feel seeing their classically trained son rocking out in a rock band.
I look around the room taking in the random conversation before the questioning turns to me again. "Hey Sen, did you see the 'Freedom for Sax' poster in the front row?" Jax asks.
"Couldn't really miss, J. It covered half the row."
Luca smiles. "Aww, look at you two talking about Sax again."
"About time you both made up," Beckett interjects. "You're both painfully moody when you're on your own." He looks towards the other boys for moral support.
I get defensive, "shut up, Beck. We are not! And.... we weren't fighting." I add.
"Maybe not," Rafa says without looking either of us in the eye. "But you haven't been comfortable with each other for awhile. Makes things pretty awkward."
I can feel Jax's arm tensing from the seat next to me. "Well nice of you boys to notice. But we're fine!" he sasses.
I subtly pat him on the knee to calm him. "You know we just realised that we never used to care what people thought about us. Somewhere along the way we forgot that and got lost," I admit not meaning to give that level of honesty. I can tell by their expressions that they are all a little surprised.
Luca is the first to speak, "wow. Okay.... that's was um..."
"Deep?" Rafa adds, finishing Luca's sentence.
"But we get it. People always say that Rafa and I are dating but no one really believes it because we're brothers and that twincest shit just doesn't happen. Butttt I can see how rumours like that would affect you," Luca continues.
"Yeah me too. I'm just happy you guys are friends again. Now I don't have to babysit Jax on his nights out on the town," Beckett laughs.
"Babysit me?" Jax protests. "Up until a few weeks ago who was the one carrying your smashed arse home every night? AND if I recall correctly we have your ex to blame for starting the rumours in the first place?"
I sit up preparing to stand between the two of them as I expect them to come to blows any second but when I look to my right I don't see Jax's jaw tensing instead he is grinning, almost uncontrollably, from over the top of his bottle of Coke.
"Fuck off, J!" Beckett says feigning anger.
I guess these two got close over the last few months. I can't help feeling a little envious of their growing bond. I stand to leave. "And on that note I'm going to bed."
"Want me to tuck you in?" Jax asks, still grinning.
I look back over my shoulder. "As Beckett just said, Fuck off, J!"
