That doesnât mean Iâm a human being that can be stomped down. The attitude of those who ignored me, the eyes of the people who hated me, the way he spoke to me- Iâve experienced it a lot.
âIf you donât get strong, if you donât get through all this, you canât move forward. Iâm going to live. Alongside my mom.â
Thatâs why I donât want to lose to these kids.
âThen try it.â
âWhat?â
âYou said you could. If youâre so strong, then break the ice. Iâll get out of here. What do you think?â
He really was strange.
Maybe itâs because Iâm in front of children, but I feel like Iâm becoming childish myself.
As if it was nothing, I looked at Lexit provocatively in a way I had never done before.
Lexit, who seemed to be angry, stomped his feet and looked into my eyes.
âTh-Thatâs funny! How could you break it like itâs nothing!â
âBut itâs not, and besides I made a gold chain instead. You said you are very strong, but you donât seem to look like that at all.â
Lexit stared at me, flaring his nostrils.
âWh-What are you talking about? Why would you accuse me of being a liar?â
âItâs not a lie, itâs true. You said you are strong, but you didnât even know the barrier existed.â
âGeez.â
âI guess you really are weak. I hate weak people the most in the world, so stop picking a fight and go back.â
I was worried that my mom would wake up.
They were busy talking to me as if they didnât care at all, but in bed, my mom was mumbling and sleeping.
Or maybe she doesnât even know sheâs alive.
Lexit bit his lips. Perhaps he was thinking that words canât make him win.
âHaha, youâre a fake!â
âYouâre so weak! If Iâm fake, youâre a useless person without power.â
ââ¦â
âIf you do that, arenât you a useless human after all?â
âH-How dare youâ¦!â
âThen just leave. I just want to grow up safely. If you donât want to ruin the Great Dukeâs family, then please stop bothering me.â
As he looked at me, Lexit probably thought about how he couldnât beat me. In the end, he twitched his nose and left.
âSo why was he bothering me?â
Why canât I be left alone when I just want to be protected here?
I felt down for no reason. I was just happy waking up in a comfortable bed, without a single nightmare and not being kicked out.
It was thenâ¦
A bright idea popped up.
âSister, Iâm going out too? Okay?â
His bright, calm blue eyes were staring at me.
I didnât like that look particularly.
I just didnât want anyone to care about me and act nice to me.
âYou never know when theyâre gonna betray you again. They may not even care about me soon after being nice to me. I was right to keep my distance to prevent that from happening.â
I had to before my heart became soft for Allen, who was exceptionally nice to me. Before I open my heart to him.
As always, it was like this for the people who tested me. The wizards who were only nice for a moment only wanted to use my strength.
Thatâs how I made eye contact with Allen.
âI-Iâm going out too, okay?â
âYes, get out, and donât come back. Iâll take care of myself, so donât worry about me anymore.â
Sorrow somehow flashed right in front of Allenâs eyes.
âBut Iâm just worried about youâ¦â
âIâm used to being alone. People donât believe me.â
âOkay.â
Allen was still smiling, even though I outright kicked him out. He stroked my head with his broad, soft hands.
ââ¦Iâll be back soon.â
I tried to say no, but Allen didnât agree. It went right on the dock.
âI said no, but heâs coming again. He really is an idiot.â
He shouldnât have come.
Iâd rather not make him look forward to it.
Iâll just wait again like a puppy waiting for someone else to come.
Stupidly.
âYouâll have to wait knowingly.â
I waited days and days for the words of my mother who died leaving me alone.
Mom, Iâm going to sleep for a minute.
The first time my mother died, I waited for her to open her eyes.
When the knights saw my dead motherâs body and dragged her out in a panic. They believed she would return.
Iâve always waited like a fool.
And I knew that Iâll be waiting for Allen again.
I slammed the door because I didnât want to look stupid, as if Iâm telling him not to come back.
âDonât you ever hang out with that thing again, you idiot! Itâs a shame on the Grand Duke!â
âYou are such an idiot, Lexit! Iâll keep hanging out with my sister.â
âHey, where are you going?â
As expected, I could hear Allen and Lexit fighting outside.
I heard some words, and then I locked the door. Then I ran to my mother.
Mom, who could hear the noises around her, was still sleeping. I whispered to her.
âMom, Mom. When are you going to wake up? I⦠like being alone, but I want Mom to wake up too.â
