CH: 71 He confessed
(Rosemary POV)
How did I let this happen? How did I not think that this would happen?
Of course, these parents would react this way. Why did I think they wouldn't?
"Red and Kendell aren't answering the phone," Jamison said next to me.
"Do you happen to remember if the agents were the ones who brought the parents to my building, or did they drive themselves there?" I asked Jamison. If the agents drove the parents, we would be able to call the agents to see if they were still with the parents. That way, if they were still with the parents, we would be able to have the agents prevent them from doing anything.
I glanced at Jamison as he was quiet and noticed a concerned facial expression.
"What is it?" I asked in a wary tone.
Jamison let out a sigh, and from that moment, I knew what he would tell me wasn't going to help the situation.
"I saw the boy's dads with car keys. So, I think they all came to your lab separately, which means the agents are not with them." Jamison said, and I increased my speed as soon as he finished his sentence.
"Rosemary, be careful with the speed," Jamison said.
"We have to get there quickly," I said, increasing my speed.
"Bambi. Thank you, I want to arrive there alive, not as a ghost." He said, causing my eye to twitch.
"I know you're worried, but the others are there, and they're not going to let anything happen. Okay?" Jamison said. I let out a breath I didn't even know I was holding. Yes, he was right about that. The others were most likely there.
Especially Natalie, Natalie wouldn't let them do something that could take them away from the rest of their family. She wouldn't let them do something that could make Jacob and Jonathan sadder with everything going on.
"Okay, you're right about that. The others wouldn't let anything happen. They would stop them as best as they could." I said, letting myself feel less worried.
"Exactly, besides. The police will be surrounding the place and won't let anything happen to him. We're also almost there anyway. We are like, what? Ten minutes away or something? Especially with the way you've been driving." He said.
I rolled my eyes at what he said and spoke. "We are seven minutes away, and my driving was because of that," I told him sweetly.
He let out a chuckle as we both glanced at each other.
"Oh, trust me. I do not deny that at all." He said, his eyes widened.
"What the fuck." I said as I noticed tons of news reporters, police cars, and black cars that I was sure belonged to agents.
"What the hell is going on?" Jamison said. We were suddenly blocked by police cars parked from letting any vehicles continue to go through.
"Something happened," Jamison said.
"Yeah, something did; come on, let's get out," I said. We both got out of the car, and before the approaching officer could tell us to leave, Agent Brown yelled my name and Jamisons.
"Dr. Lavender. Jamison. He said."
The officer, who I was sure would tell us that we couldn't be here, probably not knowing who we were, then took a step back and let us go through.
"What's happening?" I asked him.
He sighed and pointed to the top of the apartment building.
Jamison and I followed to where he was pointing, and our eyes widened.
"He's been standing there and looks like he's mumbling things." Agent Brown.
Standing on top of the building was the prime suspect, who looked like he would throw himself off the building.
"How did he get up there? Was he up there before you could arrest him, or when he realized you were here for him, he rushed up there?" Jamison asked.
"By the time we got here, ready to barge in his apartment to arrest him. He was already up there. Agent Rodriguez is also trying to talk to him." Agent Brown said.
Natalie appeared in front of Jamison and me. We excused ourselves from Agent Brown and said we needed to talk about something amongst ourselves just for a moment.
When we got further away from Agent Brown, we spoke to Natalie.
"What happened?" I asked her.
Her eyes glanced to the roof of the building and spoke.
"He's sick; while he was packing his things to get ready to leave the apartment, he got distracted and decided to watch a video of what he did to some of the boys," Natalie said angrily.
"He made videos?" Jamison asked lowly.
Natalie nodded her head.
"Yes. and he was getting off on it." She said in a snarl.
"What else happened?" I asked her.
"I threw him off the chair, and he freaked out," Natalie said.
"Started to look around him, not knowing what happened, and then I turned off the video." She said.
I stared at her closely.
"What else?" I asked her.
"I wrote on his laptop that he will pay for what he's done and the children will haunt him forever, that he will never hurt another child again," Natalie said as she stared directly at me.
She was proud of what she did, and I couldn't blame her.
"And what else?" I asked her.
She glanced behind me; I saw Red and Kendell approaching us as I turned around.
"Red, Kendell. Did you guys join Natalie in this as well?" I asked my sister as I saw her rubbing her knuckles.
"Yeah, I beat the shit out of him." She said in a calm tone.
"He was getting off on videos he took of raping those boys, and I wasn't going to stand by and let him enjoy himself. Besides, Natalie needed a little help." She said, shrugging her shoulder.
