7. The Golden Wolf

Jeremy pov

"Look, both her parents are dead and she was adopted by the third. My brothers and I are very protective of our little sister though so watch it." I growled and then I felt the blood drain from my face. I just told him Maria is my sister!

"Wait, she's your sister?" Alpha Flynn exclaimed.

"Shhhh!" I practically yelled into his face. "She doesn't know that!"

"What?" Flynn shook his head. "How does she not know she's your sister?"

"It was complicated when our mom passed and I thought it was safer for her." I tugged at my hair. Why am I such an idiot? "Just stay away from Maria!"

"Why? I'm her mate! My pack needs a Luna and I need my mate. You know what? I'll see you tomorrow at the party!" He yelled and shifted, letting out a determined howl before running to where his pack was staying.

I sank against a tree and put my head into my hands.

Maria pov

"YOU BUTTFACES HAVE TO LET ME OUT SOON!" I screamed through the white door. "AND WHEN I GET OUT, YOUR BUTTS ARE GOING TO GET A WHOOPING!"

There was nothing but silence on the other side of my door. Those clump nuggets locked me in my room and even though I was a werewolf I wasn't going to jump two stories out my window. I was newly shifted for goodness sake!

I slumped with my back against the door. I hope they didn't forget about me. Everyone else probably left because my yelling was unbearable. I will need food because they don't know about my secret junk stash for when I have monster cramps.

It was starting to get stuffy in my pale blue room so I stood and made my way over to open my window.

As the crisp fresh air wafted into my room I heard the most powerful wolf howl that sent shivers down my spine and turned my knees to jelly. I wanted to meet the wolf who called. As a second nature I leaned out the window and howled in response. I turned back into my room and sighed.

Fantasies of strong muscular wolves danced through my mind. That powerful howl resonated through my mind, continuing on replay over and over.

Soon day had progressed from late day to evening and eventually to night. I hadn't moved and though I heard the cacophony of the pack downstairs, nobody unlocked my door. Sluggishly I pulled on my red plaid flannel pajamas and curled under my comforter, visions of a gold wolf haunting my sleep.

I awoke to the banging and clattering of ladders and hammers. I snuggled deeper into my warm blankets and hugged my knees. My door knob squeaked as someone turned it but, not realizing it was locked, walked into it with a loud thunk. I pressed my pillow over my ear.

"Unlock this door right now Maria!" Gemma's muffled voice carried through my pillow.

"As much as I would love to, I can't," I mumbled. "Under lock and key since the hockey game last night."

"RYDER!" Gemma screamed at the top of her lungs. I grumbled and rolled over before falling back to sleep.

I was rudely awakened next by Gemma jumping on my bed and screaming, "We have to get ready!"

"Why?" I grumbled, "The party isn't until tonight. I'm probably going to skip out and then go for a run. I've been going crazy being locked up."

"You're no fun." Gemma whined.

"Excuse me for wanting to run in my new wolf form." I yawned. "I have to go yell at Matt, Jeremy and Ryder. Excuse me."

I left Gemma on my bed and walked down the hall. I shuffled into Jeremy's office, because where else would they be?

"Do I really have to go to this party?" I asked as Jeremy said, "You don't have to go to the party."

"Good we're on the same page then." I smiled and left the room to go watch a movie.

The party was about to start so I decided to go for a run before Gemma found me and forced me to go. I stripped and shifted in my bedroom and then trotted downstairs in my wolf form with my sundress in my mouth.

I dumped my clothes at the base of a nearby tree and took off running. I was careful to sniff where our boundary lines were this time. I let out a howl of content and the powerful howl responded.
