CH. 40 This is heartbreaking
(Jamison POV)
It comes to find out that Rosemary decided not only having one body identified by a loved one but Haileys, Marsha and Macy's deceased bodies as well.
She told them before we left, and they wanted to come with us. I know Rosemary hesitated with letting them go with us because it was going to be a horrible experience for them.
Of course, they still wanted to go, especially when it came to seeing their family again.
I wouldn't blame them for wanting to come.
These were their love ones, and they wanted to see them again, even though they couldn't be there for them physically, at least in the spirit they could be.
Literally.
We were here, entering the morgue part of Rosemary's lab.
The only ones who will be visible to the others are Rosemary, me, and her sister Red.
Hailey, Marsha, and Macy can't be seen, Red couldn't see them yet either, but she was able to sense them.
"Put these on; they're in the waiting area with the husband. I'll go get them." Rosemary said, giving us lab coats, gloves, and mask.
She left the morgue.
"This isn't going to be easy," Red said, putting on the things Rosemary gave us.
"Yeah, it won't be," I said doing the same,
Hailey and Macy both sighed with sad looks on their faces as they look at the doors Rosemary walked out of
Marsha continued looking at the door and around the morgue.
She realizes that this was where everyone body that was found was; it was most likely affecting her.
"I don't happen to find myself in these situations as much; I usually get there before," Red said.
My interest held with what she said, what did she mean when she said that?
The doors opened up, which caused me to drop it and I took a note of it, to ask her about it later.
Rosemary looked at me and the others, giving us a look I couldn't understand until my breath hitch.
The husband was following in with the two agents, but they weren't alone.
Natalie Musco was there as well, her attention was on her husband, and she must have felt us staring at her.
Hailey, Macy, and my eyes didn't move from her.
Natalie's eyes shift to us, and her eyes widened.
"Hailey & Macy." She said in a soft voice.
As if she couldn't believe it.
She looked at me, Red & Rosemary.
"Can they see me?" She asked Hailey, Marsha & Macy.
They nodded their heads.
"Tell my husband I'm with him," Natalie asked, appearing in front of me.
I took a step back; I didn't see her coming.
I blinked, and she was right in front of me.
I saw Rosemary looked at me; her attention turned back to the cube freezer.
"It's difficult to do that," Hailey said.
"Your husband is very vulnerable right now, people telling him that they can see you and talk to you right after he's about to view your dead body wouldn't be the right thing to do," Macy said.
"He's not ready for that yet," Marsha said
Natalie's eyes widened, and he looked like she was going to say something else until a loud sob was heard.
It was Natalie's husband.
"Baby." He said sobbing as he looked at his deceased wife's body.
Natalie stilled and flashed to her husband's side.
"My sweet Natalie." Her husband said, crying.
He fell to his knees, and my heart clenched as he continued sobbing.
I watched Natalie's face crumbled.
I watched her fall beside her husband and cried as well.
"Who fucking did this to her! You all need to find out who did this to my wife." He yelled.
The agents didn't know whether to comfort the man or give him his space.
"We'll find him," Rosemary said, causing the agent's eyes to widen.
She just promised someone that they would find the murderer.
This was something I'm sure the agents couldn't promise to do, but here Rosemary was.
She turned to look at Natalie, who was sitting next to her husband on the floor.
"We'll find the sociopath, You have my word. Your wife was a fighter. She was strong and was able to gather evidence that we wouldn't have without her." Rosemary said.
"Natalie would have never gone out without a fight." He said, wiping his tears away.
"Our son keeps saying he sees her." He said, standing up.
My eyes widened.
"He keeps telling me that mommy's still here and our daughter is starting to join in. This is affecting my children; it's affecting all of us." He said.
"When- when will I be able to lay her to rest." He asked, looking at Rosemary.
Rosemary's gaze shifted to Natalie.
"I'm sorry, your wife is one of the ones who can help us find the killer," Rosemary said.
The husband sniffed.
"So, what you're saying is. I won't be able to have a funeral for my wife until he's found?" He asked.
Rosemary was going to respond, but Natalie cut him off.
"Please, let him have the funeral. I'll help you; I want him found. You don't need my body when I am right here, and I can help you." Natalie said.
"I understand, sir, I'll gather as much evidence as I can so you can have the funeral. I am sorry for your loss." Rosemary said.
"Just please find him." He said.
Rosemary looked at the agents and spoke.
"We will." She said.
He sighed.
"I want to be with my kids." He said.
"Would you be able to make her, not look like this for the funeral?" He said, hesitating on what words to use.
"I can bring her favorite dress and her favorite hair products that can be used to do her hair." He said he looked at Rosemary.
"I can do that." She said. He nodded his head, turned to look at the agents.
One of the agents took Natalie, husband, out the morgue, and the other agent, Agent Flirt, turned to stare at Rosemary with wide eyes.
"Rosemary, did you just promise a dead victim family member that we will find the person behind this?" He asked.
Rosemary pushed the body tray back inside the freezer cube and closed the door.
"Yes." She said.
"Why, why would you do that?" He asked her.
"Because we will. This sociopath will not stop killing these women or torturing them until he's found." Rosemary said.
"I know that, but you can't keep promises like that. What if you can't find him. Did you think about that? You promised him you would, what if you can't keep that promise?" He asked her.
"I'll keep it," Rosemary said, turning around. She was dismissing him.
"Rosemary, you're a Medical Examiner. Not an agent." He said to her.
I felt myself getting mad and was going to go over there and tell him off. Red raised her hand in front of me and stopped me.
"You're right, I am a Medical Examiner, and I'm a great one at that, I don't make promises I can't keep. If I said it, then I meant it. Yes, you're an agent, and you will do your job, I will assist you with that job. Also, you're right again about me being a Medical Examiner and you an agent, so use my Title. It's Dr. Lavender to you." She said to him.
His eyes widened, and he took a step back.
This must have been their first argument.
"Okay, Dr. Lavender, but if we can't find the sociopath. It's on you because I'm not going to be the one who tells a widow that we failed him when one of us promised not to." Agent Flirt said, walking away and leaving the morgue.
I watched Rosemary turned to look at Natalie.
"We promised your husband, Natalie." She said Natalie stood up with a determined look on her face.
I stared at Natalie, sensing the strong aura around her.
She's still a fighter, and there was no way she was going to let anyone down.
"Let's end it then; he's going to get caught today or tomorrow because I'm not letting him kill the others like he's already done," Natalie said, looking at the girls.
"We are with you," I said.
She stared at me and nodded.
This freak needed to be found because seeing how Natalie's husband reacted torn me, the fact that Marsha, Macy & Hailey's family were going to come next was something else I had to prepare myself for.
I care for Macy & Hailey, even though I just met Marsha, she's Macy's sister.
So the fact that their families will be here soon to identify their bodies is something that will not only take a toll on their families but them as well.
Seeing the people you've come to care for hurt and in pain, knowing that you're unable to take their pain away is the worse.
The only thing we can do is find this coward sociopath; no one else needs to die.
