CH: 85 This wasn't supposed to happen

(Rosemary POV)

Jamison was getting skilled with his cutting. Every single time I perform an autopsy with him, I just become more and more proud of where his skills are.

I was in the small station area writing the final report on the autopsy as I looked through the window into the morgue to see Jamison; he was sewing the body back together. Something that we do after we perform autopsies.

I turned my attention back to the computer before me; everything about the report I was writing angered me.

I ensured that my report was very detailed, including the bruises on the body. Also, going into details about what was the cause of death, the internal bleeding that was caused by the accident was one of the big reasons behind her death.

Even if an ambulance had rushed to her immediately, they would have had to rush to the hospital and perform surgery for her to be able to make it.

All this woman was trying to do was save herself and her son, only to end up dying the way she did.

Sometimes, life was just not fair to some people.

She is one of those people where your heart pulls, and you feel sad about what happened.

I hope justice will be on her side because she's already suffered enough. She doesn't need any more suffering, and neither does her son.

Yet, the system is something that could be better and needs a lot of work to it.

People in the system must be willing to provide the work to help improve and change the system for the better.

That man felt comfortable using the system to his advantage. He felt comfortable doing what he'd done with the law; why? Things like that bother me because he was allowed to get away with it.

I hate when people get away with things, especially when it's something horrible like this.

I sighed, throwing my head back as I closed my eyes. I took a deep breath and let it out. I had a migraine. I was going to send my report in, stating all my findings and the results from the autopsy.

This isn't an easy battle for this woman's family, as this man will go above and beyond to not end up behind closed doors.

I am also not going to take his threat lightly; the look in his eyes when he threatened me showed me that he didn't give a crap about who I was or about my life.

I didn't know if Jamison noticed, as he had a voice that he wasn't going to take his threats lightly either, but the way that man stared at me and analyzed me as if he was figuring out how to get rid of me.

How to become a monster that could destroy me; it was as if he was thinking of many ways to harm me, to make me feel powerless.

I felt all of that during the small interaction I had with him in the hospital, and I can't imagine how his late wife felt. Every day under the same roof with this man must've been complete hell.

I lowered my head back to stare at the computer screen. I clicked on my keyboard to send in my report.

There's no way this man will not come after me for this.

He's going to, no doubt about it. The thing is, I am not sure if he'll try to go the "legal way" or try to bring harm to me.

"He'll probably do the latter." I said to myself out loud.

I stood up and stretched, hearing my body's cracks as I did so.

I'll have to prepare myself for that.

I left the back office room and walked back into the morgue. My other autopsy technicians were also wrapping up their autopsies. We had eight autopsies today, so it's been a long day. I walked towards where Jamison was; he was done clearing things up and was on his phone. As soon as he noticed me, he smiled.

"Hey, finished the reports?" He asked.

"Yes, all reports are done and sent in," I told him; he nodded.

"Let's leave." He said to me.

"Okay, I'll tell my team I'm leaving and ask if they needed me for anything else." I said as I turned around to walk to them.

I told them I was heading out since there were no more autopsies for the day and had asked them if they needed help, which they didn't.

I have come a long way with this medical examiner facility. Having the staff that I have currently and the amount of equipment I have took a long time, but still, I am glad to have it.

I am glad that I never gave up on my goals.

So, knowing that there are people in my position who use their status that they have, for something not good angers me.

It makes me more than angry; it makes me want to do everything to bring those people down or expose them.

Yet, there's only so much I can do.

"Ready?" I asked Jamison after I was done speaking to my team.

"Yes, let's go home." Jamison said.

My ears perked up from hearing Jamison say that; the sound of the word home brought me so much comfort.

I always cared for my home, I always found it comforting, but I would be lying if I didn't admit that it has brought me more comfort nowadays.

Especially having more people to speak to and more people to care about. I didn't realize that I was growing my own family.

We walked into the garage and got into my car.

We pulled out of the garage parking lot, Jamison looked like he was going to say something but immediately stopped.

"He's following you." A voice came from the back.

I turned around, my eyes widened.

"Your husband?" I asked the ghost of the woman on whom we had just done the autopsy.

"He waited for you until you left the private garage." She said, with a drained face.

"This guy is pissing me off so badly," Jamison said as he sped up.

"Does he think he can just do whatever the fuck he wants and gets away with it." Jamison said.

"It's because he's had. I'm his third wife." The woman said behind us, my eyes widened at her.

"His third wife as in? You're the third woman he's married or you're his third late wife?" I asked her, fearing the answer she would give.

"I'm the third wife that has now ended up dead." She said in a cold tone.

"I don't think the other's deaths were accidents either." She said.

I returned to the road before me; Jamison continued driving and speeding up.

I let her words settle in; I didn't know he was married more than once. Of course, I didn't realize that she was his third wife, that all three are now dead.

"Fucking hell, he probably killed them as well. It doesn't take a genius to realize he likely had a hand in it. Also no disrespect to you or anything, since I am awfully sorry that you're dead and what's happened to you is terrible, really terrible. I also want you to know, that I never blame the victim, but may I be frank?" Jamison asked.

Silence filled the car.

"You may be." The woman said, letting out a sigh.

"Two dead wives, not one but two, and you didn't think that was suspicious? You don't watch Lifetime Movie Network or something?" Jamison said, causing me to hit his arm.

"Jamison." I said in a scowled tone.

"No, it's fine. He was right, it's something others have brought up to me before but I was blind. Trust me, I put blame on myself for that everyday I was alive after marrying him." She said in a sad tone.

"Even so, it's not your fault. None of this is your fault; he needs to pay for his crimes. He has to because I will not let him get away with this." I said out loud, and I was serious.

"So, for you to be in our car right now, trying to warn us or alert us about this, especially with you having to leave your son's presence to be here, means he's planning to do something." I said because that's the truth. There's no way that this woman would leave her son's hospital room to be in our car unless it was something crucial.

"I think he's planning to have you killed, Dr. Lavender." She said.

I took a glance at Jamison's face to find the scariest facial expression I've ever seen on his face.

I sighed, trying to calm down the anger I also had bubbling inside me before I spoke.

"Of course, he'll want me dead; I'm one of the people that will do everything I can to expose him."