"Okay, but why is he on the roof?" Jamison asked.
"And where are Jonathan and Jacob's parents?" Jamison asked.
"Right there," Kendell said, pointing them out in the crowd. They were staring at the suspect with so much hatred and disgust.
"He's on the roof because we said he either confesses to the crimes and everything he has done, or we would torture him and haunt his soul forever. That we knew everything he did, all his victim names, where he buried them, how he took them and what he did to them." Red said.
"We even gave him a megaphone to use," Kendell said. I turned my attention to the rooftop and watched the suspect take the megaphone to speak.
"I am a pedophile. I have kidnapped, raped, and killed many boys. The number of boys I have killed is eighty." He said, causing the crowd to gasp.
"These are the boys' names I have killed and where their bodies are." He said, naming the boys in order and where their bodies were buried.
The crowd stood silent.
"Fuck." Jamison said as he continued to name more.
"Is he still going to throw himself off the building?" I asked my sister.
"I don't think he will. He was also told that the boys were waiting for him to die. So, I think he's trying to keep himself alive." She said softly.
My stare moved from hers to the parents of Jacob and Jonathan, who were in tears.
"Did you know that the parents were going to try to get to him?" I asked her.
"Yes, I imagine they would. What parent or loved one would not try to go after the person who hurt or killed their loved one if given a chance." Red said, staring at me.
I let her eyes speak for themselves of what she was trying to say. I nodded and turned my attention to look back at the suspect.
"The boys, Jacob and Jonathan, have encountered new abilities," I said.
"Hmm, I think everyone in our group has or is going to. It looks like you have a lot to do, sister." Red said.
He finally got down to Jacob and Jonathan's names. I turned my attention to the boys' parents and watched them break down in more tears.
"Who's video was he watching?" I asked Natalie, Kendell, and Red.
They stayed silent for a minute, but Kendell spoke lowly.
"Jacobs and Jonathans." He said.
Jamison let out an angry noise next to me.
"We keep this to ourselves. Don't let the boys know this, okay?" I said to them.
"Of course." They all said.
I watched as Agent Rodriguez arrested him.
"At least he was caught." I heard someone say from the crowd.
"All those boys' lives he took and the things he did to them. What a fucking monster." Someone else said.
"He helped us look for the boys, and he was the one who took them. I'm going to throw up." Someone else said in the crowd.
"Oh God, the poor parents. They didn't live far from him and took his help. If only they knew." Another person in the crowd said.
"Their voices are getting too loud," Red growled, annoyed.
"What do you think will happen to the parents?" Kendell asked me.
I glanced at the boy's parents and turned my attention to Kendell. He was staring at me with a soft expression.
"When it comes to Jonathan's parents, they will probably be depressed for a while; maybe even for the rest of their lives at the thought of losing their son, they will be overprotective of their daughter. They would likely move from the apartment building and go somewhere far away from this town." I said in an honest voice.
"When it comes to Jacob's parents, it will be even more challenging for them. Jacob was their only kid; they might not be able to be with each other, and they might get a divorce and blame themselves for what happened. This can happen if they fight against it. Suppose they're not strong enough against the paint that will come." I said to Kendell.
"Jacob and Jonathan wanted me to tell them something on their behalf," Kendell said.
"I see. What is that?" I asked him.
"Something they just wanted me to tell them, and then after I tell them. I can tell you." Kendell said.
I let out a sigh.
"Is it something that will have the parents hooked to us as a group?" I asked Kendell.
He didn't answer.
"Jacob and Jonathan wanted me to tell them they crossed over," Kendell said.
"But they didn't," I said.
My eyes widened.
"Oh, they want to give their parents closure after telling them," I said, and he nodded.
"Go ahead and tell them," I said.
I watched as Kendell's eyes widened, as he wasn't expecting me to give him the okay.
He rushed towards the boy's parents and spoke to them. I stared at the interaction, and gasp came from the parents' mouths. I watched as the mothers fell to their knees and the dads continued to cry.
Kendell said something to them to cause all four to nod their heads.
"It's good to give them closure," Jamison said next to me.
"Yeah, it's good to give them closer," I said as Kendell approached us, the parents stared at me and mouthed thank you as they continued to cry.
I nodded, not understanding why they thanked me and turned around.
"Let's go, guys. Our work here is finished. Natalie, we'll have to talk to the boys when we get back. You can reach out to the girls. Hailey, Macy, and Marsha. Something tells me they're up to something, as they're not here."
(*Kassandra Speaks*)
