CH: 78 I hate people like you

(Jamison POV)

I'm not too fond of many things in the world; many things bother me, and one thing that will always bother me, no matter what are people who abuse other people. Especially children.

It was obvious to me, and I'm sure the responding officer noticed that too.

That fucking man gave no shit that his wife was dead and his son was injured.

He was looking for something, which was why he was still around the accident scene.

What was he looking for? Did he cause this accident to happen? The anger made its way through my body.

He had something to do with this accident and is looking for something. I don't know what he wants, but we can't let him find it.

Rosemary's team arrived, eager and alert, as they listened to Rosemary's instructions.

They weren't the only ones who arrived either; I noticed agent Rodriguez and agent Brown approaching me.

I greeted them with a nod.

"What's going on, Jamison?" Agent Brown asked, looking around the scene of the accident.

I filled him and agent Rodriguez in with some details, and the responding officer also told his part. He stared at the agents nervously as he did. What surprised me was that agent Rodriguez smiled as if trying to ease the officer.

Look at that; he has a nice side, after all.

"He sounds weird." Agent Rodriguez said.

"He is; he didn't care about his kid at all; he was more focused on the accident scene than the well-being of his child," I said.

Rodriguez shook his head. "Not caring about your kid's well-being but staying at the car accident scene instead is a red flag." He said.

"Weren't you two supposed to be at the hospital where the boy was being taken to?" I asked them.

"We're planning on heading there after leaving here, don't worry. We have another agent there; she's easier with kids than us. They open up to her more." Agent Brown said.

"She will update us until we arrive; we wanted to analyze the car accident scene and see if anything stands out, especially with everything you and officer Nelson mentioned. This guy sounds suspicious." Agent Rodriguez said.

"There were bruises on both of them, the mother and son. It wasn't bruising from the accident. They weren't fresh bruises." Officer Nelson said, a cold tone to his voice.

"With how he was behaving, it wouldn't be a surprise if he were abusive to both his wife and son," I said, already knowing that the prick was but still saying that would help push the agents in the right direction.

"This car model is a perfect family car." Agent Brown said.

"These cars are always called in, not because of any issues but because they are continuously updated with advanced features to live up to their name of perfect family cars." Agent Rodriguez said.

"I was thinking the same thing; it's rare for them to be in accidents like this, especially because she had the latest model," I said, looking at the car.

"I'm sure we're all thinking the same thing." Officer Nelson said.

"Yeah. We're going to go check on the kid; we'll go talk to Rosemary first."

Agent Brown said as he and Agent Rodgeriuz walked towards Rosemary.

"Is there anything else that was strange about him?" I asked Officer Nelson.

"Yeah, he looked familiar. Wait a second." Officer Nelson said, taking it out of his phone and typing.

"Oh wow. Yeah, I knew I recognized him from somewhere." He said, passing his phone to me.

Right on the screen was the man that was there.

"He's a prominent time lawyer, huh?" I said, looking at the information about him.

"Yeah, he's an Elite lawyer, which means he will give us a hard time." Officer Nelson said.

It also means that he thinks he will be able to get away with this with all that he's done.

I looked around to see if I could find the ghost of the woman who had just died, but I couldn't see her anywhere.

Is she at the hospital?

"Officer Nelson, do you have a card? I'm assuming you would like to be involved in the case." I said; his eyes widened, and he nodded, handing me a card.

"Thank you, I will check things with Dr. Lavenders' team. We'll be in touch." I said, nodding a bye and walking away.

I headed towards where Rosemary was with her team.

"How's everything going?" I asked her.

She turned to look at me and sighed.

"This won't be an easy case." She said, going into only a few details.

"Because of who he is? Or because of how she died?" I asked her.

"Both you and I are aware of some things, but we would have to work hard to prove it; we also have to contact the sister. As the husband seemed suspicious, I told the agents to check into the wife's family." Rosemary said.

"Officer Nelson spoke about how he noticed bruises on both the mother and son before they were taken away," I told Rosemary.

"Yes, I figured they would have some bruises on them," Rosemary said.

"Her body is being transported to me. Ready to go? The team is handling everything here." Rosemary said, staring at me with a severe look.

She wants to get straight to it; every wasted moment is precious.

"Yes, let's go. Can we perform an autopsy without the husband's permission?" I asked her as we headed towards the car.

"Yes, I would be able to if I suspect the cause of death to be unclear or suspicious, especially if she has any visible injuries on her that show signs of abuse. He wouldn't be able to stop me from performing an autopsy. Agent Brown and Rodriguez will contact family, which will be the sister she told us about." Rosemary finished saying as we reached the car.

I held the passenger door open for her, letting her get in before I closed the door and made my way to the driver's side.

"Will she be there when we arrive?" I asked.

"Yes, I should probably call home and let them know the update," Rosemary said, taking out her phone.

Home, just her saying that made me feel nice. A place where I wasn't even expecting to stay or be in for long has become a home for me long term.

I drove us as she spoke on the phone, updating the others about what happened.

She ended the call and let out a sigh.

"That man is going to be very difficult." She said after a few seconds.

"Difficult in what way?" I asked her.

"Difficult to take down, especially with the kind of position he has. He's the type of lawyer that works with corrupt politicians." Rosemary said.

"Ah, so it's like he scratches their back, and they scratch his back when he needs them too, huh?" I said.

"Yes, exactly," Rosemary said.

"I'm sorry our date is ending like this." She said softly.

My eyes widened. She had nothing to apologize about. This wasn't her fault.

"Rosemary, there's nothing for you to apologize over; honestly, I had a great time during our date, and I know you did too. Besides, there will be other dates we go on. We're going to have many more dates, right?" I asked her with a smile on my face.

She let out a laugh and nodded.

"Yes, we're going to have many more dates." She said.

"Good. So, this is not the ending we wanted for our date, but we came across this accident for a reason. This woman needs our help, and that's what we're here for, to be voices for people that don't have a voice." I said.

Rosemary didn't say anything but smiled softly at me.

"Who would have thought." She said, causing me to roll my eyes.

"What? Me stating facts?" I said with a smirk on my face.

"I think you've always stated facts." She said, shrugging.

Woah, that took me off guard. I wasn't expecting her to say that.

"When it comes to that bastard, we're at an advantage," I said, pulling into the parking garage.

"That is true; we can talk to the dead." She said.

"Exactly, and we know things he doesn't think anyone else knows," I said, parking the car in Rosemary's parking space.

"Will you be able to work on the body with me?" Rosemary asked.

"Yeah, I'll be alright," I said.

"Okay, just let me know if there is any time during it that you think you wouldn't be able to handle, okay?" She said, with a look of concern on her face.

"Yes, sweetheart, I know," I said, smiling. She shyly looked away, causing me to chuckle.

I exited the car, preparing myself for the case we were about to work on, as I'm sure this case would have me go through a rollercoaster of emotions.

(*Kassandra Speaks*)

I love how understanding Jamison and Rosemary are, not only of each other but of things that happen that interfere with something they have going on.

Book 1 is almost done, yes. as there will be book two and book three of Rosemary and Jamison :) also etc. :)
