Chapter 92 Grace Parrish and Antonio Kaufman had been dating secretly for ten years, and all the servants in the Kaufman residence said Grace was just his plaything.
When Grace heard Antonioâ comment in the private room as he smoked, âGraceâs mom used to work as a maid in our house. Iâm okay with sleeping with her, but Iâll never marry her,â she felt her world destroyed.
She left with tears in her eyes.
Later that very day, she registered her marriage with another man.
Once she calmed down, the following day, she went back to the Kaufman residence, and submitted her resignation to Antonio.
Antonio flipped through the document. He raised his chin and asked, âWhy?â
âIâm married now, and planning to be a fullâtime housewife,â Grace firmly replied.
Antonio chuckled, he didnât believe her. âYou got married? When did that happen? Where was the wedding held?â
The rapidâfire questions plunged the office into a long moment of silence.
Grace replied, âMy husband has a lastâminute trip abroad, so weâll have the official wedding when he returns.â
Antonioâ smile faded over the word âhusband.â âWhatâs his name?â
Grace bit her lower lip.
Despite Devinâs gentlemanly behavior during their marriage registration the day before, the process was rushed, and Grace hadnât asked if he was willing to make it public.
So she chose to remain silent, and Antonio curled his lips, certain that Grace was lying.
Just then, the phone rang, breaking the tension between them.
Antonio pressed the answer button.
When he heard the voice on the other end, his expression immediately softened. âBaby, is that you, Livia? Iâll be right there.â
He quickly stood up and grabbed his coat. Then he passed by Grace. âGo ahead and resign. Just remember the procedure.â
And then he left.
She needed to complete a oneâmonth handover before she could leave her service to the Kaufman family.
She relaxed at this thought. She was so sad and disappointed that Antonio had no feelings for her at all, but the good side was that she only had to endure it for one month.
Graceâs mother Liana Cline had worked for the Kaufman family for decades, and they arranged Graceâs schooling together with Antonio.
She had a secret crush on him for quite some time, but she knew about. the difference in their social status and had never told anyone about her secret.
When Grace was 18, Antonio, drunk and disoriented, stumbled into her room and had a oneânight stand with her.
The next morning, while he fastened the buttons on his shirt, he asked, âYou always blush when you see me. Do you have a crush on me?â
Grasping the blanket tightly, Grace felt a surge of panic wash over her.
Antonio turned around and kissed her cheek. âDo you think I like you?â
She guessed he did.
Over the years, their relationship continued in the same way, with nothing changing much. They had sex almost in every corner of the house, but always in secret.
Antonio surprised Grace with a message the day before everything changed, informing her that he would be taking her to a welcome party and emphasizing that she should dress to impress.
What was most surprising was that, during all this time they had been together, although he spent every night with her, he never took her to such occasions.
So she thought that he intended to make their relationship public. The idea filled her with excitement.
The taxi stopped in the parking lot. She stepped down and heard some familiar voices coming from the sports car next to her.
They were Antonioâ friends.
âAre you really planning on taking Grace to the party? What if others find out about her background?â
âHer mother was a maid. Arenât you worried about what theyâll say?â
Antonio lit a cigarette, replying, âIf Livia can date such a lowâclass man, why canât I bring a woman of lower status to the party?â
Grace could tell that he was mocking her. She froze in place, her lips trembling uncontrollably.
Chapter 92 Antonioâ friends didnât see Grace, so they kept on chatting.
âIf Grace heard you say that, she would be disappointed. Arenât you afraid she might leave you?â
âWith her background, thereâs no way she could find a man richer than me.â
Everyone laughed at Antonioâs words, and that is when she heard him say he was only using her and he would never marry her.
Their laughter was so loud that Grace covered her ears, feeling as if her heart had been torn into pieces, and she ran out of the parking lot.
en she finally could think straight, she found herself back at the Rhufmanâs home.
The servants in the house, feeling sorry for Grace, told her about Antonioâ past with a girl named Livia Fischer.
They had grown up together, but later, Livia went to study abroad.
Antonio couldnât forget her and kept waiting for her return.
Hearing all of that, Grace felt numb.
All those questions that had troubled her for so longâwhy Antonio cried when he was drunkâfound their answers in the name of Livia.
Once Graceâs eyes had dried up, she took out a business card that had the name of Devin Hudson.
Three years before, Graceâs mom, Liana, had saved Devinâs life by pushing him out of the way when a car lost control.
Liana died in that accident, and Devin promised Grace he would marry her, and take care of her for life.
11190 Grace had refused at the time, but now she asked Devin if he was willing to marry her.
Devin agreed without hesitation, and that afternoon, the two registered their marriage.
After dropping Grace off at the Kaufmanâs home, Devin told her that he had some matters to attend to abroad, so the wedding would have to wait until a month later.
Grace agreed, since by that time, she would finally have the ability to leave Antonioâs company.
