The shadow flew rapidly in her direction and Diane dodged it instinctively. When it dropped to the ground, she finally realized that it was a dress of hers.
It wasnât just the dressâmany of her things including her clothes, her shoes, and her personal belongings were dumped into a pile on the floor by the door, and they kept coming from inside the house.
âSeriously, that Dianeâwhat rotten style she has. All of her clothes are so cheap and ugly; they canât even be used as rags. Were you blind, Norman?â
Stellaâs complaining voice came from inside; Dianeâs hands balled into fists as she stood by her pile of belongings that were being thrown out carelessly.
âStop it, Stella,â said Diane as she rushed inside hurriedly. Stella was in the bedroom, standing before the wardrobe while she cleared out Dianeâs old clothes.
She turned around as soon as she heard Dianeâs voice.
âHey, why are you back? Do you miss your dirty old clothes?â
Stella stroked her belly purposefully and turned to Norman who was standing next to her. She said to him in a whiny voice, âHoney, Iâm tired after being busy the entire morning. Help me over there to sit down; it wouldnât be good to exhaust your son.â
Norman immediately supported her and helped her over to the side. Then, he gave Diane a nasty sideway glance and snapped, âWhy have you returned? Thereâs nothing between us anymore, so why are you still clinging onto me?â
âIâm just here to take my things. Thereâs no need to be so full of yourself, Mr. Adler. Youâre just a moldy bun to me; I donât even want to look at you, much less take a bite. Since youâre disgusting, anyone who wants you can have you.â
As Diane spoke, she cast a glance at Stella who had just taken a seat on the sofa. Stellaâs face puffed up angrily in an instant and she jumped to her feet furiously. With a hand on her belly, she shouted, âWhoâs a moldy bun?
Look, Normanâdid you hear what she said about you?â
Norman was burning with anger as well. Then, he glared at Diane with a frown and added, âYouâre really hopeless, Diane; youâre still the same even after our divorce. Let me tell youâif you donât learn the right way to treat a man like my Stella here, nobody will ever want to be with you.â
âHahaâ¦â Diane let out a cold scoff as she said, âShould I learn how to seduce my best friendâs husband so that I can sleep with him? If thatâs what you mean, Iâm sorryâI donât think Iâd be able to do that.â
âYouâ¦â
Stella was furious and out of breath; she pointed a finger at Diane, but Norman stopped whatever she was about to do as he placed a hand on her arm. âForget it, Stella. Itâs the last time, anyway. Just let her take her things so that she can leave quickly. I donât want to see her here any longer.â
Likewise, Diane wasnât in the mood to talk to them. She side-eyed the couple before she walked up to her wardrobe and pulled out a suitcase from the bottom compartment.
Her belongings werenât exactly priceless, but she couldnât leave them here for those two to trample all over.
After packing up her things, she zipped her suitcase shut and looked toward the couple who were acting like a pair of conjoined twins.
âTodayâs our big day, Normanâitâs the day we finally untie the knot. I wish you both happiness in your marriage;
after all, you guys are rotten to the core. You deserve each other very much.â
Diane stood by the door. As she spoke, a slight smirk crept up her face. Stella couldnât take her taunting and quickly broke away from Norman; she rushed toward Diane and raised her palm to land a fierce slap on Dianeâs face. However, Diane dodged to the side just in time and Stella crashed onto the floor by the door frame after missing her hit.
âBe careful,â said Diane as she chuckled. âYouâd better not lose your child. My ex-mother-in-law isnât easy to please, so if anything happens to that precious grandchild of hers, she wonât go easy on you.â
With that, Diane didnât want to stay there a second longer; she picked up her suitcase and left through the door.
Stella ran after Diane for a few steps as she screamed for her to stop. However, Diane didnât respond or turn around at all; she simply quickened her steps toward the exit of the building.
The sun was warm, but she couldnât feel any of that pleasant temperature on her skin. On the contrary, she felt cold as ice; even the tears in her eyes felt like frost.
It was easy to put on the nonchalant and unruffled attitude of hers, but the hurt she was feeling inside wasnât as simple to mend. In Dianeâs pocket was her divorce certificate, and she carried a suitcase full of her belongings in one hand. She walked along the busy streets as a sudden surge of emotions attacked herâshe felt unbelievably alone and aggrieved. Right now, she truly felt like a stray cat who had nowhere to go.
Just then, the sudden ringing of her phone disrupted her thoughts; she took it out and answered the call.
âWeâre at the Fairview Community Hospital, Dianeâ¦â
